All the food came from The Shire thats why Merry and Pippin recognized it. While Saruman was planning the attack on Rohan he also took control of The Shire with ruffians. Saruman destroys most of the buildings and sets of a payment system in which hobbits would provide food for Isengard. Eventually the Frodo and company return home and find that their homes are in ruin so they kill off the ruffians with skills and weapons they learned while the were off. Then Worm kills Saruman.
