Just one additional viewpoint to what has been said. It is not only beiing a celebrity. These are people that we get to know in some way. Whether through their movies, news or personal appearances. Also in Natasha's case, it involved the renowned Redgrave family and Liam Neisome (sp) whom become after several years of following their careers part of our culture. Of course we are curious as to any event that may affect them.
@mvies77 What you said up there... doesn't show that you know what a celebrity is.
A celebrity is someone who has so much media coverage on him/her that you really don't know what they're like in real life. Just because you "know" them from movies and news and stuff, doesn't mean anything. I know Britney Spears.. through the news... she's crazy. But in real life, she's probably partially insane as a result of the invasive media that sticks their noses everywhere.
@AWDracer You do not understand what I was saying at all. I will not repeat it. Either you get it or you do not. Criticize someone else. What you are saying shows that you do not understand caring.
@mvies77 I DO get it, that's the point. People are basically the same regardless if they're celebrity or not. The only difference is that neither one of us is famous enough to be scrutinized. Think about it. If you make some on-camera squip about one person, a bunch of fans are not gonna take that into context and will say "WOW what an asshole that person is". Also, someone who's nice on camera is not necessarily a nice person IRL.
@mvies77 If I don't understand caring, according to your standards, then you're clearly OVERcaring. Sure she's a celebrity and all but the bottom line is, she's still human. If any other person died in the same exact same manner, that person's significance in the overall world (it may be very significant but unknown) would be overshadowed (and not reported in some cases) by other celebrity deaths that might have happened that day.
@AWDracer NO, you still do not get what I was saying and have gone off on your own tirade. Get a life and freak out with someone else. I will not respond further and frankly you are scary and creepy to basically write a thesis on the sad death of a famous person because of an additional comment among others as to why we might care. Of couse we do not really know them. No one said that. Did you see the "some way"? Whether rep, feeling, personal, news, etc. Knowing has many facets.
@AWDracer I was talking about why we care whether it is right or wrong. Whether it is based on whom they really are or not. We know much more about her and her family connections than an ordinary citizen that we never heard about. So if course we are more curious and feel more connected. Again, whether right or wrong. How is my thesis coming? Enough now, for Pete sake!
@mvies77 Let me put it to you this way - if someone close to you, as in someone you PERSONALLY knew (as in talking to them everyday) had suddenly died, would a celebrity's death be more important? or that close loved one? If you can't understand this, then you'll never understand why I'm babbling about this.
I'm keeping deaths in perspective. A death is a death, celebrity or not. It's a traumatic event. Surely we'll agree on this last point?
@mvies77 You can't judge a celebrity from movies, news reports, and other media sources to say how nice a person is. Truth is, everything you do (if you're a celebrity) is exaggerated. You say one thing, and someone is gonna perceive you to be a mean person. If you do one nice thing, you'll be the greatest saint that ever lived.
Wow....I just re-read my post from 2 months ago and it is a damn good one...and I didn't get any points for it! It made a lot of sense too! I was sharp that day aI posted that comment.
the bad thing though, if they reported a mexican that died in mexico surfing some sand dunes, stupid ignorant fatass americans would just be like "this shit isnt newsworthy blah blah"
but when its the rich whtie lady thats been in a ton of c grade movies, everyone feels so sympathetic.
But, I think you'd find that a big number of Americans WOULD care if someone passed; no matter who it was. The media portrays the US to be ignorant fat asses.
If it was a Mexican that no one heard of you are right. it wouldn't be in the news. If it were a non-famous white persson we wouldn't have heard of it either. Natasha Richardson was famous. Just because she wasn't in PEOPLE Magazine every week, or THE STAR didn't mean she wasn't well-known....she and her family led a quite life and were supposedly lovely people....it's not a race thing. If something happens to Salma Hayek or Jennifer Lopez. we will hear about it. No sarcasm meant at all.
Why is this more "news" than some no-name suffering a similar accident in the same region? We already know she's a celebrity therefore, that puts her in a heirarchy class above average people and I don't think anyone can argue against that fact.
I see what you mean but she was famous, so of course it's going to be in the news. I really feel Dev07 doesn't like white people and is a bit angry. I'm white and if I hit my head skiing it wouldn't have the news coverage because I'm not known throughout the world. I really didn't understand Dev07 comment...to me it was anger-fueled. But I appreciate your comment!
I so agree....lol...call me a goody-goody, but it gets me upset when I see people being really cruel and nasty to one another on YOUTUBE. When someone disagrees with me that's great, and most people do it in a way that is so kind, but then others....OH VEY! I'm a lover not a fighter...lol..know what I mean? Thanks so much...all the best to you!
damn when did that happen

She must of really hit her head hard. It's unfortunate that she waited so long to get help. ( nearly 4 hrs) With a head injury every minute counts.
