You can use the chain-poison glitch though if you're really desperate. Just get a big chain on something (like urstrix or wolves) until chain level 4 is reached, poison a dive talon, run, keep your distance, get sighted or cast a status effect on it like slow or blind so dive talon doesn't restore its HP after it starts to head back, run, and repeat. When dive talon dies, the chain won't break. The quickening method is the best for having the least amount of time on the clock.
I used the direct approach since that keeps the game clock to a minimum. If no burning bow is dropped with the quickening chain, quit and reload. Else, save the game immediately, then resume the process.
have you tried stealing the Glaudis dagger from the rare wolf, kill it near the entrance, exit out before it displays EXP and when you return, its there again to steal from?
This has tho be...the SINGLE...most stressful thing I have ever done in my entire life. I took me sometimes around 7 tries to actually kill the dive talon, then the heart-dropping hankercheifs...But, I got lucky where this is concerned. I got the burning bow, in about 20 minutes, after killing around 10 dive talons...derived from the table you made at gamefaqs, I had about a 17% chance at getting it...It was weird, because I did a little dance just before picking the loot up... :O
@Devour7Shadow YOU GOT THE BOW IN 20 MINS. one night i sat down and said im going to get this thing tonight i was up all not i did not get it and i chained them did the poison thing did every method
Also, forgot to mention about the Gladius: Alraunes are weak to Wind as well. This means you'll be able to 1 shot Alraunes pretty much immediately provided you can hit them. The only Westersand enemies that will give you trouble would be the Sleipnirs. I'm gonna do a video series, I'll see how fast I can hit 99 using the 40 hour method, the only thing I'll do differently is use the Gladius to hit level 35-40 from Werewolves, then I'll farm the Burning Bow and continue on to Garamsythe
If you get the gladius instead, you won't be able to make this process as fast as it could be if using the 70-hour method. If using the 40-hour method, you'll die well before you'll fell just one of the enemies you'll be dealing with in stage 8 (yep, 500 damage per hit from the enemies and you'll need nearly a dozen so you're looking at 5000+ HP damage for a single enemy). The burning bow is the only way stage 8 is even possible.
@ulillillia The Gladius makes sense in a different way though. Werewolves are weak to wind, as are the Urstrixes. Gladius isn't hard to get either, and the LP to license it is cheap. If you use the Gladius, you can start solo chaining Werewolves around level 25, get up to level 35+ like this, then use Holy Mote + Water Mote to take out a Dive Talon when you want to start farming for Burning Bow.
@ulillillia There's a Holy Mote in the Westersand, Midfault area. Grab it, knock yourself down to critical HP. Fire off the Holy Mote at the Dive Talon, as it's loading the Holy animation, get a Water Mote ready. Shoot that off. Much faster and more consistent than Quickenings. It does, however, require a bit higher level. Motes are magic-based, so the Traveler's Garbs are good armor. Get a Flame Staff from Dustia, you're set. I was level 35 when I started shooting for my Burning Bow
Isn't it obvious from the video? I can tell you haven't followed the tutorial. I would strongly recommend my approach in the GameFAQs guide though - it's much more efficient.
All dive talons can drop them. As part of the 70-hour method, I tend to get a dozen more from the 3 that are right next to the entrance to the Zertinan Caverns.
its funny how you say reset when you could just quit to the main title. for awhile i would save after so i was at level 21 then i got tired of wasting precious time and it took about 1 to 3 mins for each one. tried 85 times in 1 hour finally got it
85 times in 1 hour!? That's considerably faster than my average of 69 tries in 3 hours. Are you sure on that, a try every roughly 50 seconds? The game spends much more time loading zones than that. Throw in the animation and effects of the quickenings and there's no way 85 tries in one hour is possible.
@ulillillia sorry hahaha was a bit excited i ended up getting 4 or 5 more bows. i though about it logically. it wasnt that many but damn was it a lot. just pause press square and yes then reload. save the time from rebooting the system. now im stuck on the winged helm from the faq _-_
@ulillillia yeaa got that. just wondering if there was anything else. i know you suggested the waterway at lvl 40 at the least but i hit it at lvl 35. only trouble was you needed to work fast because it was 7 or 8 hits hahahaha
By "big jumps", I mean big jumps in difficulty. You go from dealing with enemies that are easy to handle to tough (the Westersand enemies). These gradually become easier then the werewolves are introduced. Soon, these go down in 2 hits then it's the dive talon. These eventually get down to 3 then 2 hits. The 40-hour method introduces malboro overkings and the like and they go from 10 or so hits to 3, essentially becoming easy to deal with.
@ulillillia Yeah I noticed the differences and have been using the gamefaqs version. But it is nice have something to look at rather than text. I never completed FF12 but for some reason doing stuff like this brings some new life to it. Makes me realize how great of a game this actually is.
It's not as effective but it can work to some extent. You'll still need several hits though, the only problem. For stage 7 and later of the 40-hour method, you must have the burning bow. Stage 6 will be rather slow, lengthening the actual duration at which each werewolf is defeated. Dive talon might still be doable, but handle with great care as the effect might expire before it gets defeated. The enemies in stage 8 may not even take damage but if they do, it takes way too long.
ive been going like 10 hrs 2 quickening so i was like screw this ima go buy ff13-------- worst ff ever -.- returned it 2 days after (21 june) the game makers are screwing up ff with all this sht(i might try get it but im lvl 26 and board of it)
is it essential to get the bow because ive been at it for 18 hours and nothing yet can i just use the heavy lance that i got of fedeliant it has 48 atk and 8 evade
try to get the belias summon, in lvl 35-39 you can kill him early, and later you can get the demonsbayne too in this dungeon in one treasure, =), good damage
It seems like either I replied to the wrong comment or YouTube glitched, putting the comment on the wrong part. The former is more likely though. I meant to reply to the question on resetting the game clock. The game clock cannot be reset without a Gameshark (or the like) or starting a new game.
Monographs don't help at all. They only increase the number of items you can potentially get from 4 to 5 (the canopic jar adds a sixth potential drop).
Hehe ^^ I have 3 quickenings :pp AND BTW DUDEE!!!!!! I got a burning bow 30 min ago!! :) took only 13 minutes ! I'm so lucky loool. Now I'm getting travellers grab, I only need one braid wool ;)
I aimed on getting Gladius before the Burning bow (: Its faster to kill enemies and get LP ! Well thanks anyways, you have helped me ALOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT <3 I just got my 2nd gladius which I'm going to give to Penelo.
One thing about quickenings!!!! When I shuffle with R2.. Do I need to tap it only once and see if there is a triangle or is it better to just smack R2 and triangle at the same time :pp Sorry if you didnt get my point haha! Couldnt explain it better :-)
Press R2 until you don't see any of those "disks" in the far right. When this happens, quickly and repeatedly press triangle to execute mist charge then the quickening that follows. If you have 2 quickenings, that's a different case.
That gives you an idea how long ago these videos were recorded. At the time, I had no idea that the "quit" option even existed. That's why I used the reset button.
The odds are highly against you. 1% is not very friendly. 69 attempts are needed (that's 3 hours) for a 50% chance. It's all in the mathematics, the field of statistics in particular.
@ulillillia yeah I just don't have good luck with probability haha. Still, got my bow now it's on to grind werewolfs. Gonna do it w/o immobilize. Werewolfs are only hitting me for 150 a hit. I just keep running away til they stop chasing and keep hitting and running lol. Thanks for these vids though dude. Definitely a help.
My GameFAQs powerleveling guide is far more efficient and is much better than these videos. I've had plans for redoing these, but I need to regain my motivation for returning to FF12 (Disgaea and working on my own game, Platform Masters, has taken over considerably).
@ulillillia haha I know what you mean man. Disgaea 3 is addicting as hell. I was on a 4 year hiatus from FF12 before I took up this project. Still haven't beaten Yiazmat or Omega Mark in FF12 and that's been getting on my nerves. Last time I fought Yiazmat I did it without leaving the area and without Decoy/Reverse and got within 5 bars of victory using 3 characters. :/ 3 hours of hell for nada.
LoC Item world is awesome. Still tryin to make my party beast enough to take on maxed Tyrant Baal.
on day 3 trying to get this stupid bow... Starting to think that this bow does not exist. only gotten 4 large feathers, half of the time the stupid birds don't even drop anything.
There are 3 ways - equipment that raises the speed stat or, the best way, obtain swiftness licenses. There is a third method - haste (it's obtainable only in the 40-hour method via the Hermes Sandals item).
YAYA I GOT IT!!! I GOT THE BURNING BOW!!! Like the only time i got 5 hits in a row took me a while, but I got the burning bow. When it said i had it, i jumped around my living room crying and dancing!!!! I'M SO HAPPY!!
alright amazingly and honestly it took me exactly 2 hours and 36 minutes to get burning bow.... which really surprised me... i didnt quit and reload (leveld to 23-36 :)
zman thaaaanx tooo much i got the burning bow finally with 14hour :P long time i know but really thanks for ur help iam now continue the story to get the immobilize and continue to lvl 99 thanx too much i will be in the another videos put comments hope u see it later and help me if i got a trouble...thanx
14 hours is the longest duration I've seen yet and, provided you use the quit-and-reload method instead of the reset button, that's a little more than 300 tries' worth. FF12 has no soft reset with the familiar 6-button method (the 4 L and R buttons plus start and select), it has, instead, a "quit" option, of which was well hidden (these videos were recorded before I even knew of the existence of "quit"). My GameFAQs guide details the most up to date routine and is much more efficient.
ammmm i try this last 2days but....nothing i dont save i just kill that talon if didnt give me start +square +yes and then load the game and kill it another time without savin but really on these toq days i try more than 5hours thats mean 14 hours and more than 250try !!! its too long time to get that bow i know but nothing happend all what i got is pebble and wind magitice and handkchief thats all what
look can u tell me how to use the soft reset ..the right way to use it how ..
and its take me more than 9hours !!! its toooo long time i got the badest luck ever
i try over 100time back load kill back load i start feel boring of doing this trick !!
so thats really problem 9 hours !!! and maybe i will continue with 20hours and maybe all the day without getting that bow is there a wrong in my steps or ????
just tell me i wiil be w8ing and thanx for evry thing the last vedios was really helpfull
It's not unusual to go on for 9 hours. If you used the quit method (start, square, up, x), you'd be just over 200 trials in. I've had 2 cases where I needed to go on for 8+ hours so 9 hours isn't unusual. I've also gotten the burning bow on my first try as well.
ammm i think there is a problem with me i try to make the soft reset but ahh its dosent work with me so i just save in the first go kill that talon if it dosent give me the burning bow i click start +square and get back to the title screen load try another time look is this workin or not tell me plz and another one thing plz tell me how u can do the soft reset plz !!! i will be waiting ...
The reset button or quit and reload causes the game clock to reset after the save. It is strongly advised that you do not save after defeating the dive talon - that mostly just wastes time on both sides - the game clock and the real world.
Stage 6 covers that in both this dated and inefficient method the video covers (6-1 in the video series) and the more efficient GameFAQs guide method.
Monographs have no effect on the drop rate of the burning bow (or even the wind magicite and other stuff), they only add an extra item or two that may be dropped. While unsure of the exact mechanics, from my observations, 6 random numbers are generated, likely from 0 to 99. If the random number is less than 60, the 60% drop is given, otherwise it's not. It repeats this separately for each item. The 2 extras are ignored if monographs or the canopic jar are not possessed.
Like I said, monographs only add an additional item drop. The odds of the main 4 are left unchanged, but the odds of seeing an item bag go up simply because there's another item possibility (5 instead of 4). Get the canopic jar and that'll increase even further.
I got my burning bow on my second try for two games I've done. I guess I'm pretty lucky. Ulillillia, you should turn this into a power level walkthrough. I'd really love to see you explore the rest of the game showing all the secrets of the game and such while making commentary.
There is actually something like that. It's a remake of these videos plus much more. I have a guide on GameFAQs that covers what the future video will cover, though that guide needs adjustments.
This video series demonstrates a rather inefficient method. My guide on GameFAQs, aside from a few errors, is much better in regards to efficiency and there's plenty of new things to post on my GameFAQs guide. I'm remaking this video series and it will cover a lot more, though it may not be until November or December that you'll see it and another update to my GameFAQs guide. For starts, I thought getting level 99 in under 50 hours without dustia was good. Under 40 is about as easy.
yesterday i tried this for 6 hours and gave up, does it matter what lvl you are or the quickenings you use, cus i was lvl 27 and had all 3 lvls of quickening, i'm starting to think it's not even worth it
While I have gotten the burning bow on the very first try, I've had 2 cases where I needed to go on for 8+ hours, the longest being 9. It's not all that unusual to be going on for 6 hours without it. I was unaware of the existence of the quit option so I ended wasting a lot more time. Saving at the end of each defeat is pointless beyond about level 19. At 19 (maybe 20 though not 18), it appears that, if you get the concurrence, dive talon is otherwise guaranteed to be defeated.
i am terrible while trying to get the bow, i forgot about the position you need to be in and sometimes i can't even get a second one and sometimes takes me 4 tries
Hheh I was kinda lucky.. I think that WHERE the hell did u guys get burning bow early? When I killed 3rd time a Dive Talon (and I didn't know that it drops burning bow). So you can know what happened! :D IT DROPPED BURNING BOW AND I SHOUTED: WHAT THE ****! :D
I need help i've been over 10h trying to get the burning bow but the dive talon never drop any bow..by the way i'm portuguese so if i writting some thing wrong sorry man i really like your videos but i need help :'(
It can take a while, considering that quickenings have long-lasting effects. 1% odds are not the most friendly. I needed 8 hours in this run, though it could've been 6 1/2 if I'd have known of the existence of the "quit" option (start, [], ^, X).
wait i just have a question... if you were level 17 when u started and it took you almost 8 hours to get the burning bow thats like alot of xp... wouldnt u be like aloootttt higher than lvl 18?
If you press the reset button every time you don't get it (pause then quit is better, but I was unaware of the existence of this) instead of saving, quiting, then reloading, you won't get the level ups. The difference of 17 to 18 was because I went after the monograph after 5 hours in to see if that would help, but it has no effect. On my current play, I got it at level 16... on the very first attempt. You could do it at level 10, but getting this deep into the Westersand is another story.
It's square, not circle. I was completely unaware of the existence of the "quit" option so I thought the reset button was the only way to restart from a previous save.
I would doubt that. You'll often see that the pebble is mixed in with the other things and you're more likely to get an item drop of sorts. The odds shouldn't be affected.
No. It's only a drop, but in a way, that's a good thing because you can keep great distance and run if you want to do it at a low level like 15 or something.
If you repeatedly reset the console or quit the game upon not getting the burning bow then reloading your game save, the clock will always start at the same value for each attempt. See for yourself and you'll see it's not false/fake.
You only need 1 bow. Stage 7 is where you have a chance of accumulating more bows - 3 is all you really need. The first one is rough, but the others aren't as bad, and in stage 7, you've got immobilize to really hasten this process.
Once you've reached the level 99 goal, then do consider getting more burning bows so that you have at least 3 total (in stock and equipped). This will allow a full party to be equipped with the best possible weapon for the next 1/2 of the game. You'll be able to defeat a dive talon in 2 hits by this point so it'll be blazing fast. The area in the Westersand next to the entrance to the Zertinan Caverns is the best - there's 3 of them so that's more chances.
If you like close-in combat instead of ranged combat, then go ahead and use the kotetsu. These tend to get combos quite a bit which accelerates the damage they do, but only slightly. If you have an excess of them, more than 2, then go ahead and sell them, if you need to the gil, but keep 2 kotetsus and 1 burning bow, at least (the bow is more powerful).
That would likely be about 36 attempts - you have a 30.4% chance of having it by then, slightly less often than that of rolling a die once and getting either a 5 or 6.
The only story progress needed to get level 99 in reasonable time is seeing the parade in Rabanastre. This route allows all 6 characters to reach level 99, however, it'll take about 90 to 100 hours to do. If you only go as far as completing the Nalbina Dungeons event, so that Vaan is alone for the final time in the game, you'll get 4 characters at level 99 in 40 to 50 hours, of which is the best route, the one I recommend the most. You can get poison with this route though.
@ulillillia but it isnt worth it because when ur get poison and u can use the chain glitch ur supposed to have the bow already xD so it aint worth it ! ill just do it normaly xD
I'm explaining how to do it without the poison spell being used. This was done so that you can use the Westersand method, the 100-hour method that allows everyone to start on level 99. If you don't want to take that route, then go ahead and make story progress until you've completed the Nalbina Dungeons event (but don't get Basch in the party) and use the poison glitch. You can't buy the burning bow until you reach Phon Coast, a long ways away into the story.
u can always chain wolves to a big chain lvl and then kill the dive talon with poison or another status effect and u will high lvl loot = better probability to B.Bow even better with monograph i guess!
Monographs have no apparent effect on the odds, only chains do. However, you don't get the poison spell until you've completed the Nalbina Dungeons event.
I've had it in somewhere from 50 to 60 tries once so I've had it within 3 hours. It's possible you'd have it first thing too, or it'll take 300 tries to do it. The more tries you want it within, the greater the odds become. It's based on the formula "1-(1-Probability)^Tries". 1% means "Probability" is 0.01. 300 attempts means "Tries" is 300. You'll just need to convert the result to a percentage from there.
Assuming 150 seconds per attempt, 24 attempts per hour (72 total), you have a 51.5% chance of having the burning bow by then. For a 1 in 6 chance, you'll need it within 18.141 attempts. Looking at it like this, 1% odds doesn't seem all that bad, but it's the sheer time it takes per attempt that really makes it seem troublesome.
The usual 6-button method that works with pretty much every other PS1 game I've seen and played doesn't work with FF12 for some reason and I tried it.
ugh been trying too get this bow for two days now and im lvl 33! cant beleive u manged at lvl 18 =P then again i saved every time i killed 1....did u chain? or just repeat killing that specific dive talon?
do you have to chain dive talons or just hope they drop the burning bow right off the spot?
xepherosx12 3 weeks ago
You can use the chain-poison glitch though if you're really desperate. Just get a big chain on something (like urstrix or wolves) until chain level 4 is reached, poison a dive talon, run, keep your distance, get sighted or cast a status effect on it like slow or blind so dive talon doesn't restore its HP after it starts to head back, run, and repeat. For 10 dive talons, your odds are not 17%, but less, much less. The actual odds are "1-0.99^10" or about 9.56%. So, lucky you.

try to get the belias summon, in lvl 35-39 you can kill him early, and later you can get the demonsbayne too in this dungeon in one treasure, =), good damage
IkORn90 9 months ago
The only way is to either use a Gameshark or start a new game.
ulillillia 9 months ago
@ulillillia i dont think so, just try it, =)
IkORn90 9 months ago
It seems like either I replied to the wrong comment or YouTube glitched, putting the comment on the wrong part. The former is more likely though. I meant to reply to the question on resetting the game clock. The game clock cannot be reset without a Gameshark (or the like) or starting a new game.
ulillillia 9 months ago
ok, thanks for you reply =)
IkORn90 9 months ago
how can i drop the hunters monograps?! these can help with the drop really?!
IkORn90 9 months ago
Monographs don't help at all. They only increase the number of items you can potentially get from 4 to 5 (the canopic jar adds a sixth potential drop).
ulillillia 9 months ago
@ulillillia and how can i reset the game clock?

I aimed on getting Gladius before the Burning bow (: Its faster to kill enemies and get LP ! Well thanks anyways, you have helped me ALOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT <3 I just got my 2nd gladius which I'm going to give to Penelo.
One thing about quickenings!!!! When I shuffle with R2.. Do I need to tap it only once and see if there is a triangle or is it better to just smack R2 and triangle at the same time :pp Sorry if you didnt get my point haha! Couldnt explain it better :-)
AlzzuGuitar 10 months ago
Press R2 until you don't see any of those "disks" in the far right. When this happens, quickly and repeatedly press triangle to execute mist charge then the quickening that follows. If you have 2 quickenings, that's a different case.

why did you reset the console instead of just quiting to the game menu? wouldn't that have like, drastically speeded things up for you?
tylersabourin12 10 months ago
That gives you an idea how long ago these videos were recorded. At the time, I had no idea that the "quit" option even existed. That's why I used the reset button.

Mynamesbob8 10 months ago
The odds are highly against you. 1% is not very friendly. 69 attempts are needed (that's 3 hours) for a 50% chance. It's all in the mathematics, the field of statistics in particular.
ulillillia 10 months ago
@ulillillia yeah I just don't have good luck with probability haha. Still, got my bow now it's on to grind werewolfs. Gonna do it w/o immobilize. Werewolfs are only hitting me for 150 a hit. I just keep running away til they stop chasing and keep hitting and running lol. Thanks for these vids though dude. Definitely a help.
Mynamesbob8 10 months ago
My GameFAQs powerleveling guide is far more efficient and is much better than these videos. I've had plans for redoing these, but I need to regain my motivation for returning to FF12 (Disgaea and working on my own game, Platform Masters, has taken over considerably).
ulillillia 10 months ago
@ulillillia haha I know what you mean man. Disgaea 3 is addicting as hell. I was on a 4 year hiatus from FF12 before I took up this project. Still haven't beaten Yiazmat or Omega Mark in FF12 and that's been getting on my nerves. Last time I fought Yiazmat I did it without leaving the area and without Decoy/Reverse and got within 5 bars of victory using 3 characters. :/ 3 hours of hell for nada.
LoC Item world is awesome. Still tryin to make my party beast enough to take on maxed Tyrant Baal.

jenos70 1 year ago
14 hours is the longest duration I've seen yet and, provided you use the quit-and-reload method instead of the reset button, that's a little more than 300 tries' worth. FF12 has no soft reset with the familiar 6-button method (the 4 L and R buttons plus start and select), it has, instead, a "quit" option, of which was well hidden (these videos were recorded before I even knew of the existence of "quit"). My GameFAQs guide details the most up to date routine and is much more efficient.

just tell me i wiil be w8ing and thanx for evry thing the last vedios was really helpfull
jenos70 1 year ago
It's not unusual to go on for 9 hours. If you used the quit method (start, square, up, x), you'd be just over 200 trials in. I've had 2 cases where I needed to go on for 8+ hours so 9 hours isn't unusual. I've also gotten the burning bow on my first try as well.
ulillillia 1 year ago
ammm i think there is a problem with me i try to make the soft reset but ahh its dosent work with me so i just save in the first go kill that talon if it dosent give me the burning bow i click start +square and get back to the title screen load try another time look is this workin or not tell me plz and another one thing plz tell me how u can do the soft reset plz !!! i will be waiting ...
jenos70 1 year ago
how is it that when you say it took you 7 2/3 hours that your game clock only said 5:45 or were you going by total time non game clock?
Fuzzytin 1 year ago
The reset button or quit and reload causes the game clock to reset after the save. It is strongly advised that you do not save after defeating the dive talon - that mostly just wastes time on both sides - the game clock and the real world.
ulillillia 1 year ago
took me 3 hours lol now where do i get immobilize?

Stage 6 covers that in both this dated and inefficient method the video covers (6-1 in the video series) and the more efficient GameFAQs guide method.

Washingmachin3 1 year ago
Patience and luck's the only key on getting this, I've been doing this for 5 hours now yet, still no bow.
Washingmachin3 1 year ago
they say monographs increase chances from 1% to 5% but I dont think its even 1%
TUqpUT 1 year ago
Monographs have no effect on the drop rate of the burning bow (or even the wind magicite and other stuff), they only add an extra item or two that may be dropped. While unsure of the exact mechanics, from my observations, 6 random numbers are generated, likely from 0 to 99. If the random number is less than 60, the 60% drop is given, otherwise it's not. It repeats this separately for each item. The 2 extras are ignored if monographs or the canopic jar are not possessed.
ulillillia 1 year ago
@ulillillia But if the monograph increases the drop rate of the items from 0% to 2% thats and increase =P
TUqpUT 1 year ago
Like I said, monographs only add an additional item drop. The odds of the main 4 are left unchanged, but the odds of seeing an item bag go up simply because there's another item possibility (5 instead of 4). Get the canopic jar and that'll increase even further.
ulillillia 1 year ago
@ulillillia Thats what I said, practically 0% drop chance makes the drop not exist.
TUqpUT 1 year ago
I got my burning bow on my second try for two games I've done. I guess I'm pretty lucky. Ulillillia, you should turn this into a power level walkthrough. I'd really love to see you explore the rest of the game showing all the secrets of the game and such while making commentary.
Llaandr 1 year ago
There is actually something like that. It's a remake of these videos plus much more. I have a guide on GameFAQs that covers what the future video will cover, though that guide needs adjustments.
ulillillia 1 year ago
WOW... at second try !!! love the guide btw.
evangeli0n 1 year ago
This video series demonstrates a rather inefficient method. My guide on GameFAQs, aside from a few errors, is much better in regards to efficiency and there's plenty of new things to post on my GameFAQs guide. I'm remaking this video series and it will cover a lot more, though it may not be until November or December that you'll see it and another update to my GameFAQs guide. For starts, I thought getting level 99 in under 50 hours without dustia was good. Under 40 is about as easy.
ulillillia 1 year ago
yesterday i tried this for 6 hours and gave up, does it matter what lvl you are or the quickenings you use, cus i was lvl 27 and had all 3 lvls of quickening, i'm starting to think it's not even worth it
UnlimitedZoro2010 1 year ago
While I have gotten the burning bow on the very first try, I've had 2 cases where I needed to go on for 8+ hours, the longest being 9. It's not all that unusual to be going on for 6 hours without it. I was unaware of the existence of the quit option so I ended wasting a lot more time. Saving at the end of each defeat is pointless beyond about level 19. At 19 (maybe 20 though not 18), it appears that, if you get the concurrence, dive talon is otherwise guaranteed to be defeated.
ulillillia 1 year ago
OH MY FREAKING GOD, I'AM PROBABLY THE LUCKIEST MAN ON THIS STEP, I GET THE BURNING BOW ON MY 5TH TRY, I'M SO HAPPY =)

kratos97261 1 year ago
It can take a while, considering that quickenings have long-lasting effects. 1% odds are not the most friendly. I needed 8 hours in this run, though it could've been 6 1/2 if I'd have known of the existence of the "quit" option (start, [], ^, X).
ulillillia 1 year ago
wait i just have a question... if you were level 17 when u started and it took you almost 8 hours to get the burning bow thats like alot of xp... wouldnt u be like aloootttt higher than lvl 18?
leonpal14 1 year ago
If you press the reset button every time you don't get it (pause then quit is better, but I was unaware of the existence of this) instead of saving, quiting, then reloading, you won't get the level ups. The difference of 17 to 18 was because I went after the monograph after 5 hours in to see if that would help, but it has no effect. On my current play, I got it at level 16... on the very first attempt. You could do it at level 10, but getting this deep into the Westersand is another story.
ulillillia 1 year ago
hnn why do you press the reset button instead of pressing start and the circle button that just brings you to the main menu saves alot of time =o
brinx9364 1 year ago
It's square, not circle. I was completely unaware of the existence of the "quit" option so I thought the reset button was the only way to restart from a previous save.
ulillillia 1 year ago
i saw online that the monograph only gets to drop pebles on the dive talon, so i guess it gets even harder to get the B.Bow
kryxpontes 1 year ago
I would doubt that. You'll often see that the pebble is mixed in with the other things and you're more likely to get an item drop of sorts. The odds shouldn't be affected.

ulillillia 1 year ago
@ulillillia I mean the time between the previous video and burning it came straight bow is why I say that is false
FCO32 1 year ago
If you repeatedly reset the console or quit the game upon not getting the burning bow then reloading your game save, the clock will always start at the same value for each attempt. See for yourself and you'll see it's not false/fake.
ulillillia 1 year ago
I have been on this for 5 days and only have 1 bow :(
VvJSlayerVv 1 year ago
You only need 1 bow. Stage 7 is where you have a chance of accumulating more bows - 3 is all you really need. The first one is rough, but the others aren't as bad, and in stage 7, you've got immobilize to really hasten this process.
ulillillia 1 year ago
@VvJSlayerVv ok thx i was working for 5 days now and only need 1 bow lol :)
VvJSlayerVv 1 year ago
Once you've reached the level 99 goal, then do consider getting more burning bows so that you have at least 3 total (in stock and equipped). This will allow a full party to be equipped with the best possible weapon for the next 1/2 of the game. You'll be able to defeat a dive talon in 2 hits by this point so it'll be blazing fast. The area in the Westersand next to the entrance to the Zertinan Caverns is the best - there's 3 of them so that's more chances.
ulillillia 1 year ago
@ulillillia Ok thx um i also have a kotestu from training with the wolfs should i sell that and get more bows or do u think i should keep it.
VvJSlayerVv 1 year ago
If you like close-in combat instead of ranged combat, then go ahead and use the kotetsu. These tend to get combos quite a bit which accelerates the damage they do, but only slightly. If you have an excess of them, more than 2, then go ahead and sell them, if you need to the gil, but keep 2 kotetsus and 1 burning bow, at least (the bow is more powerful).
ulillillia 1 year ago
@ulillillia ok thx.
VvJSlayerVv 1 year ago
would steal work too to get the bow?
marlonful 1 year ago
Steal does not work for getting the bow. It's an item drop only.
ulillillia 1 year ago
just telling ya i got it in like 1.5h xD really lucky
ANy5500 1 year ago
That would likely be about 36 attempts - you have a 30.4% chance of having it by then, slightly less often than that of rolling a die once and getting either a 5 or 6.
ulillillia 1 year ago
right forgot no story progress! xD
ANy5500 1 year ago
The only story progress needed to get level 99 in reasonable time is seeing the parade in Rabanastre. This route allows all 6 characters to reach level 99, however, it'll take about 90 to 100 hours to do. If you only go as far as completing the Nalbina Dungeons event, so that Vaan is alone for the final time in the game, you'll get 4 characters at level 99 in 40 to 50 hours, of which is the best route, the one I recommend the most. You can get poison with this route though.
ulillillia 1 year ago
@ulillillia but it isnt worth it because when ur get poison and u can use the chain glitch ur supposed to have the bow already xD so it aint worth it ! ill just do it normaly xD
ANy5500 1 year ago
I'm explaining how to do it without the poison spell being used. This was done so that you can use the Westersand method, the 100-hour method that allows everyone to start on level 99. If you don't want to take that route, then go ahead and make story progress until you've completed the Nalbina Dungeons event (but don't get Basch in the party) and use the poison glitch. You can't buy the burning bow until you reach Phon Coast, a long ways away into the story.
ulillillia 1 year ago
u can always chain wolves to a big chain lvl and then kill the dive talon with poison or another status effect and u will high lvl loot = better probability to B.Bow even better with monograph i guess!
ANy5500 1 year ago
Monographs have no apparent effect on the odds, only chains do. However, you don't get the poison spell until you've completed the Nalbina Dungeons event.
ulillillia 1 year ago
I've had it in somewhere from 50 to 60 tries once so I've had it within 3 hours. It's possible you'd have it first thing too, or it'll take 300 tries to do it. The more tries you want it within, the greater the odds become. It's based on the formula "1-(1-Probability)^Tries". 1% means "Probability" is 0.01. 300 attempts means "Tries" is 300. You'll just need to convert the result to a percentage from there.
ulillillia 1 year ago
Assuming 150 seconds per attempt, 24 attempts per hour (72 total), you have a 51.5% chance of having the burning bow by then. For a 1 in 6 chance, you'll need it within 18.141 attempts. Looking at it like this, 1% odds doesn't seem all that bad, but it's the sheer time it takes per attempt that really makes it seem troublesome.
