Slavery! The US can't compete in the manufacturing world any longer! They must drive wages down to the level of China in order to survive. It's not the unions fault, it's GLOBAL TRADE POLICY FAILURES!
I think everyone should check out Yellow Bear. It is a new video game coming out this Friday at NachoSoft(.)com and it will change the gaming world. It is going to offer game play for ALL SKILL LEVELS. The game is NEVER ENDING and it is very enjoyable. It is going to be priced very cheap (cheaper than one month of WoW) plus the site has a coupon for like 50% off which will make it dirt cheap. I suggest everyone go and give it a good look because it might be the best 'hidden gem' of 2009.
It takes longer to fix a blunder than to create it. But to be sure, most Americans recognize that Iraq was a mistake, including our current president. So we made a commitment to leave. It's a start.
And somehow the only nation who has demonstrated the capacity to use nukes offensively has more than anyone and nobody seems to care.
But my point was that Pakistan is, arguably, one of the most dangerous countries due to political instability, and North Korea is really more china's problem.
And I have more faith in China's ability to handle NK than I have in the US to handle the Pakistani situation.
You almost have a point. Putting aside the fact that we saved lives by dropping the bombs (25 Million expected casualties if we had invaded Japan instead of dropping the bomb), I think you have to look at who is targeted by Pakistan's and NK's bombs and those target countries' abilities to deal with the problem...
The difference is that Pakistan, while it has a great deal of unstable elements within the country, actually has much more stable *leadership* than N Korea, and that leadership participates in the international system. Pakistan may do things that we don't particularly like, but we can trust that Pakistan will do what is in its national interest, behave rationally, and follow the doctrine of MAD. With NK, we have no such guarantee, because Kim is crazy and NK is a failed state.
This is so ridicoilous, everyone who have spent any time studying the world knows that N. korea is totally harmless (China will not allow them), and they know that if they ever actually do something China will squash them like a bug. The co-denpendency between the US ( + u can say the western world) and China is so big nowadys that this should be and is the least of your (the US and the rest of the worlds) problems.
I don't think N. Korea is being viewed as a direct threat. The concern is over proliferation. As one of the poorest economies in the world, N. Korea could potentially be the bargain bin of missile technology.... or not.
..and what do you actually mean with that... are you actually going to control all the proliferation all over the world and consinstanty control the levels of arms in "unfriendly" places, but what about friendly? If we disregard the pretty obvious never achiveable nuclear goal, are contries not allowed to test rockets? satelites? excercises? which countries? wich countries control?
..and what do you actually mean with that... are you actually going to control all the proliferation all over the world and consinstanty control the levels of arms in "unfriendly" places, but what about friendly? If we disregard the pretty obvious never achiveable nuclear goal, are contries not allowed to test rockets? satelites? excercises? which countries? wich countries control? only democracies? anything to do with UN human rights record etc..
I'm not suggesting any kind of solution, mandate, judgment or otherwise... so "what I mean" doesn't aim to provide for any particular objective... I'm just saying...
I would like to point out that N. Korea is not totally harmless though; they've certainly wrecked havoc on their own population and abused humanitarian aid in epic ways. Just because their damage is in a bubble, does not mean it is not damage.
No, he's starting to look like Eraserhead. I feel sorry for they guy, having to do EVERYTHING in the Treasury Department, up to and including delivering his own mail from the mailroom, and sweeping the floors after everybody else goes home.
3star2nr, GM doesn't mind? One guy, the newly appointed CEO, doesn't mind the government "assistance".
Unless, of course, you have a poll of GM's workers, how they feel about having their tax dollars transferred from their wallet to the higher-ups, who are planning layoffs.
Which do the GM employees prefer, their tax dollars that they would have to pay anyway go back into the company to keep it afloat so they will be able to keep getting a paycheck at the end of the month. Or for the government to do nothing and let the company declare bankrupcy and fail and get nothing.
I dont know about you but 85% or worse case 75% of a salary is better than no salary at all. But I guess everyones priorities are different
As much as I dislike GM and the rest of the american car industry, I feel it for the workers.
Its not their fault why GM got to that point its the guys in charge. For too long they have been restricting innovation and product development all in the aim of maximising profits.
Engineers have been forced to work on increasingly tighter budgets and still churn out a competitive product. The result is they have had to cut materials costs, which reduces the reliability and build quality
Contrast this to the japs and the europeans, who encourage innovation.
In a free market economy a "decent" product wont sell. Not when you can get "good" or "excellent" for the same money.
The reviewers have been screaming at them for years, owners and enthusiasts have been saying the same damn thing, Its like they're deliberately not listening.
GM's response is the trick people with their "buy" american adds. Have powerful lobbyists in congress to fight out international companies.
nah boss its more than the unioin, GM outsources alot of jobs to Mexico, where they arent affected by unions. Whats hurting them IS THE LEADERSHIP.
Look at the qualifications necessary to become an engineer at toyota compared to the qualifications needed to become an engineer at GM. In Japan they hire kids fresh out of college. Here you need 10-20 years experience to even be considered. How are you going to be innovative, if your hiring old people to work for u?
Why is it that the average labor cost to build a GM car is about $4,500 per car but only $1,750 per car for Toyota? LABOR UNIONS and their defined benefit retirement plans.
GM is still giving paycheck to retirees - just like Ford and Chrysler. Toyota, on the other hand, is modern and innovative enough to have a defined contribution retirement plan rather than those 19th-Century defined benefit plans the UAW foisted upon GM, Ford and Chrysler.
There is a reason why they're running the same technology from the 1950s.
They have the capability to innovate. But they dont want to spend the money on R&D, and develop a good product. They rather put the money in their pockets.
Dont believe me that there is a quality difference, check out a Dodge neon or any saturn and then drive a civic or a toyota. The difference in quality is night and day.
Reviewers have been screaming this customers also. Their response is to blame the workers.
GM is leading the innovative curve on electric and fuel-cell cars and somehow they're still running on 1950's tech?
You're either crazy or ignorant.
I have a Dodge Neon, been driving it for 5 1/2 years now, and would rather have that than a Civic or Corolla. Its been extremely reliable and the few time I did have a problem, it was a cheap and easy problem - NOT like a Civic, which NEVER has a cheap or easy problem.
Geithner is a wallstreet guy. He never accomplished anything and as a reward he kept getting promoted. Him and Obama condem the action of wallstreet, call it greed, but bail them out at the same time. They are accomplices. We are not all in this together. The companies that blew cash should be held accountable and go bankrupt. How can we tell our kids whats right anymore when they witness this. We need to regain freedom and liberty. Lets end the Fed and reestablish the republic!!!
That sounds really good in theory, and i'm sure if it could be done, i believe that Obama would do it. However, if some of these institutions fail, the financial system will indeed collapse. The financial system is not all bad, and allowing it to collapse will hurt even people who were innocent in all this.
What you're saying sounds so good in theory, but like many things in life, it's a little more complicated than that.
What is Stabenow taking about. 1st chance- running GM into the ground. 2nd- one government handout. 3rd- second government handout. That puts the big three on their fourth chance which may be bankruptcy.
Bush a statesmen? Did anyone else throw up just a little when he said it? But I agree. Bush and Condi have been classy since leaving office.
Really? So we're still occupying Denmark, Germany, France, Italy and all those other European countries that we liberated last century?
Get real! The only reason you get to be comfortable is because you depend on us for your protection. Denmark couldn't hold it's own if it weren't for your big friend over here.

Tell me, why is it Toyota can build similar cars that cost less money to buy?
Because Toyota is non-unionand the labor costs are dratically less even though Toyota pays, on average, more per hour?
The unions are killing GM, Ford and Chrysler, not the leadership.
GM has more, high MPG cars than any other manufacturer and is farther along the electric car development than anyone else.
GM is cutting edge.
The UAW is killing them.
