  • Man this guy is like a reincarnation Art Of Noise!

  • That one person must work in the government.

  • guru in the last jazzmataz, , hooooo my god guru rest in peace!!

  • thank you

  • How 'bout that mean little solo by Eric Gale?

  • thx for the great post my friend.

but guru or primo did a better one with that.

but this is still the bomb.

    thx man

  • @GFunkIsHere2Stay No way, original jazz tracks are inherently richer in harmony and musical expansiveness than hip hop. Very rarely is hip hop better than legitimate jazz.

  • a warm summer night on the lawn at the rencen detroit, great show!

  • OHHHH FOR HAVEN SAKE HOW LONG HAS BEING SINCE THE LAST TIME I HEARD SOMETING OF BOB JAMES!! I HATE MYSELF FOR IT !!!!

Thank you for posting this !!!!!!!!!

  • so this is where the beat for clarity(common and guru) came from

  • who was the sax player ??

  • @MrQmason

I think it was Grover Washington Jr. He did some work with Mr. James back then.

  • @chuckiet22

I stand corrected - it was David Sanborn! Awesome.

  • @MrQmason That's definitely the late Grover Washington, Jr. He has a distinctive way of playing the sax as opposed to David Sanborn,

  • @charlestonchewy I agree that Grover has a distinctive tone, *along with* Sanborn. both have tones as distinct as their speaking voices. However, this to me sounds like Sanborn on alto. Too, Grover played tenor and sop. most of the time.

  • saw bob james with keiku matsui, playing soft, romantic songs, saw him with four play playing out of this world funk...just masterful

  • mic germino who ever u are sampled this

  • Pure perfection. Cheers!

  • truly amazin

  • for some reason this reminds me of lupin the III

  • love it ,love it!!! many thanks!!!

  • @newskooltrooper And whatever you are has been sampled by Moby in his track "Jam for the Ladies" :3

  • This could be released today and it would be a HIT. I see myself with this playing in the backgound making statements like "I don't drink beer often, but when I do..." Timeless! Go Get Um Ray!

  • guru -state of clarity

  • @bizzybonemusic

    state of clarity-guru

  • this is nightmare on my street. jazzy jeff and the fresh prince.. back when it was ahight ta like dem.

  • yeah.... i remember listening to this tune when i was probably 11, an awesome tune from my father's music collection.

  • Bob James is a Bad Boy but he can't fuck with Rohnny Jordan, Grover Washington, Roy Ayers, & Rick Holmes.

  • Mic geronimo wherever you at wherever you are

  • clarity, be yourself.

state of clarity did this song justice

  • @bizzybonemusic Yeah it was in State Of Clarity by Guru and Common

  • @bizzybonemusic I don't know exactly of this song but Bob James may be the unknown king of being sampled.

  • mc 8 growin up in the hood menace to society @ 1:52

  • Man my dad used to jam this one when I was a kid. I was like 12 when this came out and I loved it. It still kicks. Bob James is in a class by himself!!!

  • Bob JAMES is a mean keybroad player big lou

  • There is someone who missed the "thumb up" button.

  • that mothership funk....forever....."teach the children, save the nation"........yesterday better than today,anyday.....it was original thoughts vs. todays robots......fuckn digi. world is takin over slowly, some of us still holdn tight though.....damn

  • I'm just listening and groovin' on this magical musical journey! Damn this here is hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • When the quiet storm was real good. This is music people, the real deal Kayne...are you listening to it?

  • Still loving it after over 30 years......

  • This was the best cut on Heads! I used to jam to this when I was a tender 12 years of age...Ahh...those were the days. Thanks for the great post!

  • i was wondering if you could please upload where the wind blows free from his 4 album

    thanks

  • He lost me after "H". Anyone else?

  • @chocotacojewboy yeah, "H" was a dog. "Sign of the times" had it's moments, and "Joy Ride" was passable, but overall his stuff that he put out after "Lucky Seven" was subpar compared to the records that he did on the Tappan Zee label.

  • @chocotacojewboy u got that right even "H" was so so

  • Awesome track, this intro plays when I emerge from a foggy street

  • Absolute classic. remember this from the 70's, real gem. Thanks Bob James

  • Finally, I found Night Crawler ... I cannot believe it. I have been searching for Night Crawler for probably fifteen, yeah, fifteen years! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS. OMG thank you so much for this fabulous post. One of my all time favorites! You just made my day!

  • @gva0917 It's been out on CD for 15 years.

  • @chocotacojewboy So it has been out there the entire time I have been looking for it - amazing! Thank you for the information; I REALLY appreciate it.

  • @gva0917 When you think I found this LP for ONE euro, and it was laying there o the sidewalk, waiting for a certain death, with the next rain. I admit it is one of my favourites albums.

  • @oliverecords That is absolutely amazing. I don't believe in coincidences so it can only mean you were definitely MEANT to save the LP from obscurity. I am so glad you were there as this is an absolute treasure, no question about it. Thank you so much.

  • @gva0917 Yeah, good news men! Enjoy it and thanks 4 all ya' people! GOOD MUSIC 4 LIFE…

  • @gva0917 its funny how a song can make someone happy , funny and so goood have a good day!

  • Remember this from 1978. Mindblowing!

  • MIC GERONIMO got this sample too on this first album, peace!

  • What's with all this "sampling" garbage? Can't anybody think up their own stuff anymore?

  • i see it as a tribute more than anything...

  • @Lugnut64052 lol, i understand were you're coming from. sampling can be a very beautiful form in music (if done right). just like jazz. think of it as a piece of collage art

  • sampled by HIFI BANDA - FAKTY LUDZIE PIENIADZE

    btw. /watch?v=JFxA8hUDu-U

  • sampled by al p- cuz im a mac off of the platinum white records compilation

  • Why have I stopped listening to the radio? "Smooth Jazz"? ...and how David Sanborn comes in...whew!

  • sampled by guru

  • @marheineken1990 well....guru WAS the MC....premier is the one who sampled it...

    RIP Guru

  • @invectrum wrong, state of clarity was on the GURU's jazzmatazz-series.Also I aint even sure, that it was taken usage of the technique named sampling...

  • @mindtravelo well either way u made it sound like guru sampled it...hes not a producer of course...so yeah, thats why i said that

  • @invectrum no prem involved...

  • @mindtravelo oh i didnt know that, but I do know that guru doesnt make beats thats what i meant in the first place but yeah, sick beat either way, one of the best mcs ever too

  • This Bob James track is so smooth and funky, this is just quite simply, an outstanding contemporary jazz piece from the 70's, hands down!!
