  • YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I clocked it at MM 1/4=275. Not too shabby.

  • Right! I'm off to do some soprano practice! Haha!

  • omg, david liebman and wayne shorter can really play soprano saxophone...just amazing..other than 9:07 (which made my ears bleed, btw) sounding like a couple of girls screaming their heads off, or a couple guys getting their balls chopped off , this is one hell of a tribute to coltrane. Thanks for posting.

  • @aborrebach I liked the ball-chopper ending too XD, it's a nice way to tense the end to the extreme!

  • Watching Dave Liebman play scares me. In a good way of course, but you can't help but feel terror, lol.

  • Moammar Gaddafi on bass ladies and gentlemen!

  • FUCKING HELL

  • sean penn in LIEBMAN: a chromatic love story. coming to a blue note near you.

  • Dave Liebman never had hair.

  • @edsensanz Just dig the jazz and stop trying to analyze every thought going through a musician's head.

  • Love the song

  • i like this chart at a slower tempo.

  • WTF is wrong with these ppl... (im saying this in a good way)

  • this sounds wayyy better on the Tenor sax. even the alto would make it sound better. it just sounds too nasally

  • now that's fast!

  • この演奏が一番好きだ

  • Richie!so cool!!

  • Ugh, the soprano sax is definitely not my favorite saxophone...

  • thats quite the sex face hes pulling

  • R.I.P. big Paul!

  • Classic!

  • two great improv masters I love it !!!

  • This song is amazing. I'm playing it in my jazz band class at school. The sheet music for it was nothing like this though

  • thats cause theyre soloing.....

  • That Bass was the Bee's Knees!

  • Hey Im a bass player and i really need to learn the bassline for this. Ive looked online and all it gives me is the head of the song can someone show me where to find the actual basline for it

  • learn how to improvise a walking bass line - google it!

  • chech out Ron carter- builiding walking bass lines. :) or transcribe alot.

  • @12jo0 hey man I'm a bass player too i have the charts for it if that's what you mean? The fake book version of this song. All that walking is all improv

I would say. I'm thinking about transcribing it down however if i get around to doing it i'll send it your way. He's doing some real interesting stuff in there. Good thing he has an intense band to back him up!

  • @theeviltwig ya i started to work out a bassline the only thing is i dont really get what chords are being used if you can help me out with that it would be greatly apreciated. and if you do get the charts done ill take a look at them thanks.

  • @12jo0 Walking over the melody is - Dm7 , Dm7 C Dm7, Gm7, Dm7, C, Dm7 , E , A , E , A , Dm7 , C, Dm7. Walking over solo section is Dm7 for four bars then Gm7 for two then Dm7 for two E7 for one A7 for one Dm7 for one then Dm7 or A7 for one.

If you need something more than that i can get it together pretty easy.

  • @kostor1991 Yes, you are right. I have the sheet music in front of me. What song am i thinking of.. Thanks for the response to my comment i will delete them immediately.

    Cm7 4 bars Fm7 2 bars Cm7 2 bars D7 G7 Cm7 (G7)

  • @kostor1991 I see. I was looking at the chorus of the song in Bb. To solo over in standard key (Cmin) Chros is Cmin7 2 bars Cm7 Bb Cm7. Bar 5 - Fm7 2 bars Cm7 Bb Cm7 (anticipated Dm7) G7 D7 G7 Cm7 Bb Cm7.

    Solo Section Cm7 4 bars Fm7 2 bars Cm7 2 bars D7 1 bar G7 1 bar Cm7 1 bar (G7)

You can play more than the blues scale over this tune. Perhaps the bebop scale or the Dorian scale to avoid the blues notes all the time, also helps to hit those juicy sevenths.

  • @theeviltwig minor7th chords are usually played as minor 6th, its a blues standart with minor 6th chords everywhere so you can play dorian or harmonic minor and still be inside the tone (at least that's what i hear in coltrane's version)

  • nice a little to fast for me if they slowed it down it would be nice

  • you dont have to play it that fast

thats the best part about this song- it can be played with an upbeat tempo or be played slower in R&B form and still sound just as good

  • Ritchie is sick. Man....I love that record Antarctica...he's an great teacher too...

  • I have a guitar arrangement for this song, way awesome.

  • Great tune to solo over! Especially if you're into the up tempo blues! :)

  • yeah I bet it was at 60 bps too instead of the 265 that its supposed to be and the solo didnt sound like Shorter or Leibman.

  • Your brother also sucked your **** in elementary school

  • AMazing...:|

  • dude we need to speed it up.................alot

  • o god are u serious!?? ha thats funny i run into u guys hey whens the concert?? i gotta practice

  • its the 19th

  • Shorter plays as he always has. Liebman plays as he does. One woeful regret is that quasi musos and critics have turned the music artform into WWF or even some freakin' sports game. While those two guys probably have good conversation afterwards, the more able critics would like more to toss them into an arena like two mindless pitbulls. I am in agreement with one thing. Go and learn something and master it as these guys are well on their way to doing exactly that. My humble opinion.

  • gigantesque!!!!!

  • In regards to what these guys are playing they both sound great. Wayne's playing is quite abstract which is his thing and his soprano tone is very sweet which is great. On the other hand Dave Liebman's sound is so aggressive! Absolutely amazing energy so much that he plays the soprano andgives the impression he is playing Tenor. Both amazing but I enjoyed Dave's more "vicious" approach more. My humble opinion

  • why does everyone have to dis every video on youtube. It wasn't a high note competition. They were playing music, learn to appreciate it, considering they're way better than any of you losers who sit around criticizing videos all day without any authority to do so. get lives

  • @anapplecannon and aight it the truth! these guys fuckin' rip!

  • energia hombre!!!

  • Dave Liebman is a great soprano player but some parts of his solo sounded like absolute shit. Shorter kicked his ass, plain and simple.

  • wow. when liebman went for those high notes, i was like, "OH SHIT!" and when wayne shorter played those high notes and went like 7 whole steps above i fucking shit myself. shorter schooled him so bad, i actually feel bad for liebman

  • Right on. And he has to sit down....

  • grow up dude.

  • i meant 9:13. whoops

  • 9:31 and is awesome

  • Jack Dejonette...wow...

  • the last two comments was for the guy that said (this tune is in Eb)thats all.

  • there are obvious parallels but compare this to the solo Coltrane played on the album.

  • "I new exactly what Liebman's solo was going to be like before I even watched the video, and I haven't even listened to him as a player! They all keep talking about having your own voice and that they are individuals when all they do is stand in the shadow of Coltrane! All I ever here is Coltrane this and Coltrane that like he was the only Saxophone player that ever lived or is worth listening to! RIDICULOUS"

It really doesn't sound that much like Coltrane.

  • Not to mention..he gets raped by Wayne Shorter.

  • c minor. Is that what you are going for?

  • DAVE LIEBMAN KILLED IT!

  • I new exactly what Liebman's solo was going to be like before I even watched the video, and I haven't even listened to him as a player! • I don't even understand your message, I think it got lost in the rant that you typed. Are you saying you like them or don't, or that you like Coltrane or don't? Or do you just not like anyone and are a stuck up brat?

  • Those harmonics are tough to play.

  • ese es mi maestro....DAVE LIEBMAN

  • wow!! ^ ^ O O o

  • I love this song

    its amazing

for some reason i have an Eb fetish.

  • It's not Eb lol

  • Im not sure if you know, that there is a difference between Eb and C minor?

  • I dont think you know that there`s a difference between Eb and C minor

  • Its the same.

  • they come fromm the same scale but it's a different mode

  • Not necessarily. Only if you chose C minor to be aeolian. Melodic Minor is often applied to the minor blues.

  • dangggggg!

  • Dang, Jack de Johnette! I venerated him after I heard him play "Every Day I Thank You" with Pat Metheny. And I'm not even a drummer. And he's playing with Eddie Gomez!

  • Yeah this is Gomez! He's Mothefuckin best!

  • its amazing!!!!all of them are genius!!!!who doesn´t understand what ist happening here i recommend to listen at Ricky Martin, eminem,Roberto Blanco or one of the greats singers of reggeton.

  • you forgot Dieter Bohlen.

  • This is amazing. Jack is a maniac...and he looks so matter of fact.

  • mortal

  • Are you kiddin'??? Richie is a MONSTER! Along with Herbie and Chick, McCoy and Mehldau...he's one of the greatest EVER! Could you imagine that he possibly had problems with the sound situation or something...so, please think about this next time, thanx.

  • Liebman owns Wayne Shorter. It's also great to hear Ritchie get a solo.

  • sweet...mother...fucking...christ!!

  • AAAAAUUUUUUUCHHH!!!!

  • G-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-goddamn!!!

  • Is that Eddie Gomez on bass? That guy is a monster. He and Jack are freakin' heavy on this tune.

  • god, Jack is just all over this! Catching fire over Wayne's solo... stunning!

  • not everybody can stand up for the legend. he could. respect! beautiful...

  • now i read that he'salso some kind of living legend.. i'm a jazz-wannabee, i discover this genre from a very short time forgive me :P

well... apart from that i'm amazed by their playing :)

  • dude, this is sick!! The ending was awesome!!

  • REDICKULUS

  • Jack's solo is missing, then that would be perfect :(

  • so much vocabulary here, love the ending

  • awesome we are playing this in band!

  • what a line up

  • awesome video of this song.

  • fucking amazing

  • godDAMN!!!
