  • Good news: McCartney finally got his Hollywood star.

  • Oh i was giving info on english tea.... but i didnt know this was in 67 haha

  • Its by paul later after the beatles once he went solo

  • @rkalcocer11 This is a Beatles song, written by Paul in 1967.

  • Can you do a tutorial on "English Tea" chaos and creation in the backyard album? cant find a good lesson on it....

  • pianojohn, your playing is impeccable, but I must ask, in view of your comment that Penny Lane "really isn't a piano song," what instrument do you think this song was originally composed on? I personally can't "hear it" composed on a guitar, so it must have been a piano. Thoughts?

  • @KUTVgroucho That's a great question, and I'm not really sure what it might have been done on originally. I suppose the piano may have been used to lay out the chords, but I've never seen another piano arrangement of the song, so I can't be sure. Alan Pollack noted that George Martin helped by adding flutes, brass, a piccolo, a bass fiddle, a fire bell, voices that mimic sirens, oboes, and overdubbed keyboard parts, but what the original sound was remains a mystery, at least to me!

  • @pianojohn113 i'm very confused by this because there is clearly piano on the song... You can hear it throughout the entire song. It's just a little drowned out at points cos of all the other instruments. so seeing as there is piano in this song, it shouldn't be a mystery. i'm guessing it was written on the piano. plus Paul wrote most of his songs on the piano. even the oldies that weren't record or performed on a piano.

  • @queerp You could be right. I don't really hear the piano part specifically, but I would imagine there is some somewhere, and it's entirely possible that Paul wrote it on the piano as well. I'll have to look up the history of the song and verify, I guess.

  • Has aanyone ever told you sound just like Tom Lehrer when you speak?

  • @procrustesuk No, but I'm honored if I do!

  • Organic, mature, musical... and accesible, thak you very much! INTACTO

  • @kerriesoepp I'm not sure what you mean..

  • @pianojohn113 hahaha...I think kerriesoepp means justplay the melody on the right hand, without chords. Like, left hand playing left hand part, with right hand playing just the melody...

  • @RosyMe180 Ah, okay.. got it now.

  • Hey John love these vids...since I'm relitivly inexperienced at piano (I'm self taught) most piano music is a challenge for me, but your tutorials do help tremendously and I've become a much better pianist because of them...btw how did you learn all these songs anyway? Was it by ear Or someother way?

  • piano john, I feel you are one of the greatest teachers I've encountered in my life time... but alas, it is sad for you're only on the internet. I love you man, keep up the good work!

  • you bring the joy of piano playing to so many people around the world and I thank you for that. I am currently up to date with all your lessons and was wondering if you take requests. I think you would do a great job on Elton Johns Honky Cat and Take me to the pilot. thanks again.
