Enter "peacherine rag loc" into Google (without quotes). The first result should be from the Library of Congress site. Click that, then click "Page Turner" on the left, then "1024" on the top for the full size of the cover, then just click "next" to get to each successive page. That's the original sheet music. The way they play it in this video is improvised.
It isn't a song (some Joplin rags did get re-published as songs, but this was not one of them), but this is all one piece of music. It's normally all in 2/4 time with duple-time march rhythm, but they're playing around with it here, playing parts in 6/8 compound-meter march, 3/4 meter waltz and a 2/4 tango. It is "Peacherine Rag" by Scott Joplin, published in 1901.
Lots of people have done that, including of course the famous Eubie Blake arrangement. I have a piano roll of that march in ragtime too. More interestingly, I recently heard Jack & Chris Bradshaw play Joplin's "March Majestic" (normally a 6/8 march) in ragtime. I've heard a few people play the famous waltz "Over the Waves" in ragtime. Enter "blue danube ragtime" in the YouTube search box and listen to Ethan Uslan's performance of that famous waltz! It's really great!
Oh Goody Goody! I was hoping you would say something like that, thanks a bunch! Ragtime is the perfect music for writing my version of "A Raisin In The Sun."
Cool! Clarinet was the first instrument I officially learned how to play. (Before that, I had blindly (deafly?) messed around on an autoharp and my brother's cornet.) It wasn't until I self-studied sheet music for piano that I began actually to understand music, however. The clarinet teaching was fine for learning to read music and play it, but not for comprehension of what's actually happening in a piece of music. I think they should teach music theory with any instrument lessons.
this is the best! i love it!

You can also get them in an easier-to-print format by going to the Mutopia Project website, then searching for "Peacherine".

Well, I did recently post an impromptu performance by Adam with Tom Brier doing "Chopsticks" (a waltz) in ragtime...
Keeper1st 3 years ago
Yes, however that waltz has almost become a "Standard" for improvising, But how about "The Stars & Strips Forever 'March" turned in to a Rag?

I'm currently learning peacherine rag on the clarinet. Not as difficult, it's a catchy piece.
