  • Gish is the best album of the smashing pumpkins in my opinion

  • Is it just me or Radiohead stole this riff 2:19 from them?

  • @rockomundo It's just you.

  • @honeybataco OK then.

  • @rockomundo eh, fuck Radiohead. Used to love 'em, but then I heard Muse.

  • @Nintendorks12345 LOL Muse is like Radiohead Lite.

  • @TheUltraDude That's really something to call anything "Radiohead Lite".

  • 3:30 to 3:40 is literally the hand of God. No mortal can play that with such precision and control. Gish is stupid good.

  • Master Chamberlin... =) love the bridge!!

  • one of my all time favorite songs!!!!!

  • At 2:28 the band explodes on to the music scene...G...

  • Amazing song, amazing album. And the bass intro......fantastic.

  • If you play this backwards (And optionally speed it up) The psychedelic noise at the end of the song is actually a song in itself.

  • I have seen them live twice in two venues that couldn't be more dissimilar: once in a community college gym right before Siamese Dream came out, and then again at Lollapalooza a couple of years later at an outdoor arena. They were amazing in the gym, gotta say. It was before Corgan's ego asploded and killed the band...anyway, Darcy couldn't play worth a crap, which was a bummer. At the gym venue he actually got royally pissed off and made her leave the stage. I miss early Pumpkins.

  • @britlitgal id love to hear the end "backwards" but how the hell do u do that?

  • @britlitgal wow, why did Billy get angry at Darcy? I know what you mean about the go thing.

  • love it

  • where's the douche who disliked this?

  • classic "120 minutes" material!!!!!

  • the bootlegs of this song are much better

  • I love all the comments about this album...they mean nothing...just listen and shut up.

  • Goosebumps at 3:38

  • The solo in this is fucking amazing. Probably my favorite Pumpkins song.

  • I´ve seen them on their European Tour 1991 or 1992!!!Amazing!!!

  • how to make that sound at 0:01?

  • Corgan is the quintessential "alternative" rock guitarist

  • Underrated album, wayyyyyyy underrated band. Amazing!

  • 0 DISLIKES FTW

  • @ZASSproductions Well.... Here it is , two weeks later and unfortunately A single dislike has appeared. The person who put it on here probably doesn't like anything so I feel that it doesn't count.... Still zero dis's in my book..

  • damn, great album and they dont play a single song of it at their present concerts?wat a crap!

  • @faridjabba i like the first album the best

  • @faridjabba What you are full of it look up look up Tristessa Live, Siva Live, and any of these songs live and you will see Billy, Jimmy, Ginger, Jeff, and Lisa playing these songs live. Get your facts straight.

  • This is where music is at.

  • fukin A

  • Dude seriously this song kicks panda nuts!

  • Comment removed

  • I don't know, but this band so lost it's way, and it's original sound after gish...my personal opinion. This is my all time fav with this band, the entire album

  • 4:22.....do any of you guitar guys out there know how Corgan created that effect?

  • @thetheRedundant With a lot of phasar and echo and some reverb.

  • @thetheRedundant

Probably a lessened main volume, brushing of the strings, reverb and a string effect with a lot of tweaking, would be my guess.

  • @thetheRedundant It's a basic reverse effect. So two solutions : first he used a reverse pedal effect, or they reversed the tape of the song in post-production.

But I'm quite sure a simple reverse pedal or multi effect for guitar can do this for sure.

  • Im back in High school, cruzin my mustang and blasting this whole fuckin album and screaming at the top of my lungs!! God Id loved this shit.

    SMASHING PUMPKINS FO EVA

    HRD

  • one of the best breakdowns in music ever starts @ 3:04. The entire outro of this song is legendary. When the hell is the last time you heard a song on the radio with an outro that wasnt the chorus repeated and fade out??

  • @virtuzoso Good point.

  • one of the best breakdowns in music ever starts @ 3:04. The entire outro of this song is legendary. When the hell is the last time you heard a song on the radio with an outro that wasnt the chorus repeated and fade out??

  • @virtuzoso MAYBE......... just maybe,, the last time I heard anything close to that outro was on a Classic Rock station, the band of whom could have played the song I do not recall, But one of the select fewer than many. My point being : You do not hear such greatness as this song on the radio today. Perhaps the stations are fearful of elevating their status beyond mediocre..

  • my youth, fukkin epic. cunts need to give this album props........... it fukkin was of a time........shred it.

  • "Revolution" might for some people mean "move out of my mother's basement".

  • @NameCallingIsWeak One of the greatest quotes I have ever come across.

  • how the fuck is the kill by 30 seconds to mars related to this?

  • @Krakle cos part of the chorus to that song is 'Come break me down, bury me, bury me." So that's probably why youtube thought they were related

  • Very underrated album!

  • this album is very soothing for the soul. lol.

  • Billy is almost like hendricks on the guitar. But better!!!! Billy knew when to say WHEN!!!

  • Billy is Billy, no one sings like billy..... and we love em for it. Not to mention the guitar weaving and the appropriate solos that billy does. Pumpkins rock!!!

  • this song its awesome billy were the best back then

i post just sopeople like it

  • the problem is confoming album weres coming out billy drasticly chage his music atyle its seems that each album descreas the guitar solos and riff heavisnes and acustic beautifullness but siames still awesome

  • dudes this was recorded at smart studios where in 1990 nirvana was recording what would have been nevermind if they didn't switch labels this was butch vig's studio

  • Saw the Pumpkins live for the 1st time at a local club in South Beach called Washington Square in 1990 something. Club was about 800 sq ft. Packed!! Bartenders sprayed cool water on us as we moshed (everyone in the club was moshing). I had my hands all over this cute blonde from out of town (I think) and I stold Darcys Heineken bottle from stage. Still remember the look Darcy gave me as I walked away with her drink. Sorry! LOL

  • I simply cannot describe how awesome it is if you turn it up from 3:02 to 4:10

  • @jumparound49 yes yes. took the words outta my mouth. probably my favorite part of any SP song off of all of their albums. great riff. gets me off everytime, never gets old

  • this sounds like i an 1

  • 2:02 to 2:28 now that's how you play guitar !!!!

  • Jimmy's drumming is borderline orgasmic.

  • this solo is go! another good one is from the black dahlia murder, listen to the song called "im charming", about 2:35 is when your ears melt in pure hell yesness. do it, listen, you wont regret.

  • one of the top 10 alt guitar records of all time.

  • How the fuck does this sound like On a Plain

  • He once said in an interview he knows he can't sing but he loves it and he tries his best to .

  • ha I saw them here in LA at the Palladium and it was madness when this album came out. Nothing compares to the first

  • Holy shit!!!! Can't believe I ignored this album, its gotta be one of the greatest albums ever made. This song has one of the greatest solo's I've ever heard...

  • Rocked out to this before cherub rock and liked the guitar but cr has originality that wasnt in gish.

  • It's was their first album dude, please if you havn't listen to mellon collie and the infinite saddness album do it!!!!!

  • THIS made start playing drums... n it was my 1st song ever learnt.

All these years, and it still gives me goosebumps!

  • This song makes me wish I had learn to play the drums.

    Classic Jimmy - 2:20 to 2:28

  • ohh yes they have to make another Gish I love this song and now I'm with my bass trying to playy it

    la amoo too el ratooo

  • ok...

    Next: Sonic Youth :D

  • i ADORE this song!!! i play that part with james over and over and over and over . god this is probably my favourite song off of Gish

  • The smashing pumpkins need to make another gish

  • started listening to gish again and i forgot how awesome this song is!! one of their best!!!!! guitar solo is incredible!!

  • I love this song!! I love this album!!! I love Pumpkins!!!!!!

  • the solo at the 3:03 is completely awesome!!!.. wow!! one of the best i´ve ever heard.. in my opinion.. ;)

  • the beginning sounds like "on a plain" by Nirvana.

the two best bands of the 90's in my opinion.

    :)

  • I believe gish was released before nevermind (if it was from nevermind) gish came out a bit earlier than nirvana's nevermind if it's not from nevermind or from in utero or something that came way after so in that case you would mean

On a plain by nirvana sounds like bury me .

  • Wait....what?

  • @crackythewondertroll your fucking retarded u dont have any taste fuck sonic youth sp beats them by twenty miles....and btw who doesnt love cassettes of sp and all the yellowcard 90's bands etc??? awesome stuff like a "blast from the past" lolz

  • @peanutboy2pro Sonic Youth are DAMN good, he wasn't comparing them.

  • This is sort of like shoegaze, but with more of a hard rock feel to it. Just the way billy likes it.

  • it's funny that someone would call them shoegaze, since gazing at their shoes is anything but what they do on stage.

  • That riff that starts at 1:15 is awesome !!

  • lol doesnt happen

  • I agree with that,

    and one of the smartest.

  • Billy Corgan is one of, if not, the most underrated musicians ever

  • @vinsanity0150 youre dam right :s

i think nirvana has some fault

  • @vinsanity0150 Billy Corgan is the best and underrated guitarist of the 90's. He's very unique

  • @vinsanity0150 u cant be underrated if u used to sell out stadiums...

  • @vinsanity0150 no hes not hes pretty widely known

  • One of the greatest guitar solos in the last 20 years is toward the end of this song. How Billy could play that and sing at the same time is just absolutely mind blowing. Long live the Pumpkins despite their issues.

  • Then why for feck's sake are you watching and listening to Smashing Pumpkins then looksdirty?

Seems pointless to me, if all you want to do is bitch and moan and talk about yourself.

Nobody cares about you, so get over it!

    ;)

  • This kind of music isn't about "sweet singing". And trust me when I say that many artists and musicians can't sing - but they can still make great music and lyrics with emotion. For me, Billy Corgan sings and writes music like a God - or at least he did

  • I love billys voice! and im not on drugs.

  • no man, billy HAS an epic voice, you didn't have to search for someone who can sing counter tenor, if you don't belive me dave gahan and scott weiland (early voice) are to perfect examples of great baritone singers

  • All those people who claim Billy Corgan can't sing should watch this video than directly afterwards shut the hell up.

  • They still won't get the point since they think Billy has a repulsive voice

    ...

I don't even want to know what they deem as a *beatiful* voice... maybe they're into the jonas brothers or something >:(

  • @flipingsweet779 agreed he can sing thats for sure, but however, people like eddy vedder and layne staley and chris cornell and phil anselmo and maynard james keenan, and the list goes on can sing much much better

  • @flipingsweet779

Billy corgan has two voices. One soothing and one shrill and annoying.

    Both are just fine.

  • the correct lyrics are on spfc

  • Billy played bass too

  • i just had a corgasam

  • haha i like it! :)

  • Eventhough Im Not A Real Fan Of The Smashing Pumpkins I Say That They Are A Good Band And I Resect them

  • what the hell does resect mean?

  • respect

  • "bury me love"

  • Reminds me of JA, to an extent.

  • Gee whiz............Bury me!

  • Overall, this is the hardest song on gish

  • Comment removed

  • that's awesome lol.

  • Best band ever, amazing song... fuck!

  • well, actually it goes "chain, unchain"....still repeated by James.

  • This song is not about Jane's Addiction. The lyric actually goes, "Unchain repeated by James while Billy sings. And they sound nothing like Jane's Addiction. Jimmy Chamberlin and Stephen Perkins are very different drummers. Billy and Dave are diffrent, not to mention that James does most of the solos. Billy and James switch and even the lyrics are different from anything Perry ever wrote. But I wouldn't doubt it if they played on the same stage one night. That would've been a badass show.

  • James did not do most of the solo's. He only did the rythem guitar for the entire song, they only switch up in the bridge but no solo's or main guitar, thats all BIlly.

  • umm, wrong . billy does most of the solos , yah noob . watch there live videos. billy is the most under rated guitar player besides Jack Whatie and J mascis.

  • Sound of heave 4:19 onwards

also, is this song about Jane's Addiction?

Because around this time Smashing Pumpkins were associated as being a rip-off of Jane's Addiction, and the lines "bury me" and "Jane unchain my chain" would make a lot of sense

  • Wow, I'm I didn't relize that these guys sounded like "Rush"... I'm hearing it around 3:40 on the song "Bury Me"...

  • Hello friends. I talked to the man himself and he informed me the real lyrics past 3:01 are as follows: "GEE WHIZ, BURY ME"

  • What?? I Don't hear the similarity either to Walk Away' Hmm.. What are U a musician Owrkeeng??

  • lol its as if in 1991 all the gud ones just popped up outta nowhere, nirvana smashin pumpkins.....and.....................other....

  • Greatest guitar solo of all time. Period. No debating. You know it is!

  • one of the greatest i agree - pretty insane

  • Wow. Just wow.

  • one of the greatest they have

  • I can't Believe this magic was made in 91 , These guys r already legends and how they cant be recignized by some ppl blows my mind...not near enough credit...All stupid pop fag bands who sing and make me wanna punch my radio..why cant we all file a class action lawsuit for noise polution, ppl have sewed for dumber $h!T And Gish was SOLID

  • Jane unchain my chainnn

  • smashing pumpkins own all. Billy C is my IDOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The melodic structure in the second half of this song is absolutely incredible, almost like a prelude to "todays'" unforgettable riff- simple but complex (if you're a musician) you'll understand me.

  • totally get it, also you dont get distorted riffs like that in a major key very often- very unique sounding

  • I like you, kid. Very observant!

  • Hey kid, look me up. I would like to produce you. I will inform my secretary about you. You want in? You're in! No bullshit, buddy! I'm very secretive but if you impress my "gate keeper" I will ensure you a life of total success.....

  • haha, sounds like something out of a movie, thanks though, and who would you be anyway?

  • Sick song

  • Jimmy Chamberlin is a beast. :)

  • The guitar in here rocks!

  • love the ending of that song, awesome from 3:00 on

  • exactly!!!

    dude try Psychedelic (demo 1989)

    you'll be blown.

  • Err: *Psychodelic

  • Uh it's a total rip off of Walk Away by James Gang/Joe Walsh. Sorry but it's really a bad song.

  • OwrKeeng, I just heard it and can't notice the similarity except for the "taking my time" quote at the beginning lol

    try marquis in spades.

  • the lyrics were a rip off i felt and turned me off the song

marquis in spades rules. i love most sp stuff

  • hellyeah

  • I thnk the lyric is "bury me in love" not"were in love".

  • your right

  • smashing pumpkins fucking rock!

  • fucking great post, nice one. top tune. cheers geezer!!

  • that bit around 2:06 is so shocking

  • this shit is tough

  • one of my favorites evar...

  • love this song
