Modern Albanian derives from early medieval Arvanitika, which has been yet another Graeco-Roman dialect. Ancient Illyrian Greeks were speaking another Greek dialect. Northern Illyrians were speaking mixed Celtic-Roman dialects, prior to Roman Conquest. Ever since Roman Conquest though, they 've adopted Latin formes and also language. Yet, Southern or Real Illyrians were initially Greek-speakers, ever since antiquity. The mixture of the two produces Arvanitika. Only this view is an academic one.
