God that match seemed just like yesterday to me. I still remember when they interviewd Steamboat long after that match and he was telling Okerlund that people in the crowd near him was saying that when his head hit the concrete it sounded like a watermelon bursting.

Seriously!! It sucked as a kid, that 1) it was pretty late for a kid so many times I would try to stay up, but pass out sometimes 2) you never knew when it was on!!
I would listen at 7:59pm (Billy Red Lyons) here in Toronto, as he would announce next week's card during the closing credits, and once in a blue moon 'and stay tuned for Saturday Nights Main Event'. Who knew that it was on once a month.
I feel your pain at1212b because most of the time when I found out SNME was coming on as hard as I tried to stay awake I would pass out. When I did get to catch a show it was magic. The cage match with Hogan and Orndorff sticks out in my head and the Hogan/Perfect match was a dream match to me as a kid.
Why does hearing this song and seeing The Iron Sheik and Brian Blair in the intro remind me of Sheik wanting to fuck Blair's ass, break his back and make him humble?
HA, The Macho Man and that weird thing he used to do waving his wrist...I love how the WWF used to use 80's pop music for intros and fade-outs. I was just watching a Body Shop with Jesse Ventura and Andre and they fade out with the theme from Beverly Hills Cop, hahahahaha....awesome bitchin and radical, like totally.
In 89-90 If I was Mchamon I would had a feud with Jimmy Snuka and the Ultimate Warrior. My story line would have been that Snuka presents himself as a mentor to the Warrior, become a tag team.
When the face off with Rude and Earthquake just as Warrior goes into to tag, Snuka judo-chops Warrior to the throat. Warrior is stunned, before he can
re-group, Snuka does a body press. After leaving the ring, Rude does a neck breaker rolls for a pin, Warrior pushes out.
There was intense rivalary between the bulldogs, the islanders, and the hart foundation. I think a pay-perview with the roadwarriors and bulldogs would have brought elation and excitement to the wrestling world.
The worst thing to happen to wrestling was the extinction of W.C.W and E.C.W.
E.C.W. had pulse pounding suspense, and awesome matches and personalities. It just suffered from poor promotion and bad management.
Shane Douglas, and Raven brought a raw passion and intensity.
Name a current tag team that could compete with the likes of anderson-blanchard, the road warriors, the steiner brothers, the killer bees, the freebirds, the midnight express.
Or The British Bulldogs, Shiek-volkoff, Windham and rotundo, hall and henning, the rock and roll express, the rockers, the powers of pain, orndorff and piper, snuka and steamboat.
The x-division singles in tna is awesome, but the tag team scene as a whole is rigid and boring.
I think Power and Glory could take out majority of today's *top* tag-teams without much of a sweat, and P&G was barely a tier-three duo. I'd even be so bold as to say the Strike Force (Santana and Martel) could mop the floor with today's top tag-teams.
Back the then SNME was must see tv because you had the who's who of the WWF in action. It was special because PPV wasn't a big commodity. When you saw in TV Guide "Tonight, Hulk Hogan will battle (insert heel)" or "Macho Man will seek vengeance against the Honky Tonk Man", you ran to the TV set and clicked the remote to NBC.
Today when people see John Cena or these other clowns in action, the only clicks you get are people clicking away from NBC in droves.
Virtually ever star in the intro was an established star with the same gimmick in another territory before they worked for Vince. When was it that Vince became this genius who invented all these great orignal characters? Seriously. He was a great business man in NYC who established the WWF name and logo into an international brand name, but when did he become a great creative guy without other people's wrestlers? He was Bischoff before Bischoff. Now he is the new Verne Gagne.
they don't have the characters today like they did back in the day--they just don't -- the generation of wrestling was in the 80's to early 90's and this generation is not what it was--you had tag teams, managers, personalities, and long reigning champions--the wrestling was better too--men wrestled--these guys don't--its boring--
this song is cool man. i tell u nothing beat the 80s. 2day songs are good to but the 80s r way better. 1980s will forever be in my heart, for me 80s will never ever die
As a wrestling fan growing up in the 80's, I remember going to bed early to wake up at 11:30 to watch the Main Event. Back then, just seeing the Superstars facing each other instead of jobbers was a big deal. Every time I hear this song, I still get goosebumps.
The Best Wrestling EVER right here! Good Stuff. Good Times. I never missed a Saturday Night's Main Event in the 80s. I stayed my ass up all night till 11:30 pm even if i had to put toothpick between my tired & dreary eyes to keep them open. I live for wrestling at this time. I can't say the same for wrestling today. I haven't watched wrestling in over 5 years. I feel the magic is gone.

I was just saying the same thing on a video of the 2nd theme. You're right it was very very disapointing that none of the theme songs were on it.

Ahh, "Obsession" by Animotion. This was one of my favorite songs as a kid, really miss it being the SNME theme.

Pounds Earthquake and Rude.

Don't make it so difficult Journeymen. (HA!)

As a wrestling fan growing up in the 80's, I remember going to bed early to wake up at 11:30 to watch the Main Event. Back then, just seeing the Superstars facing each other instead of jobbers was a big deal. Every time I hear this song, I still get goosebumps.

Keep dreaming. That's never going to happen. They would have to pay music royalties just to use the song.

Yeah, I haven't watched in about 9-10yrs, I'd say is when I lost the love.
