Turns out the solution to this was to disable the Windows Media Center navigation sounds (all the tones you hear when moving around the menus), all worked fine after that.
Hey I had this same error on a laptop I was setting up. Turned out that I did not have the driver for the video card installed. I had just installed Windows 7 on the laptop. Check to make sure you have correct/up to date video drivers installed. Worked for me.
PS: wish I had the Ceton infinitv4 card but I think I will wait for the HDHomeRun Prime.
