I have been a fan of Nina's since the 60's. I love this song, but my favorite is " You Can Have Him." Lots of feeling on that one. Some talent! Whatever the magnitude of demons that tormented this life, one thing is certain: We've captured her on tape for generations to enjoy,appreciate and admire. Can you replace the Mona Lisa or even try to duplicate good cheesecake? It'll never happen. Nina lives!

I agree that this version is the definitive version. Yes, the original is from 1930 and I have but this one got THE feeling and the piano timing is PERFECT. Remember she was trained classical.

@antstock13 Instead of insulting me, maybe you could read a little, I recommend the book by David Brun-Lambert (sorry, no photos) and the autobiography written by Nina Simone called "Ne Me Quitte Pas." In the first one she expresses her hatred for that song, and I think also in the second one she said the same.

This TV appearance is one of the rare times she ever sang it in public - she maybe was contractually obliged to do it that night - it certainly looks as thougfh she is being deliberately miserable to make a point

@DJEvsE There are several issues other than the piano timing. There are certain areas where the vocals are late as well. The issue IMO has to do with the video being out of sync with the audio which is a technical issue unrelated to the original broadcast or film. This is a common issue with video especially when it's been converted to other video formats such as mpg being converted to FLV or wmv. Conversion can cause sync issues that wasn't in the original file.

First, she is a superb performer..but, I believe she is miming. at 38 seconds you can hear her foot tapping the beat but her legs don't move and at 2min46 watch when she lifts her hands off the keyboard after striking one chord two chords are played.
