  • Lonnie was/is always great... Wonderful video!

  • I saw Lonnie 3 or 4 times at a little club in Hamilton,OH where he frequently played .This was late 70's. I bet there wasn't 200 people there and they played like there were 20,000!It was the greatest band I ever heard! The legendary Dumpy Rice on keys. This band mesmerized the whole club, man they were fantastic!

  • @guildguy56 Queen of clubs, He was playing there ,but the night he was put in jail in cincinnati for hitting a cop as the story . What happened to Gary boston Jerry love and Jellyroll ? Dumpy died a few years back .

Lonnie home outside of knoxville Tenn. Use come over to house w/Jerry and Gary.Very close friends of the family!

  • What Dickie Betts says at the beginning of this video is exactly the way I felt !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • many yrs ago I jammed With Lonnie and The Late H-Bomb Furgeson, The Twilight Night Club in Ohio Lonnie ia Great player

  • this cat is something else....all by himself....

  • A tragedy that Lonnie Mack is the 6th lonnie down the list in the youtube search bar.

  • @pvrhye now the 4rth!

  • Dickey Betts introduces Lonnie.

  • Absolutely my favorite song by Mr Mack

  • I agree. Lonnie and Stevie Ray shood be in the RRHOF, but alas because of politics we mayt never see them inducted.

  • Can't deny this is Hall of Fame material!

  • Jesus. Someone needs to stop that bitch from hurting this man. Legendary.

  • ....Right from the heart.......straight to the heart ......thanks lonnie ...

  • obviously 2 deaf people listened to this .....

  • Few realize what a great singer this guy was/is too! I got an LP with some of his instrumentals and early vocals on it - WOW! Great post! Thanks!

  • There's a like button, a dislike button. Where the hell is the LOVE button????

  • he gives me shiver!..one of the greatest blues man on earth

  • he aint hurtin nobody with them chops for sure...gohead LonnieMack.

  • Happy Birthday Lonnie Mack 70 my friend down the road!!!!

  • this is simply beautiful... i love watching this over and over and over

  • Lonnie is the man. He sat in with my band one night with HIS equipment (58 Flying V, serial # 007, a cable & Roland Jazz Chorus). He had set in frequently before but had used my LP & Marshall. The live sound he gets is absolutely phenomenal. Super sustain and controlled feedback .And his acoustic playing, fantastic.I have heard all his recorded music and it doesn't even come close to the sound this man actually delivers on stage! He is a true guitar icon.

  • 6.42. Spent the last 26 years trying to sound like this!

  • O.m.g. can that man R.O.C.K.. What an incredible live performance!!

  • not only great playing but good singing too....

  • I LOVE the psychedelic sound of the magnatone pitch shifting vibrato combined with the whammy bar usage and his hand vibrato.

  • Great soulful playing - that solo is one I long to play! <}:-)

  • My dad bought me my first guitar, a Gibson Les Paul Jr., a Mel-Bay chord book and a Lonnie Mack LP. I wore the grooves off the record, and it set the tone of what kind of music I both enjoyed to play and listen to.

  • Saw Lonnie in Indy in 92 at the Slippery Noodle. He signed my Lonnie Mack poster. What a nice dude. I hope he starts playing again.......

  • Lonnie Mack - HERO.

    Nothing else to say.

  • who is the one Idiot who thinks this sucks?

  • Lonnie I came to Milan in the 60s one of the first songs I learned to play was Memphis Tommy Slayback taught me that low string lick with the little finger that you used it was genius I still use it i opened your show in the early 80s with the Rageing River Band I sure enjoyed it Sunnyside Dallas Country club Winter Garden up and down the Ohio river you belong in the RR HOF your brother Billy was great also JayBowling1

  • Stop and Don't You get Tired of Hurting Me. Two of the greatest songs ever. Rock on Mr. Mack.

  • As great as Lonnie is live playing and singing, if you haven't heard his old instrumentals, you haven't gotten the full Lonnie Mack story. Agreed with others on this board that it is a farce that the R&R HOF doesn't have Lonnie or Link Wray in it, but Sting makes it? Please give me a break....

  • I remember seeing this on TV in the UK about 20 years ago and it completely blew me away - I had not come across Lonnie before - superb stuff - this and Oreo Cookie Blues are two of my all time favourite songs.

  • JUST PLAIN AWESOME!!!!!! Nobody is better.

  • Can anybody post this louder. I'm deaf as a shovel. Even with headphones, it's not loud enough. Thank you.

  • whos the 1 dickhole who disliked this

  • @dannydavis94 who cares

  • is that Johnny Cash on the Keys...? XD

  • My favorite part is from 0:00 -7:29 I love His V,I had a Les Paul with a Bigsby,,very nice!!!

  • This is titled "Falling back in love with you"

  • @Merlin914

the title of the song is STOP

  • Great sound he gets from his guitar.

  • Lonnie was way ahead of his time. He was playing his incredible guitar style in 1960

  • He needs to Stop the reverb effect.

  • Lonnie Mack is one of the most Underated guitarists of all time. A man SRV, Dickey Betts, and now Joey Bonnamasso have looked to for inspiration. I dont know how he keeps the guitar in tune hitting that old bigsby like that. I had an old SG set with the same trem ...it never kept tune after i hit the trem. He is still playin the blues...Rock on Lonnie!

  • jjhtr, ty for the info. And i don't blame Lonnie, what makes Lonnie is his V and his never giving in and just being Lonnie...Great Great Blues Man !

  • does he play thru leslie rotating speaker cabinets?

  • One of the best ever. Why is this guy not in Hall of Fame ?

  • @blkhawk1015 story I herd was that they wanted him to donate the V and he told them to stick it up their ass!

  • @jjhtr I've had the pleasure to hold and play the V with the mojo on it!! Backstage at a show in Louisville. Rode to the show with Lonnie in his old van, too. Must have been back in 2000 or 2001? What a VOICE and an 'ole boy.

  • look at how that bigsby is set up.. damn! i wanna talk to his guitar tech

  • This has to be one of the greatest Live Blues tracks ever recorded. I can't say more..........

  • He is the man....to get his sound u have to use heavy gauge strings 50 + on the low E-string and then tune a whole step down. Dude has strong fingers...lol...and soul

  • @ocean911 Strong fingers? Wimp :-) I play bass and any guitar setup is easy to finger compared to that. Soul he has plenty of. Joe Bonamassa has a great version of this song here on YouTube too.

  • @tbcass Have you actually listened to the songs? They have the title but the lyrics and music are completely different. They are not the same song at all.

  • @tbcass Yea I know the songs are different but they are both minor blues played in a similar tempo with the same feel. I thought it would be good to direct people another great song sung and played by another great guitarist. Next time I'll ask your permission.

  • @tbcass

    Ain't the same song.

  • @Camustang No shit Sherlock!! It's been pointed out to me already and I acknowledged my mistake a month ago.

  • @tbcass I just did not see it, you look a pretty touchy person.

  • Lonnie is bad BEYOND bad! If he's not inducted into the rock n roll hall of fame, they need to CLOSE the place!!!

  • @bcushing The R&R Hof F is a bunch of cronies electing each other into it. No Link Wray, or Rush? No Dick Dale? WTF? Its some exclusive bullshit society where a hack can be in it 3 times. No Lonnie Mack, Link Wray, but Sing is in it, and Dr. John? You have to pay out the ass to go through it and can't take photos. Too high brow for my tastes. I am pulling the members off my play lists, including Zeppelin, sorry fair is fair. Taste accounts for zero anymore, and accounted for damn little since 77

  • @bcushing Hear ! Hear! and Amen to that!

  • If this man is NOT in the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame, they should LOCK THE FUCKING DOORS!

  • Love me some Lonnie Mack. Thanks for the vid.

  • On top of the fact that I've had the priveledge of opening for Lonnie on 2 occasions, I saw him sit in with the Allman Brothers Band on their reunion tour at Riverfront Coliseum in 1989. They brought him up to do "Southbound" and his own "Cincinnati jail" and he handed Warren Haynes and Dickey Betts their assholes on a platter, which is saying a lot since I consider both of them {Warren and Dickey} to be two of the best players on the planet!

  • masterpiece

  • Dickey is correct.. THA MAN!

  • Far and away the best blues performance that I've ever seen and heard.

  • Que hermosa canción, me gusta en todo sentido!

  • Best of the "southern rockers" except he's from Aurora Indiana {just west of Cincinnati} He used to get played on "black" radio stations in the 50's, because he was so soulful, everyone assumed he was black.

  • He should be in the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame!

  • LONNIE FUCKING RULES!

  • This man should be in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame! He was playing screaming lead guitar in the late 50's and early 60's BEFORE there was a Clapton, Beck or Hendrix!

  • Holyl shit...I just found out about Lonnie Mack, so this is the first song I heard him perform. I am really impressed.

  • I've said it before, there just nuthin can beat Lonnie Mack.....the voice and the sound is in a class of its own.....Dicky Betts says so too......

  • A rare marriage of emotional vocals with exquisite guitar chops.

    Doesn't happen often.

  • Best of the southern rockers.

Love the tune. Love the lead on the Gibson Flying Vee.

Somebody who can both sing like that and play like that...a rarity.

  • Holy crud. It's the first time I'm hearing this guy... he's good!

  • The KING!!!

  • Una cancioncita perfecta para mi suicidio XD.

La leyenda viva del blues, lonnie mack nos sigue llegando con su hermoso blues.

    Larga vida al maestro n_n

    I Love you Lonnie =)

  • The first record Stevie ever bought was "Wham" by Lonnie Mack :)

  • Great!

  • Lonnie Mack is......well there is no words that can describe this phenom!

  • best blues song ever

  • Wicked good.

  • sorry i have been misinformed....lonnie is still alive and kicking.

  • @seaboltmike Jeez, you had me worried! Glad he's alive!

  • i hadnt heard this song in years when i found it on you tube, it was great to see the late great lonnie mack do what he did best, play and sing the blues the way only he could

  • I just bought a Gibson Flying V last Saturday. I'm discovering Lonnie Mack right now and I love him!

  • i have heard lonnies flying V is like serial no' 7 or something crazy , and that he bought it in about 1959 or so and has had it ever since , with some repairs and modifications

  • Right. but I think he bought his V in 58. Eddie Van Halen got the serial no'8

  • Hope you enjoy yours man , I certainly would .

  • @5Cincinnatus True!

  • Oh MAN!!! One of the finest guitar players I've ever seen live.

  • not just bes Lonnie but best blues song ever.....Attack of the Killer V's best album

  • My favourites Lonnie song! Thxs for posting.

  • Great Lonnie. Thanks for sharing!!!

  • There's a kind of controlled anarchy there that Neil Young gets into when he goes electric (or when he used to..).

Always liked Lonnie Mack from way back ;)

  • melodicpeace's comments are bang on !. This is played with with so much feel, class, soul and taste. Brain numbing shredding like (guitar self wanker )Gary Moore is just pure shite compared to this.

  • I want to see LONNIE MACK live before he or i die!!

  • " the rivers ran red with blood, then the sweat turned blue pouring out of his pores"

  • This is really inspirational playing, Lonnie Mack is underrated in the UK. Most people seem to think shredding aimlessly sounds good, there must be something wrong with their ears because Lonnie Mack plays way better than any of the guitar shredders

  • stop comparing apples to oranges.

  • TABS please. lol

  • so much soul... woah

  • mmmmmmmmmmmm Bigsby V....

  • lonnie mack thanks for the great memories. great music .......

  • love this - the feel, the soul, the blues.

I first heard this many years ago - but seeing him play is so good especially the whammy-bar action.

fyi - I built a flying-V some time back (I never thought of installing a Bigsby!

  • @deFunkyMofo Damn right he is!

  • @deFunkyMofo I can put a B5 on any stud mount stop tail piece and keep it where you can change it back. The Vee tail piece, NO.

  • Fantastic to find this

    a true classic!!!!!

  • aside from a complete lack of mastery of the english language brought to you by goffbum, my last posting wasn't an insult to lonnie mack. he is original an awesome. i just sense a similiarity to roy buchanan. deal w/ it goff. i like them both. what talents they are.

  • Here my friends is an example of sheer talent and one hell of a great singer. This is what I call pure blues rock. Just an awesome sounding guitar player coming through a Magnitone amp.....no way anybody can be that good and fast....SRV....no way gimme a freegan break....after you hear Lonnie it just dont get any better.....

  • What you hear people here is Lonnie Mack....he dont copy nobody the wannabee's only try to copy this man.....nobody can touch him.....no fuckin body.....

  • what a talent. do i hear a big dose of roy buchanan here?

  • No, you probably heard some Lonnie Mack in Roy Buchanan though. LOL...I think Lonnie predates Roy by a few years, if not a decade. Too bad Roy's no longer with us.

  • simply amazing....

  • saw him first when I was a little kid , out in the middle of nowhere . I was right next to the little stage and I was changed forever. I had to PLAY because of Lonnie. I have seen many since but no one else affected me like that .He makes that les paul howl and his voice is just too good

  • Its not a Les Paul,.. its a flying V, modified with a bigzby tremolo

  • Thank you .

  • This might be the greatest song I've ever heard.

  • Nobody plays that whammy bar like

Lonnie. He can play and sing anything a great talent.

  • anyone think this song is in open d tuning.....trying to figure it out help???

  • It's not an open tuning. He is merely tuned down one whole step. This song is in D-minor so he appears to be playing in E-minor.

  • Lonnie Mack is a long-time guitar hero of mine, going way back to his release of 'Memphis' and 'Susie Q' in the early 60's. Nobody, absolutely nobody ever made the Gibson flying V sound so soulful. I never thought I'd see him live but he made an appearance at the annual Colne Blues Festival some years back, so I did get to see him.

  • Beautiful song.

    Just perfect.

  • I love (t)his music

  • I know Lonnie's music few moths bu can't STOP to listen to his awesome music ! Really great song !

  • perfect . thanks for posting

  • This is too good for words.
