Recognition for actors of color has still not caught up to the diverse world we live in. Of the three actors of color nominated for Oscars this year—one male... two female—Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer play maids and Demian Bichir plays a gardener. It’s an improvement on the past, when actors of color played “Driving Miss Daisy”-type roles that helped shore up apologist histories for American racism. It would be nice for actors of color to receive recognition for parts that weren’t about race.
She is an incredibly beautiful actress. Too bad we probably will never get a chance to see her acting alongside a very nice-looking black actor. Maybe we will see her playing a maid in "The Help 2." Or playing in some White romantic comedy... next to some pretty boys, as a TOKEN BLACK CHICK.. to add to the White males image as a UNIVERSAL lover of ALL females.
Pirates of the Caribbean had a couple of very unattractive Black Pirates. BLACKBEARD HAD OVER 100 PIRATES ON HIS SHIP - OVER 60 BLACK!

Celebrate and appreciate one's color & culture, don't ignore it. There is SO much discrimination when it comes to getting roles, even for women like Zoe Saldana, who has been told she is "too dark" for a part, even though she was great in the audition. @ShaynaSmee people get discriminated for the stupidest reasons, not just because they're "too dark." but I think generally hollywood is more open-minded and well adjusted than before. But it's a wierd, fishy buisiness. It is a buisiness often for the lowest common denominator, and that brings forth some very unsavory trends. but I think we can be hopeful because things are a lot better now - more successful black actors and actresses than ever.
@jin12345678 I agree completely :) I am glad to see a change, not just for black actors, because I know there aren't a large amount of Indian, Native American, and Asian actors and actresses getting larger roles or recognition. The trends are def. improving.
