  • Can anyone tell me which piece, written by Herbert/Sullivan, this is from? I'm trying to credit them in a quote :-)

    Thanks!

  • The song is from C.B. Cochran's revue of 1937, 'Home and Beauty', which was written for the Coronation season (I think it was at the Adelphi). So the recording was probably made that year. Sung in the show by Binnie Hale, it was the big hit of the revue. Nelson Keys, Gitta Alpar and Greta Gynt were some of the other performers.

  • haha just sung this in my panto right katherine :) xx

  • I love the scene in "The Dresser" when Tom Courtney sang it to to the sick and failing Albert Finney. Very intertaining. The song wasn't written in the original play.

  • Reminds me of my nana when I was little, she used to sing the chorus to me all the time. God bless her!!

  • English to the core, what a country and heritage we have!!

I have a copy of this record and enjoy always.
