She was not flat. I believe you do not know how to distinguish notes through listening. Go to music school first before going too technical with your comment please.
I've always noticed that when Carrie sings songs to pay tribute to those who originally sang them, she just sings it as it should be performed and still give a beautiful auditory experience without much alteration to the arrangment of the song. :)
This young woman embodies an absolutely beautiful voice in no matter what genera of music she sings. We are all privileged to be able to experience her voice as it matures and gives us gifts beyond what one may have expected when she first took the stage on American Idol. We can al be thankful for the beauty she brings to our lives.
Absolutely a beautiful and restrained performance. Carrie pays tribute to Julie Andrews and a lovely and breathtaking way. I'm so glad that she didn't over-embellish as so many artists do. It was such a pure vocal. Delightful!
Woah, this is the first time i saw this, and i never imagined Carrie would sing this so well! and the high notes were lighter and more tender than her usual belts. I loved this :)
@LingLingRox That was completely respect for Julie Andrew and her performance in the movie. Plus as Carrie said she used to all the time growing, because her mother, Carole likes this song so much.
i think... her voice doesn't fit the song... though she's a good singer... i don't think she sang the song right. i'd rather hear lea salonga sing the sound of music co'z i believe it fits her... after all julie andrews loves her voice. they should have ask julie andrews in the first place since she knows who can sing that song beautifully.
@3rdStrikeWalty , Carrie wasn't trying to top Julie Andrews, she too much respect for her. She was asked to do this special and I think she did quite well, considering Julie was in the audience and after she said did an excellent job.
@row759 Yeah to tell you the truth, I think Carrie is the modern country version of Julie :-). Carrie's a great role model. She's clean, and nice, and most her songs people can relate to. But I think she should stick to country, her voice was straining to get those high notes before she went falsetto.
@3rdStrikeWalty , Carrie said the reason, she does this song so well. Her mother, Carole loves this song, so when Carrie was young, she would sing it all the time for her mother. So, do it now, is so easy for her. If she wanted to do songs like this, she would have no problem. But, she loves country so much, that's why she does country music. She doesn't have to, she wants to.
@3rdStrikeWalty carrie was actually quite sick and had throat congestion. that's why when she went higher -it became more visible and you can hear the strain on the vocal chords.
Julie Andrews and Carrie Underwood are my two absolute favorite singers of all time! its so great to see a video of them tied together like this. just PERFECT! and i like how she made it her own. she didnt try to sing it just like julie like most people do. no one can pull off the julie version except julie. she let julie's version be JUST julie's version and made her own kind of "carrie version" it was great. (:
I love at the end when Tony Bennett looks like he is just mezmerized by her! Carrie should be very proud of herself, that is a huge compliment to get that type of approval from someone like Tony Bennett!
This performance just shows the amount of talent Carrie has. She is the best vocalist of her time, not many country singers can pull off singing out of thier genre but Carrie has an amazing voice and can do it .
@luvmusic1055 , Carrie said to be honest, this song is actually is for her to perform, her mother likes this so much song that at home, Carrie did almost every week. She said she was just a little nervous performing in front of Julie Andrews, who gave a nod of approval at the end.
you can tell that she has a bit of sinus but it was really good, especially the music part where she literally sang it hip-hop/r&b style. i just loved that. but i have to say that i enjoy the original better.
I disagree with spaciousgalaxy. Carrie works with the sound of music. And I believe I heard Julie Andrews was pleased with Carrie performing that song. She did her way. Which she should do it.
I'm a Carrie Underwood fan, and I honestly like her voice in just about every other song, but I personally don't think her voice fits with the Sound of Music. The style is too different.
to spaciousgalaxy, I take you then disagree with Julie Andrews, to her quote, and I will tried to get this right. She said, "Carrie's vocals fit this song perfectly, Julie said she couldn't do much better than that. I just can't find where she made that comment or I would direct you to it.
Great jo by a great singer Carrie is a first class lady.

If you think that most covers celebrities do are lame, maybe you should just shut up & go listen to the originals if they bother you that much.
