rap is the worst thing that has happened to music, and I used to like it. It makes people not focus enough on making new music with real instruments. People are too lazy on their instruments these days. Try harder, and be gods.
@TheRealCritique But there is still good Hip Hop around these days, and there are also hip hop bands around that still play instruments during there live acts!

I was there in the audience and the smiths played "PANIC", so where is it on youtube???, it was a great version with Morrissey having simulated sex with a 12 year old boy?, perhaps thats why it doesn't appear here...EDDY
Wonderful video, although I don't understand why to like an artist means you have to obnoxiously and creepily mimic him in every way (I'm talking to you, Swaying on Stage with Your Jacket Hanging Off Guy).
Hi AlexandriaM. I totally agree with you. Coming over to your Country in 4 weeks time - NYC to be precise. Taking in Keane in Central Park on 30th May while there. I shall be keeping well away from the Stage I promise.
Yes one of those knobheads was me. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Now I just look at it and cringe. On the up side MJ gave me his Sheila T Shirt so not all bad. Still my most prized possession.
I also remember it well - i think its as funny as fuck ! I am from newcastle and i went out with a girl in the early 90's and she has a friend who said one of you two was her brother (presume you still are)Cannot remember the sisters name but the girl i went out with was called nicola sutton - does that ring any bells ? anyway - you should be proud of your youthful indiscretion - it was there last uk tv appearance i believe and you will always be there .. lookin like a knobhead - nice one !
Hello aje2103. Yes I remember Nicola Sutton, her friend was Emma who was my mate Damiens Sister. I'm Glad you enjoyed it, or should I say that it made you laugh.
I am 'The Jacket Man'...and yes, it was my Dad's. Funny thing about it was it was them who actually got us in - and that's the thanks they got!! Johnny = Cool Guy.
the years have certainly been kinder to him than to Moz ! I too shared a stage with Moz - two years ago at the city hall - I really am old enough to know better !!
Quality - I would have seen you then as I was at that gig. Didn't bother with the Arena one recently - Arena is pap. Did you used to go to the Riverside Club - I went to see King Kurt there the first week it opened (1985 I think!) - this is still the best gig I have been to.
i reckon you are a couple of years older than me - i am 37 , so in 85 i was too young for the riverside. I went to see a psychobilly band there in about 87 cos i had a few mates from cramlington who were into that stuff (they might have been called Sinful ) Arena gig was better than the sage one - i saw moz 9 times last year including amsterdam and rome - the fucker won't stop following me around ! i work in hmv in town - if you're in say hello ! tony
Yes the dreaded Four 0. God you must really like the old misery guts. I must admit I was more Smiths than Moz. Prob saw them somewhere near 20 times including City Hall 85' and Mayfair 86' and an appearance on Eurotube - much better than the Sheila / Shoplifters one. You may be able to find it on this site. Did you go to the free concert at Wolverhampton? Will pop in to HMV next time in Town - I'm sure I must know you already. Carl
You're all so lucky... It's really cool hearing your discussions about seeing all these Smiths gigs... 20 years later I still love their music as much as ever. I almost got to to see 'em in Northern California in 1985 but being twelve years-old, I was out of luck when my ride fell through... Love and respect to Johnny Marr for all of the beautiful music.
Hello again ellycat. Yes, Johnny is a cool guy. Have you seen the Whistle Test Meat is Murder piece? Also, Whistle Test - Vicar in a Tutu was possibly one of the best ever.
Hello mate. I've seen the Vicar In a Tutu on the Whistle Test, but I don't think I've seen the Meat is Murder piece. I'll go and take a search, now. I'm still into Moz by the way. His new album is out in a couple of weeks. It's pretty good on first listening. I'm waiting for my autographed copy. Take care..
i agree that the whistle test appearance was their best tv performance - bigmouth was brilliant ! and andy kershaws comments before introducing them have always been my perfect summary of "the truly great british band of the 1980's" just been to see moz this month 3 times - and it was good .. but not great !
I was referring to the removal of the fan from the stage. One of the purported idiosyncrasies of the band (why am I writing like Stephen Fry??)... Start again - The Smiths used to let everyone on the stage, that's what I meant. :)
The Smiths are the best!

Another classic from a classic band. I love how Morrissey wears the Smiths T-Shirt so arrogantly amazing.

Did you see Johnny Marr tell security to get you off the stage? He did let you stay on there for a pretty long time, though.

Ahhh, gotcha ya. What a band. Going to try a ticket outside the Manchester Apollo in May for the Morrissey gig.

On a clearer version of this clip (at 46 seconds)you can see Marr say "get em off" to the stage hand, referring to the two guys dancing. Hehe.

Yeah I remember that. At least he let 'em stay on for that long. Tee hee. Mozzer wasn't bothered though was he?

He didn't looked fussed.
