Lincoln your balance must be exceptional good, horse riding, surfing, skateboarding and climbing etc. all you do excellent and that in combination with your cool and clear way of teaching is candy for my brain.
Great job on the video, Linc. Very informational. Just curious, LOL, when you finished filming this video, did you "glue" the last part of the handle back onto the shovel? Thanks for sharing with me. I enjoyed it. Love and Hugs, Monica
@rickysgirl330 I did not glue it back on--I figured I needed a spare in case the horn of the saddle itself fell off. You see, then I'd glue the shovel end in place of the horn ; )
@CalgaryAlpineStyle That is all exceptionally well stated. I appreciate you pointing all of this out. Balance indeed is important for safety not just in equestrian sports, but mountain sports, and all sports for that matter. Thank you!
Linc, these are more important tips than perhaps many folks out there can appreciate.
I've taken an Outdoors Safety Course, and the instructor, who is a paramedic as well, told us that in the mountaineering environment the highest rate of mortality
at least in our area near the Rockies, is caused by falling off horses, and hitting
rocks, or trees and having neck or heads broken which ultimately can cause the death of the rider. Teaching techniques about how to keep yourself in balance
Link, you are such a great , easy undertstanding and explaning teacher, excellent instruction video and inspiration pure. This I`ll try tomorrow but .... without video filming. Have a great weekend and many thanks for sharing. Greetings//Regina
your intructions are very clear some wonderful advice & tips thanks again my friend, seen a lot of my friends think they know all there is to know, but there more to this than they realise..my best wishes always have a wonderful wednesday Ann:)
@glamorgangirl Thanks Ann! Next time you see your friends riding, just see for yourself if they have these basic principles down. Often, they don't : ) But no worries, because many people just like to ride whichever way they want to and don't like to be bothered with things like proper technique.
@Jazzgirl8888 I am very delighted to have you in my channel box. You are always full of goodness and sweetness... with that added dash of jazz. Thank you for your kind words!
Oh and let me add here ...love the start of the video ...sitting in the chair ...then jump up and clap and then saying get out out there and start doing! ...and then the walk was soooo awesome... talk about a cowboyyyy walk!! That was it!! It was perfect to the music!! Great job on this one!! :)) Made the start interesting and get's your attention! :)
You are correct sir .. boots.need to be almost the tips ... I ride with my feet on the ball of them in the stirrup..the other reason why I do it is not only for balance ...and leaning forward if i need to ...but also to keep my foot free just incase....you don't want to get your boot caught in the sirrup if something happens and dragged... Too deep in and that could happen quicky to you..
Really nice video ...great info and I love the hat!! Cooool! :))
@jam2music Thank you! If you look at 1:45 and 3:48 you'll hear (and see) ball of the foot IS the correct position (as you also believe). In every clip I'm standing on the ball of the foot except where I'm talking about how some riders prefer "all in" or closer to tip toes. Because I have a long foot 11.5, it might appear that I'm not on the ball of my foot, however, I am indeed : ) Your point about not getting the boot stuck is an excellent one which I also discuss in an upcoming video.
@lonewolf13scott Thanks for being the first out of the gate with comments on this video and thank you for your vote of confidence. Greatly appreciated.

through following certain rules could be extrapolated to related fields in the activities
in the mountain areas.
Simply controlling your balance could save any hiker or scrambler or mountaineer,
from injuries, such as twisting an ankle, falling on sharp rocks or talus, scree, etc.
Besides, the proper use of balance during a descent could save your knees as well.
A lot of people develop knee problems (incurable at times) due to the lack of a proper use of balance and coordination during hikes.
