Sarcasm aside, most of these aren't very good mana investments, especially because they can destroy it in response to leveling. Figure of Destiny (from Eventide) is also very similar to these cards, so they aren't completely new. FoD is better because it can reactivate its ability in response and can 'level' at EOT.
SELFDUSTRUCT: 3 (when this creature is selfdustructed the power of the creature is damaged on all other creatures and players and this card is destroted)
They released levelers too late they are out of place with the giant eldrazi. My question is will the continue both in the next release or will there only be levelers in the next one?
How many times can you level up a creature in a turn?
Also, how many times can a creature regenerate? i know they can only do it once a turn but if they regenerate one turn, can they do so again next turn?
@sircaballero You can Level Up as many times as you can in your turn. As long as you have the mana for it, you aren't limited to just one Level Up. Just remember the timing restrictions of the Sorcery and you're set.
@sircaballero A permanent can be regenerated as many times as you can make it happen. Some creatures have activated abilities with no tapping required that lets you regenerate as often as you like. Each time to activate a regeneration effect, the permanent gets a "regeneration shield" that is consumed when the permanent would be destroyed. Just like Totem Armor, only a single regeneration shield is consumed for each destroy effect.
@PrimeSonicYT Not true; the Regeneration ability can be activated infinite times, but taps the creature on use, so only once per untap; so you can only regenerate 2+ times a turn if the creature untaps through some means
@gmonwowserver Regeneration doesn't care if the permanent it regenerates is tapped or untapped. What I was referring to was permanents (mostly creatures) with an ability like {1}{G}: Regenerate [this creature], as opposed to {T}: Regenerate [this creature]. See it now? Of course you can put up as many regeneration shields as you mana can make, given the right ability. Plus, regeneration only taps the permanent when it's actually regenerated. You can put up a shield, never use it, and not tap.
@PrimeSonicYT that WOULD work; if it actually DID put up a 'shield'... but you use it when it WOULD be destroyed, to tap and remove from combat/remove damage...
@gmonwowserver Remember, combat damage doesn't use the stack anymore. You would have to activate the effect even before you knew if your permanent would be destroyed by combat damage or not.
The levelers are meant for Limited. They're a bomb in booster draft when nobody has any removal to get rid of them, since you can sink what would usually be unusable mana into them to quickly turn them into powerhouses. In Constructed, you're still better off using creatures that give you more for your mana.
Man, according to Google's new "Transcribe Audio" feature, throughout this new RotE video series these dudes are obessed with drugs, dealing drugs, etc. It's hilarious what the transcription software comes up with...it's obsession with drugs clearly proves that the transcription algorithms were created by crackheads who absolutely love their crack.
yeah, you go ahead and spend all your left over mana in leveling up your student of warfare or what have you........okay end of turn, terminate, doomblade, path, purge, deathmark etc etc...
@WickedDealer HaHa you really believe he knows nothing? He is just acting like he knows nothing so the developer can explain to YOU what this is about... They are trying to get you pumped up for this Eldrazi thing
MTG cards are not solely designed for constructed play. Many are designed exclusively for limited formats. The leveling creatures will be amazing in limited, be they commons, uncommons, rares or mythics. Moreover, many will be fun in casual which is actually the largest source of income for WotC.
Instant speed would be OP, the real problem is that only the rare ones are good, the rest are decent to pretty bad, tough, probably they are fast enough to kill all those Eldrazy decks on the pre-relase.
@Carnerd101 WRONG, there are multitude of situations where the full potential of level up is seen at best. A great example is a late game Ranger of Eos'd Student of Warfare, where you are very happy to make him bigger and bigger to win!
@Carnerd101 I don't see anything different about them from any other creature card. You pay for a vanilla. Then pay the cost when you got nothing else to play. You're not supposed to devote your first turns and mana to the very first leveler you play. Plus the "Dies to Removal" arguement is pointless.
@Carnerd101 But at times you can find yourself late in the game, playing cards off the top of your deck, and with nothing you can do besides hope you find something to put your mana pool to good use. With these, at least, you'll always have something to do, or work toward, every turn. It's not a good idea to pay for counters when there's a better use for your lands, of course, but it's always there as an option, at least.
Yeah, every creature is useless because you can just Doom Blade / Terminate / Lightning Bolt it. /sarcasm
Leveler's are especially useful in drafts, because since the metagame revolves around huge creatures you will need a lot of mana for them. Leveler's are something that you can use that extra mana for when you can cast your Eldrazi, or after you've cast them and you've got nothing else to spend all of your mana on.
@Carnerd101 granted, they ARE easy to kill, but there are some really good levelers. for instance, echo mage that can copy spells, or brimstone mage, that can, while being really expensive, give you a free lightning bolt's worth of damage each turn.
Knight of Cliffhaven is the most expensive Serra Angel

Most of these are a waste of mana and turns. You use mana and lose turns to level something to be useful just so they'll be Path'd or Terminated.
