Doctors must learn not to cut. People must eat healthy to be and stay healthy forever. The root of all evil are carbs! Eat saturated animal fats, no carbs. You maybe become 150 years old. ;-)
...that typifies many college kids now days. I personally love to socialize and enjoy other activities other than studying; however, my principal goal in life is to learn as much as possible and I design various ways to increase my memory and understanding of scientific issues. In addition, I would so love to see my knowledge have a positive impact on humanity before I pass, and what other engine could fulfill this goal than medical school? So why reject smart people on illegitimate grounds?
"if you don't put yourself in that position, you may never know you want to be a neurosurgeon" (paraphrasing) - a really good point there. Your videos are fantastic. Keep up the good work.
Changing your studding environment is a really good way to help, I frequently will change my involvement I think it helps me retain information more easily. Learned that with my psychology teacher frosh year of high school. =]
This guy has a wonderful decorum, very professional , for the medical profession. He will be a blessing to mankind. May God ever bless him to use his talents and skills to help the poor and needy.
Wow thank you so much! That was a very interesting and helpful video. I'm entering med school in September and I definitely plan on trying your tips :)
i think your great, im in medicine and i always procrastinating with going out to play basketball or go onto the computer aswell, but lately ive really changed myself around, everyone has a period where they dont revise and just hate themselves for not revising but everyone will get over it sooner or later, i have ADD aswell so it was very difficult for me to sit down and just revise because i dont take medication for it either. so props to me :P
Hi, I'm a 3rd year medical student in NYC. I really like the videos you've posted about med school and appreciate you sharing your advice. Currently I'm going though a really rough time regarding school. I am just having a difficult time with the material and just been feeling lost ever since my first year. So I'm just wondering, how do you deal with hard times in med school? Do you ever have moments when u question, "can I do this? can I really learn ALL this and become competent?"

@maiofsummer hi! did i get a chance to answer your question through my e-mail account? (unitedstatesmedicalstudent@gmail.com). i hope you are hanging in there -- 3rd year medical school is the toughest of them all because of all of the uncertainty. i think being kind to others, talking to friends and family -- that's how i got by in third year. but more importantly, know that most of my 3rd year med student friends had a tough time -- they are loving residency now though, so hang in there!
Thank you so much! I'm not even in college yet, but your last bit about studying totally helped me! I loved the rest of your video as well seeing as I'm a med school hopeful :). But again thanks so much, and I hope you're successful in your future endeavors!
Ah, you're getting some insight into the world of trauma and loss. I hope you really take your time. I can only imagine some of the things that have crept into your brain. Seeing some of the things you've seen must be very hard, you're facing reality head on. You're seeing how fragile we really are.
Don't let it weigh you down, let it help build you. It'll make you the best doctor only you can be, in whatever field you specialize under.
@BaseAndAcid not quite sure... most of my friends in medical school who are guys and under 26 are still single... most of the guys over 26 are in a relationship or married...
Please keep the study tips coming. I always liked studying in restos and subways and my mom thought I was a performer or something. But it really was the hustle and bustle that helps. It does work!
Hi Jeff - Did you take down any of your videos recently? I was trying to find the one where you went to Peking University. Thanks, and happy holidays!
you know... most asian parents dont like to talk about "death"
pulsing brain! that's interesting. I have only seen dead brain in autopsy and from a cadaver.
I agree with you. I usually go to bed early and wake up early to study too! In the weekend, it's just pretty unproductive for me. It's easy to get distracted; it's better to develop & keep a good study habit.
While im still in college, I'm volunteering at my hospital's ER, and I just recently witnessed my first death. A quick, but painful one. It's weird how I felt nothing.
@ohaierick You felt something, you just haven't reflected on it yet. Give it time and get more experience, but that instance will stay with you. If you can handle it after a while then you'll know where a good career is for you.
@rctriplefresh5 yeah i guess i did. I guess I meant to type "you are distracting me from my video" by halfway through I changed my mind to "your video is distracting me." ha.
1) have discussion about making difficult medical decisions
2) create memories for loved ones
3) ask about unique life experiences
and really interesting info about neurosurgery, and study tips, im the worst student, i never ask for help, but studying on the train? that sounds fun :)
Be honest, were you a bit surprised when you saw all the surgical procedures done?
I found that I study better at night, which isn't quite healthy but thats just when the studying mood kicks in. Contrary to what people think, I think studying outside a comfort zone like your room keeps you more focused because you're not quite likely to kick back and read or watch something.
Thank you for your informative videos. I think you are in a position to answer a question: I hear that med schools are known for rejecting smart students on the grounds that they are not "well-rounded" and studied too much rather than engage in social activities to complement their studying. Is this an urban legend spread by kids, or does it have some validity? I think this is strange considering that real science takes time and some people do not like drama....

I study well on the bus and other noisy places too because all the sounds just fade away. I really don't like quiet places either.
thanks for the tips on studying!!! I'm going to try to identify my pattern
