Excellent Azucena...Horne was terrific and this has so much working for it- technique, even Verdian bel canto type of trill and ornamentation, character, strong voice, very lyric and yet dramatic....this is probably the Azucena that Verdi had in mind
What I like about this is she really suits the role of Azucena. Aged, weathered, and scary. She sings the piece as its written, with dynamic contrast, trills, and NATURALLY heavy tones. thanks for posting this!!!

@troppofiato There used to be a version of Stride la Vampa on here by Margarete Arndt-Ober, who was a true dramatic Mezzo. She sings every trill as well, and the long suspended trill is even better than Horne's. Obraztsova sings all the trills as well on the 1977 Karajan recording. These two, along with Horne are the only ones who really do justice to this piece.
