The old Green Day sound opened the Letterman show to punk rock and after Green Day first performed Basket Case here, they started inviting the Ramones and the Sex Pistols later. And after the Ramones play Pet Sematary and the Pistols play Pretty Vacant, David's band guitarist plays the Basket Case riff. XD

So they weren't being uncaring.
