Webcams sell for less than $50. Many digital photo cameras also happen to be able to shoot video. Those are possible starting points.

Three months ago I bought a Canon HF10, thinking YT might go to HD widescreen 16:9 in a few years. The HF10 can only shoot 16:9.

The editor I use has a few options for adapting 16:9 to YT's old 4:3 proportions. I tried a couple but then found YT could handle 16:9 files, letterbox on its own, so I started uploading 16:9 files.

Lo and behold, when YT goes to 16:9, the letterbox disappears on the 16:9 files I've already uploaded.

Hiko also has an HF10, btw.
