I'm trying to figure out which school of martial arts I would like to attend so I have to ask. I'm not trying to be rude. Why do the ATA folks always fight like they're timid and afraid of each other? Is there a points system? Are they doing a, very, friendly spar and actively trying not to hurt each other? Is it all of the above? I was in the military and did some combat sparring. I would have been broken in half if I showed such a lack of aggression.... What gives?
@scotth5533 Agreed :) Nothing more annoying that small minded martial artists who constantly run down all organisations but their own - be nice to see people have a more mature mentality with an appreciation of martial arts as a whole.
you can tell right away the ATA is in Blue. they are Horrible fighters. they kick high from too far away they kick in slow mo have no control of distance lean back when they kick which slows theyr combos down. the above statement is very accurate....sorry i am not a fan of the ATA.
@mastrdanart Trust me when I say this, but not every ATA fighter is that way man. But for this occasion, you are 100% right. Also, what's with no punches being thrown? Hands are just as viable in sparring. In fact, I rely on my hands WAY more than I do on my kicks.
@kalmahkid7 Trust you ok,. I don t know your experience but i have over 25 yrs of competition experience in Sport Karate, Olympic Taekwondo, Boxing and Kickboxing. Both as a national and International competitor. So trust me.
@mastrdanart I've had my share of experience in ATA, and again I'm not doubting that you know what you're talking about. I'm just simply saying, not every ATA fighter is this way. Side note: What organization did you come from? I've always liked getting different takes on different types of styles.
@kalmahkid7 Started in JKA Shotokan, Moved to Tae Kwon Do Moo Duk kwan, Then to Olympic Kukkiwon Taekwondo (although people say WTF this is incorrect they style Is Kukkiwon WTF is only the Political Org,not a style) then Boxing (usa Boxing) and Kick boxing (No Org) also studied Fu Jow Pai Kung Fu....i ve been around...LoL i m an old dawg.
@mastrdanart Nice, I've always wanted to try the Kukkiwon style, but it's there's not many places that teach it near where I am lol. Songham's the Taekwondo style around my area, but he also teaches some other martial arts like Gracie style BJJ, Haganah, and incorporates Muay Thai into the Songham style, so that's always a plus. I've heard Shotokan's really good when paired up with Taekwondo though.
@mastrdanart I don't think that is a fair call unless you have watched 100's of 1000's of ATA fighters to make such a generalised statement. It's fine that you have a dislike for the ATA, but not a fair call to say that they all fight like that.
@SueyFoFuey . They only fight within ATA thats why , they never compete outside there org. against others or at major events why. because they d get wiped. watch this match as an example thee guy inBlue is ATA i don t even know but by watching his style you can see. they Are slow have no control of distance, they kick high and up from far away thats why he misses his kicks. basically they should just stick to forms , which they do preety good. (the ATA).
what the fuck... its so annoying when i see TKD fights where they don´t use the hand to defend the head, they just keep them down, always, i practice STF TKD and they teached me to always keep my hands up, defending my head...
@thepowerofempire true, but the reason they do this is because you get 1 point for a punch, 1 point for a body kick, if the kick involves a turn ex; Nadabon , back, or whip kick you get 3 points, and any head contact is auto 3 points. when u r hands are up it is natural for some hand motion preceding a kick, this gives away they're techniques therefore they keep they're hands low not too telegraph. It is what it is basically a game of kicks.
I'm 15, blackbelt, am I am way faster than these guys. Was it my instructor? I'm in ATA and I learned that if your hands aren't up, you're seeing colors. But when I look up ATA videos, it's just pathetic. A solid contact Tornado kick will drop you, but I doubt these guys can even do one. Please, someone, explain? I'd hate to dis my Art, but every ATA video is just pathetic.
@chromehounds2 People do make idiots of themselves and not even realise it and youtube tends to make fun at anyone who is willing to try for that 30 seconds of fame. I have been with the ATA for 10 years, love it. I have been with ITF, WTF and the list goes one. ATA is the first martial art that I have been with that taught me more than just how to kick or punch. Stand true to your art, forget about the silly videos and the immature comments people post. Don't play the "your art sucks game."
Idk what you ppl are talking about! Better for your children? What does that even mean? Is it more traditional? The best training for any martial arts for any age or gender is traditional! Hard, you could die just by the practices, the masters would hit you with a stick if you weren't learning right, you sparred without gear for practice, and etc!! You were taut respect as well, respect for your senior belts, respect for life and respect to normal ppl!
@LegionShade American Taekwondo Association, it's a buy your black belt school. It's so crap that the World Taekwondo Federation doesn't recognise them.
@jaiie ::: many in ATA are just doing it for fun or exercise or be with their family . . . WTF might be more intense about it, generally speaking, but far fewer FAMILIES will do WTF together.
That being said, there are MANY ATA color and black belts who I'd stack up any day against the WTF best, INCLUDING MYSELF.
@neobefree2 On the contrary, at my WTF club there is actually quite a few families who participate. I'm not saying that you're not having fun, you can still have fun and learn how to do it properly. ATA cares more about your money, for example, you HAVE to buy their uniforms because everyone is required to wear the "Taekwondo" across the back...
@jaiie ::: on the contrary to your contrary-wise . . . ATA is almost 100% families . . . not just "quite a few" like in WTF . . . I know, because I used to be in WTF, and am now doing ATA with my kids. ATA is better for kids in my opinion, and I'm doing quite well in sparring, admittedly due to my WTF/ITF background.
All I'm saying is, stop ragging on ATA with gross over-generalizations. THE FACT IS, BOTH OF THESE GUYS IN THE VIDEO ARE JUST DANCERS, AND DON'T REALLY DO ANYTHING SUBSTANTIAL.
The fun of a martial art should be learning it properly and competing with it. Not like, "Oh I need something fun to do, so I'll learn a martial art." A martial art is designed to be a form of self-defense, first and foremost. Being attacked in the street and having to use said martial art isn't fun, unless you're sick in the head. Yeah you might get a buzz from it, but if it was serious enough, it would be far from fun.
@leanxt I am in W.T.F and in this vid but trying not to be bias that W.T.F won I believe this why because they use it as a sport they do it every day practice everyday they know more and can use combination's more. AtA focus more on Poom's and Breaking Sparring not that much I can see the 2nd degree here focus a lot of his time in sparring very awesome.
Wow, your master is a 3rd degree. You can't be a Master in my style until your a 6th degree and test for a year in front of Grand Master and Masters Council. Just getting to 3rd degree isn't that hard.
I thought it was a good showcase. 2 black belts showing their skills. its not about who owned who. comes down to which one knows how to use the tools they learned better in the end. like ssainhu6 said those who dont like ATA are going to bash it anyway. whatever happend to the love for all taekwondo?
I don't think either one "owned" the other. They both got some good kicks in, but other than that...not much difference...those who want to ATA bash are going to do so no matter how good the person is. **yawn**
Sparring was the only fun part about the ATA. I was 3rd dan before I decided they were milking me dry and left. have plenty of trophy's to make people still fear my feet lol.
@EelSacul Ah, don't know what video you watched, but nobody owned anyone. What it looks like to me is just two martial artists playing around, not taking anything to seriously.
