Nice truck mate. I love the v8. Just wondering where your lpg gas tank is fitted? If it is fitted underneath the rear of the truck, does it hang too low for offroad use? I have a 80 series landcruiser with the 4.5 twin cam and I'm not sure if I should put it underneath at the rear or inside where the boot would be. Any comments or advice would be appreciated. BA
I have the tank directly behind the rear seat (east-west). I looked into getting an under car tank but the size was too small to be useful. I have heard of Discos having two torpedo type tanks under the sills but clearance is effected. I dare say you would be able to put tanks under the toyota as an option. The Disco has stuff all space behind the rear seat and I was actually looking at getting a Land Rover 110 for the longer wheelbase.
Always wanted an SD1. The Disco is getting an LPG cam soon, new lifters etc. Sunk it yesterday but its happy now. Ive put extractors on it since this video. Sounds somewhat smoother but just as agressive with a bit more power. Yep its a 3.9. It gets absolutely hammered but gets regular maintenance. Has never had a big problem in 25000km of thrashing.
Have you heard of a place called rover tech? There very good, they work on all 3.5 3.9 4.0 and 4.6 hse. How much is the gas conversion? Im looking at a disco soon
Yeah Ive heard of them. Good rep from what Ive heard. I tend to do my own work though. I import parts from UK and then do the work myself. I would like to have a 4.6 or even a 5.2 made for me though. Im port matching my heads/manifold next time I take my heads off. Maybe a set of high comp pistons.
So you converted yours from petrol to LPG. Is it a complicated project to to do this? To be honest, although my Discovery consumes a lot of petrol I love the vehicle and refuse to get rid of it. I am thinking of converting it.
It was converted when I bought it. The setup is very simple and has run like magic since I put Magnecor leads on it. Not sure where you are but in Australia the Govt pays pretty much all of your gas conversion on a car. I would not own it if it was not gas converted.
Supercat is the brand. An Australian brand as far as I know. It only starts getting loud over 3500rpm which is great around town. No issues with police due to noise. Currently it is attached to standard manifolds running to a single sports muffler then 2.5 inch the rest of the way. No rear muffler/resonator. Yes it really howls when you want it to.

2.5 inch all the way through plus a single sports muffler. It revs much nicer now too.
