when sliders are babies, it's hard to tell. However, when they are 1 years older or more, males will grow noticeably longer nails and will have a bigger tail. Female sliders also tend to outgrow males in terms of body size.
actually my turtle was sick for a while, but luckily i nursed him back to health. he had some respiratory issue (made wheezing noises and sneezed) and all i had to do was keep the water warm and made sure he wasn't stressing out from the habitat
cuz this happened 2 one of mine a few mnths ago n it wernt eatin n couldnt swim n eventually it died. bt now i have read up propally n there are loads of people who seem to have the same problems. but my other one is really healthy.
funny thing is hen the turtle gets bigger the eyes kind of shrink to fit the body lol jsut make sure u use the conditioner for the water and their eyes wont be puffy from the chlorine
Your turtle needs vitamin A drops for his eyes. Also you should check that your light source puts off both UVB and AVA rays and not just one or the other. Your lighting looks rather dimm.

2) That turtle was bought with irritated eyes, probably from dirty water
3) He recovered within 2 weeks without the need of a vet.
