@hockeater It's called Asura, named after Hindi six-armed demons. It's not real... exactly... it's a reflection of his spirit, like the cannon and the waving blades. And he learned the technique either during or sometime before the Enies Lobby arc.

In addition, the giraffe is aware that, although it gives the impression that he knows that this is a type of haki called Haki Kenbunshoku, or better known as mantra. You're right in what you have said so far, this is my interpretation, but I think watching the fight is more than obvious that Zoro has haki, especially if you've read the manga ... XD
