Forget about Alpha Centauri 2, in this dumbed down multi-format market it will be nothing on this original. Just look at Civ 4! So put your energies into playing this game, it'll keep you entertained for the rest of your life and is the pinnacle of strategy gaming for people with brains!
Well there kind of has, If you count Alien Crossfire. But I agree there should be a complete revamp of it to match with the current gaming generation.
I see it as the acme of the strategy genre, of an era (Dune 2, C&C, Civilization 2, Total Annihilation). When I played civ3 and later civ4, I enjoyed them but I never see that level of deepness, customization and atmosphere of this title.
I've never seen any other game with so much convincing depth in academic predicting how our society and science can shape in the future.
Because there is quite a lot of quotes from past big thinkers so game feels like naturally and accurately extending whose ideas and our current knowledge.
Every aspect of this games was great. The whole concept, music, actor's voices. Even the graphics I hold in higher esteem than Civ IV's. This game's still a landmark, why oh why must we have CIV on console instead of a decent pc remake of this clasic? Colonization is such another why oh why.
I have yet to come across a game that has sucked up more of my waking hours than this one. Bravo, I say. Every time I uninstall it I end up reinstalling it because I feel the urge to play it shortly thereafter. I think it'd be cool if it were re-created with modern graphics, but everything else the same. Still is the greatest game of all time though.
In addition, I would have liked to see what the game was like prior to its release... Judging from 0:33-0:34 the interface, map, and units (one looks like a crawler with a quantum laser attached, and the other a foil with a gattling laser and neutronium armor)all look way different.
i played this looong ago, now i bought it again O.o I NEED THIS GAME xD

1 question. WTF has there been no Alpha centauri 2???
nathanhail 2 years ago 23
Firaxis doesn't own the rights to it
Soda7777777 2 years ago
Currently EA owns the rights to Alpha Centuari, which is a bummer, to say the least.

was this game really any good? How does it compare to Master of Orion 2? That game was great...
hardr0ck 3 years ago
No comparison.
Those are two completely different strategy-games, but both of them are great.
If you liked civiliztion, you will love AC because it's much deeper than the CIV ever could be.
Great quotes an superb atmosphere, it's simply unforgetable!

Because the destroyer of worlds (also known as EA) is sitting tight on the rights to the title. :(
