  • @awesomekoolaid1 No choice in the matter with the elephants at the Philly Zoo. Every move was controlled by keepers wielding bullhooks, except for the brief periods when they were allowed to stand around in their 1/4 acre barren yard. Sadly, Kallie and Bette are still confined in small pens and dominated by keepers at their current quarters - the breeding/holding facility operated by the Pittsburgh Zoo in Somerset PA.

  • It is not keeper laziness that is the reason the rhino and okapi were inside. I don't think the keepers at the zoo are bad at all. I think there mat have been medical check-ups or procedures taking place, or the animals may have been sick. Don't blame it on keeper laziness.

  • @animalsrule1231 It's true that sometimes the animas undergo medical treatment or are sick. But it's not ever true that all of those animals are undergoing medical treatment or all of those animals are sick all at the same time. And that is what would need to happen for all of those animals that day to be inside. And it happened many, many times.

  • Perhaps it was because the animals were undergoing a medical procedure or check-up, or maybe sick from the terrible facilities.

Again, thank you for sharing the video. I do not like the Philadelphia Zoo.

  • @ThePowerofElephants We visited the zoo daily during some weeks and the elephants were often not outside - at all. They were not undergoing medical procedures. If they were sick, getting a chance for some fresh air would not make them sicker.

  • @rowanmorrison I wouldn't call it keeper laziness (although I think the facilities and quality of life was terrible for the Philadelphia Zoo animals). I do think that the keepers were OK...but the exhibits, lifestyle, quality of life...terrible..

  • @rowanmorrison I think the zookeepers could have been punishing the elephants for not complying to their commands.

This is wrong, as elephants are wild animals who shouldn't be dominated or forced to do anything. They shouldn't be commanded.

  • Thank you for sharing this video. I believe the Philadelphia Zoo elephants lived a sad life at the Zoo.

I agree that the Philadelphia Zoo's animals are living in terrible conditions. I do not like zoos or the fact that the animals are being displayed. But I wouldn't call the reason for the animals not being outside keeper laziness. Although the Zoo conditions and lives of the animals are sad, the keepers do love the animals.

I don't think it was keeper laziness.

  • Mixing hay with their dung is appropriate for baby elephants, as it aids digestion. However, it certainly isn't appropriate for adult elephants, such as Kallie and Bette.

  • The Philadelphia Zoo elephants had sad, boring lives in an inadequate facility. Elephants are wild animals, and therefore training methods zookeepers used, such as dominating them, will not work. I hope Kallie and Bette move to PAWS or the Tennessee Elephant Sanctuary.

  • The poor animals! I still feel bad for them. The elephant on the right, Bette, is showing neurotic behavior. This behavior shows that she is frustrated, bored, and maybe a bit sad. There are no toys, like the Zoo claims the elephants always have. rowanmorrison, thank you for posting this video.

  • itsbetter than any other zoo

  • Where are you from, SwiftFire - Russia?

  • I'm from Philadelphia
