I hate anime to death. However, this movie, along with Miyazaki's Spirited Away, and Kiki's Delivery Service are among the best animated movies out there. But the best animated movies still go to Lion King and all those other Disney and Pixar Movies. and the Iron Giant.
@luluFUCKER I generally hate anime, but this one stands out as one of those rare good Gems. Along with anything Miyazaki comes up with. The fact is that most anime are just not well animated. The animation itself is just terrible most times. So, I did not contradict myself.
I think he means that if you hate anime to death, then you're dead (instead of the actual meaning, which is "until you die). It was a poor attempt at a joke, not a comment on Anime or slam against you.
@PsychoticLoner maybe. if that indeed is the case, then I need to find where I put my Sense of Humor. but one thing is certain. I'd have to be dead inside to not enjoy this movie.
Only the true leader can se where the shoebox fell. No toaster can relax its muscles at the pigs idea of peace. But what does it all mean if we cant hold revenge againstthose taped against the floorboards?
No form of art or entertainment exists in a vacuum. Something always borrows from something else. I enjoy both movies, and I enjoy a lot of the works that clearly led up to them.
"Inception" and "Paprika" both deal with the concept of entering the dream world via technology, but they are both completely different movies. That's like saying "Dragon Heart" and "How to Train Your Dragon" are the same because they both have dragons.
Ya I thought of Inception during the elevator part......Paprika has so many themes, so many grand ideas, I love it, but I still dont think its the complete package, Id give it a 7 out fo 10.
Stunningly ambitious in its execution and broad range of philosophical meanderings, though held back somewhat by an invariably incohesive narrative. This is expected of course as its based in the incohesive dream world. I just think it could have been pulled together a bit better.
@Chatterjeepal The director has already said he was inspired by Paprika. But both stories were done differently and concentrated on different aspects of entering the dream world. Either way, both movies are great. The music is amazing in Paprika and the idea behind the music in Inception was amazing as well. I think that instead of arguing over who ripped off what and who did what I think that we should just enjoy the music and enjoy the films.
Man, what the fuck is wrong with youtube? Here we have a beautiful soundtrack for an amazing film and all anyone can do is spew hate towards Inception.
@Dr4snus: That's not YouTube. That's just standard. What we have here (and everywhere) is a culture in which rudeness and condescension are considered signs of strength... alpha behavior... the marks of a badass.
They're not. In fact, Robert Heinlein once wrote that when a culture loses simple courtesy as a social norm, get out! That culture is doomed. I believe what we have here is a dying culture. I would get out if I could, but I don't have the resources of Mr. Heinlein or his characters.
@Dr4snus Arguing's good for you. And you are using "hate" too loosely, hate is very personal feeling. I kinda disliked Inception, and rightly so. The idea that someone has so rigid dreamscapes as in Inception scares me.
Saying Inception is retarded is pretty retarded in of itself. It's a great movie, and you should feel ashamed for saying that. Is it better than Paprika? That's pretty much up to opinion, but both films are great, and you should be a cool kid and enjoy both.
@alfredoiceman For what it's worth Nolan admitted in an interview that he was influenced by Paprika when doing Inception. That said, I definitely wouldn't call it a ripoff of Paprika just because they both involve going into peoples dreams. If we do that than we may as well call every 1st person shooter a Doom ripoff, or every western movie a ripoff of whatever the first one of those was, but of course we don't cause that would be ridiculous.
Liked this movie, love the music. But compare this to INCEPTIONS is for RETARDS. Personally I like Inception much better, and to say Inception is a ripoff of Paprika is as retarded and as close-minded as to say then that Paprika is a ripoff of The thirteenth floor, which at the same time would be a ripoff of Welt am Draht, or that is a ripoff of Abre los Ojos.

I just woke up from a dream, and the last thing I remember was standing on a dirt path in a hilly, lightly wooded plains/forest. Rest In Peace Satoshi Kon-Sama. Another genius has faded away from this world. It was shocking to hear that you've passed away. Thank you for everything. You will remain as one of the most notable directors in the anime industry, especially among us fans. Your legend will live on through the beautiful works you've left us with. LONG LIVE SATOSHI KON!

I truly did become a fan of his movies at the wrong time :"(
I just started obssessing over Paprika recently and of course I've always loved Paranoia Agent and Tokyo Godfathers (I just never knew they were by the same genius). I won't say RIP, but rather, rest in joy knowing that we all love him for what he's given us.

@heero171 i think you are a bit mistaken satoshi kon is a director he directed paprika and a number of other great movies tokyo godfathers, perfect blue etc. Susumu hirasawa composed the music and is still making music as far as i know. He has alot of great music out there.
im devastated to hear kon died btw i had no idea :( RIP

Rest In Peace Satoshi Kon-Sama. Another genius has faded away from this world. It was shocking to hear that you've passed away. Thank you for everything. You will remain as one of the most notable directors in the anime industry, especially among us fans. Your legend will live on through the beautiful works you've left us with. LONG LIVE SATOSHI KON!
