  • this is crazy. just crazy, nowadays its all in perfect order, back then it used to be ACTUAL FIGHTING!!

  • How can I forget, broke my nose twice, broke a couple of noses as well, it was brutal yet, what I used to do was go in an out fast, and perfected my mai geri, and mawashi; amazing how such basic kicks, once you master them, where invaluable. I still don't remember anyone who did not ended up busted at our tournaments. No pads, no gloves, even the face was fair game. I compare that with many of the patty cake style tournaments and you will see a grin on my face, like...really?

    Great video! Osu!

  • @jvliv what belt are you on in karate?

  • @jmasterzay In Shotokan Yondan. In Kyokushinkai Nidan. I began in 1979.

  • Great video, old school kumite is better than today (just my opinion). To see shotokan in UFC check out Lyoto Machida.

  • Good video for techniques but not the spirit of shotokan! Physically dominate his opponent keeping his self-control. The goal is not the KO (even if it can happen) but defeat his opponent by winning the respect and the same respect in return. The essence of shotokan's essence is not physical but spiritual: "The greatest victory is the struggle that we have not had to carry." OOSSSS !!

  • Nice Job. Awesome video!!

  • Oh my god I saw a student in my sensei's dojo!! He won so many tournaments!!!

  • I respect shotokan for allowing straight punches to the face, but that's about it. Obviously, fights end at the knockout, but I'd much rather see the "touch-point" system dropped in favor of trading blows until someone submits or goes out. SO MANY of those fighters stopped fighting completely the moment they realized they tagged the opponent, and real fighting doesn't work that way.

  • @timodilo You have to remember most people who train in traditional karate are not training to become a full contact fighter, they have to go t work the next day. If you fight until KO you could take away there real money, and take them away from there training. I hate the "game of tag" we play, but I understand why we need it as well.

  • @PrimeOcho I would agree with you if this wasn't in fact a full contact sport. Now, let me clarify. I believe that tag-point systems are terrible, despite whatever goals you have in mind for training in karate. If you don't want to get hurt, I understand and respect that, I didn't mean to advocate everyone becoming a UFC fighter. Wear pads, helmets, all that; implement no face punch/kick rules. These guys ARE punching in the face with knockouts, so the tag-rule just diminishes any respect.

  • @timodilo I understand what you are saying, I also feel that tag rules diminishes Karate. I don't like them either.

  • i respect the fact that karate today has become a glorified game of tag, but most of this video just consists of people with terrible control.

  • @brayden12345 what do mean terrible control?

  • @checkmclassics He means that they're lunging at each other with no strategy, not that I agree

  • a few hate compilations of short cut-outs. Me included.

  • This is sport on the video. This is not Karate-Do. Real Karate-Do is not about tournaments.

  • blacks belters today are considered green belters in the 80's

  • I am so glad my Sensei's don't follow modern competition rules xD They competed back in the early 80's and the rules back then was ALOT harder than today's. We're not a competing club, but when we do competition in the Dojo, a knockout is rewarded with a tap on the back, a "good job" and 20 pushups on the knuckles for dessert. And I love it!

  • man this sparring is out of control, full contact, despite the gloves youll still get hurt

  • Most of the videos are old, at the same time a lot of them show fights without gloves. It's obvious how Shotokan has been degraded to a light contact martial art nowadays.

And it's sad because thats the martial art i burn everyday on me :(

  • @almamon I agree, but there is still possible to train traditional shotokan karate which is very effective :)

  • @almamon Nothing degraded. Shorokan is not about full contact or even competition in general. It's not even sports. If you think that what you see in the video is a final goal, then you don't get a thing about real Shotokan and you're just a sportsman who trains for the sake of competition, to look cool and get a trophy. What's on the video is just a tournament, and there are tons of them every year. While real Shotokan was made by Gichin Funakoshi for average people to develop spirit and body.

  • @MajinSaha I know what you're saying, we had a misunderstanding. Funakoshi didnt want this competition were real, it was after his death that tournaments came true. Im just saying that even in the old tournament-battle system, you could see that spirit and power of a traditional karate. I dont agree with this kind of competition neither.... but at least in the past was closer to karate than the current one.

In any case, i know the differene between martial arts and sports, dont worry (:.

  • @almamon Ok, then sorry for my last message. But to clarify, my opinion is that adding full contact doesn't make you bad-ass in terms of preparation or self-development. In real life combat you will be injured anyway and will be forced to injure your opponent, so why support it during trainings or tournaments? Instead, focus on your mentality and delivering your best technique rather than defeating your opponent whom you won't kill anyway. This is how I am taught and want others to understand.

  • @MajinSaha I understand and respect your opinion (:

  • where's mr miyagi?

  • @sour11b what the matter with you ???WTF

  • Osu!!!!

  • I remember those days. What fun.

  • I like Karate Shotokan, for every body you can see : Nadia Meknouzi

World shampion the best of the women actualy.

    good watch

  • I'm 16 and I compete in WKF and AAU Karate and it makes me upset when I've barely hit my opponent hard and I get penalized for it. It's their fault that they didn't keep their guards up not mine. This video makes me happy to see great technique and not getting penalized for it. Too bad point fighting nowadays isn't like this. Great video! I'll post a video of me soon

  • @armond772 I couldn't agree more

  • I went to a Karate competition today and I came first for Kata and third for Kumite. But Kumite hasn't changed that much. Well thats what I seen today anyway.

  • karate needs discipline and serious intent, the dojo i'm at doesn't seem very disciplined, i think sometimes depends on your sensei's, because i'm yelow belt and from now on i always go to the black belt training and is way better.

  • the guy @ 2:22 looks like Al Bundy! lol

  • osoto gari @ 1:37.

  • Osoto geri @ 1:37.

  • BEAUTIFUL VIDEO.... Thank You for Sharing!!!

  • Shotokan is the same as making love and not arrive until the end of the orgasm

  • I have a 4th dan black belt and have trained for 22 years. I won national gold in mens black belt kumite 6 times. I fought the african american guy who constantly cutlines everyone

  • Amazing 1:11 I wish I had the speed to do that, that fast! Great makes me wanna get up and do some kumite!

  • should have used the song HAMMER SMASHED FACE by CANNIBAL CORPSE.

  • Nothing like good ol' traditional competition! However, my only gripe is since it is a controlled setting (face contact), it is somewhat unfair because some competitors have excellent control while others were being blasted in the face. If you purposely hit someone in the face, then that makes your opponent gun shy, affecting his state of mind. Face masks would've prevented many injuries.

  • @zoom421 Very true, some fighters do have good control so a face mask would help. But if im correct in Shotokan Karate they dont use much protection and hit to the face to make fights more realistic, its full contact to mainly anywhere you can hit. Thats what seperates Shotokan from some other forms of karate.

  • THIS IS NOT KARATE! A warning from a JKA life member: I spent a long time training and teaching this activity. Because of many contradictions I saw and heard, I began a study of karate from it’s beginning; what it really is, why it was developed, how it was taught, what it’s general syllabus was. The JKA is a shell, they have eliminated much of original karate and have invalidated it as a martial art. Read comments my site, the truth is obvious through study if you are willing to see it.

  • 1:36 wowww that one is nice!

  • It's not like that anymore? WTF, must not watch muay Thai, MMA, K1 or Sanshou. If any thing these formats attract the warriors, and the fighters of today have more tenacity, conditioning, techniques, and fierceness than the point sparrers of the admittedly rough and tumble blood and guts era. None of these guys on this video had the conditioning or skills to fight a multi round, full contact, match with low kicks, head punches and such. Let alone grappling skills. The art has evolved.

  • Shit video quality, see the same high quality clips on legend productions or their youtube site - 200374.

  • hear wasnt it like a village in that island south of japan that made this martial arts to fight samuria and koreans right???

  • exelente !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The only way to do this kind of shit now is to get a friend or some1 you know, and fight the living crap out of yourselves. Awesome.

  • wat is the song of tis vid?

  • @mulan229

is right, the color of the belt dosnt make the wear'er good..

it should be enough that you know that you are good :P

  • if it werent for wkf people wouldnt regard karate as a sissy sport.......i hate it when everyone underestimates the true power karate has.

  • Love it. This is Karate Do.

The Karate Do trained for survival and combat, not the wishy washy crap that the WKF has turned Karate Do into.

To all of us that continue training Karate Do this way, all my respect to all of you.

  • karate is awsome and fun.I am a green belt in karate shotakan and i got alot better at fighting

  • like the video, the song is hella cheesy though

  • Yes man I want to you public the Instrumental Ey of the Tiger. But not in this video but if you have another video for another Kumite Shotogun and meaybe you can.

The instrumental song Eye of the Tiger is nice to hear it.

Where are you from? and where is from this video.

  • their guard is way too low, thats why there are so many knockouts...

  • best of the best .shobo ippon system one strong kime shot. good old days

    OSS and PEACE.

  • This is kinda what I've been wanting to see...what shotokan karate can do if applied in a fight. Course this is still sport...but this is close to what I'm wanting to see. If anyone can recommend any other awesome shotokan vids I'd like to see them.

  • @ShredMetalBlues "this is still a sport"? since when did Shotokan karate become a sport? Shotokan Karate is a martial art, not a sport.

  • @YajimaKenji Rings, referees, live audience...looks like a sport to me. Shotokan karate itself isn't a sport, but what we're watching is.

  • @ShredMetalBlues Gladiators had the same, but it didn't make them any less dead.

  • it's still like this over in kyokushin

  • @SuperBluepurple no it's not, kyokushin only allows full contact to the chest, almost all traditional shotokan schools still allow that, and some allow head contact for inter-dojo kumite as well. I know I've caught quite a few yakazuki's to the mouth.

  • Hey people.I'm Feridi this video is very especial for fight day.

But sometimes the man can arrive to wine and can to lose. But lose and wine is one,the wine is who can to fight fast.

Hey and in end.Can you public's the Eye of the Tiger instrumental in this video?

  • @feridi1 Hi ferdi, what do you mean by "public's the Eye of the Tiger instrumental in this video"? Maybe you mean you'd like me to public this same video with the eye of tiger instrumental soundtrack ?

  • Ahh... those were the glory days.

  • Why Eye of the Tiger? Its used too much.

  • @zBloodD3monz some people like it

  • @zBloodD3monz It is very fitting in fact due to the fact the symbol of Shotokan is the tiger.

  • it looks tough, but that cocking your hand back non sense would get you dealt with real fast in a real situation with no one to yell "yame"

  • @jjhaywood That's what generates shock and makes you ready for a new strike. Pulling the hand back is essential, both in Kumite and self defence.

  • \o/ very good, i have 12 years old, and i don´t want compete with tha´s rules

  • I am AMAZED by 1:32. Mae geri (blocked), parries counter and counters with uraken - all in fragments of a second. Wow.

  • come over to kyokushin, no gloves, full contact - no head punches though

  • GREAT VIDEO!!

  • that sweep at 1:14 was sick

  • Nice clip, the ushiro geri (1:41) its amazing.

  • @JDEG100 someone i used to train with scored the perfect ushiro in his 3rd dan grading, folded the bloke in half and lifted him off his feet, instant ippon.

  • Pretty sure in todays shotokan you're disqualified if you knock your opponent out. BTW this video kicks ass it's too bad awesome martial arts like this are being degraded into sport with little/no contact.

  • yeah

  • @mmajunkie1000 no we dont get disqualified :)

  • @mmajunkie1000 Taekwondo (WTF) may seem light contact, but it is still full contact and depends on the fighters, because if you knock them out you win, lol. Very good video; what martial arts should be.

  • @mmajunkie1000 In all fairness it was supposed to be no contact at the time, they just had shit control.

  • @mmajunkie1000 jet kun do is way way better than karate

  • @mmajunkie1000 like taekwondo ( i remember before it becam a olympic sport)

  • my master a shotokan fourth dan tells us story's when they still didn't have gloves. And he mentions

a lot of blood broken teeth bones and stuf like that. But i would like to try it without gloves and protection because it would be more of a challenge.

  • what is the name of song?

  • eye of tiger

  • @krakerish lol dumb cunt

  • @krakerish Seriously? How can you not know the name of the song? Especially after listening to it?

  • @krakerish Eye of the tiger. U should know it cause it is one of the wordls most famous songs.

  • You can see this in top quality if you log onto legend productrions site. This quality is very poor.

  • wow, so smart - orange vs white belt, or orange vs blue belt

how do u think, who will win?

  • the belt in karate is only something to keep your pants up.

  • @mulan229

yeah, this is true in most of situation, but me with my 10 kyu would spare with my friend who has 7 kyu, he will win, becouse he knows more moves, and he has expierince.

P.S - sorry for bad english

P.S.S - ur comment made my day

  • LOL

  • @mulan229 so very worng

  • @mulan229 The belt in karate and many other combat sports is to show how much skills you have and how much u have learned. In shotokan karate it is: White, yellow, orange, green, blue, purplbe, brown Q3, brown Q2, brown Q1 and then Black. And it is 10 levels in black.

  • @mulan229 The belt in karate means patience, suffering, perseverance, blood, sweat, discipline, etc. things that only being inside you can understand, things that Hollywood stars like Bruce Lee never understood, Karate is a way of life, period... OSU!

  • @radamanthys1 What I think he meant was that you should not take for granted that a higher ranked karate ka will allways be the better fighter.

  • @Guard655 I totally agree. Its about quality, of training, TIME IN, hard work, and in some cases... natural ability. Many people forget that a black belt is just an experienced beginner. At any rate, it seems like everyone today has got one. LOL

  • @njtr every monkey today has a black belt it is bull shit it give martial arts a bad name .

  • @mulan229 umm not really mate..the pants have strings ;) hahaha

  • @mulan229

i guess this speech is international.

my master always said that until i got my bleck belt :)

  • @mulan229 Er, robes together. Though I see your point :)

  • @mulan229 not ur pants lol...ur "shirt" idk how it's called :D

  • @mulan229 Actually, in most cases, a drawstring keeps your pants up. The belt keeps your jacket from becoming.....disorganized.

  • @mulan229 That's what my Sensei always say's:

"I don't see a color, I see something that keeps your Gi together, and I don't want anybody else to be intimidated by a colored belt, an opponent is an opponent and you fight them as an equal"

  • @JRBouncerz2010 So true! My sensei also says that same thing. I can't wait for my regional tournament!

  • @MrKarateka123 I haven't spoken to you in forever good luck when it comes around. I'm going to the world championships in Serbia this year in October cant wait. You will go to the world championships one day and I know you will do amazing.

  • @JRBouncerz2010 Thanks best of luck in the world championships! Kick ass for me!!!

  • @JRBouncerz2010 Hey, how old are you? I want to know because I'm going to be 13 in a few weeks and I feel I might be too young to be a real karateka.

  • @MrKarateka123 You are never to young to be a real Karate-kKa. As long as you train with an open mind and strong discipline you are a true Karate-Ka. I am 14.

  • @mulan229 lol haha!!

  • it dosn't matter on rank or strength it matters on speed and how smart u r when u r fighting. as long as ur smart it dosn't matter if ur going up against someone double ur size

  • the knuckle fist to the nose bridge is the main weapon they use,it is one of the vital point strikes.thats why its so effective here.

  • OSS

  • pretty video , unfortunately it's not used any more in that way!! i mean there are new rules that stops hitting hard the face and more and more !

  • nice movie

  • can someone tell me what channel i might find shotokan compitions on U.S. tv?

  • Very nice,, Karate is good.

  • gj man thats nice!

  • 1:38 awesome.. a perfekt technike respekt black man ;)

  • do you know his name?

  • hä? i meant this was a good made video ^^ ..... name of who?

  • Great Video Thanks

  • great video

  • ty.

  • I think Chuck Norris does shotokan karate too :D

  • lol

  • NICE, NICE, NICE VIDEO

  • thank you

  • nice video and music, just the definition of the video is bad.

  • Shotokan is BEST!!

  • Not bad .. i like this video

  • I love the guy at 1:54 who throws a couple of over the shoulder elbows just in case!

  • Frank Brennan

  • How does this compare to Kyokushin

  • Are you joking ? Kyokushin is much similar to boxe than to karate ! This is real karate.

  • great vid

is it just my computer, or does the song volume go high to low, and vis versa?

  • Excellent video!!!!!!!!!!1

  • W la SKIF

  • man i looove karate!

  • Me 2 :D

  • They cannot put karate in the olympics because there are so many types of karate and they cannot choose a completely different type of karate but if they was going to i would say put in shotokan cos i do that and plus i would make it in to the england squad as i am going to be in two years time

  • Honestly, as a longtime Shotokan-guy I say put Koshiki Karate in the Olympics. Full contact, yet not a bloodsport and the ruleset is diverse enough for the various styles to compete in.

  • Shotokan is the most practiced over the world

  • Koshiki isn't really a style, it's a competition ruleset for any style to compete under. It's full-contact, but people wear space helmets so pretty safe. It's continuous fighting, but if you score a very powerful & clean technique they'll give you an ippon and declare the match over. Great ruleset imo.

  • Oh well, also i share the full-contact philosophy

  • of Karate? Cuz I know for a fact Tae Kwon Do is the most POPULAR martial art (for self defense)

  • lol do u even know what ur talking about...look tea kwon do is based on kicks and now tell me how the fuck are u going to pull of a kick in a narrow street or how will u kick someone in the face if lets say u didnt train for long and ur legs are rusty

  • apparently you sir, don't know what You are talking about. I'm pretty sure I can front kick any motherfucker. maybe not like a 360 (sure its not practical) but I could use a kick thats like a natural reaction

besides, how are you gonna hurt someone with Shotokan if your rusty?

lol a narrow street? are you talking like closet space? shit, if JCVD and Seagal can do it, so can I lmfao

  • I belive shotokan is the most complete and lethal martial art, no matter if its popular or not. Obviously, only if you're good at it.

  • Lol...dont be talking shit about shotokan

Now, lets take Lyoto Machida for example..100% shotokan, what is he now? UFC champ..

Any taekwondo guys doing well against other martial arts styles? NOPE.

Go ahead try to throw yur flashy kicks, not gonna work buddy, why dont u watch Genki Sudo fight that Korean guy in Pride

  • @Xerofx wtih all Respect to TKD, Shotokan cannot be even compared with TKD, Shotokan was basically started as a leathal weapon just to kill while TKD was for sport and not like the other martial arts, however it might be effective against one guy from a distance, but from my point of view, it cant do with number of ppl with full contact real fight as the case with shotokan

  • I sorry to tell you most POPULAR martial art is Tai Ji

(don't tell me that Tai Ji not for self defence)

  • Not always the most popular sports are the best ones.

  • no doubt...but UNDISPUTED, BAR NONE, TKD is the most popular world-wide....

  • ya, I agree with that

  • ya, I agree with that

  • XD

    lmao

  • not always the most popular sports are the deadliest ones

  • not in this case

  • karate will be in the next olympics not beijing the next one duh.. u will see ; )

  • i know what can we do thats all because they want to put karate in the olympics

and now karate is in the olympics..

  • What? dude karate is not in the olympics. Show some proof of it (a webpage or whatever).

  • yea thats is a real but now in these days they began to wear protections so they dont damage each other . because alot of players they got there noses broken for ex. me lol. and now alot of the rules had been change . you cant hit him in the face hardly

    only touch controll.

  • I know, infact i think today's rules are too strict. Once at least you fighted for something, and not only for some stupid points. This is Real Kumite
