  • with respect to all the great drummers out there and of all time ,i think that the best drummers of all time are buddy rich and neil peart in that order hands down and personally neil besides being my favorite drummer of all time he is the only one who has had a huge drum set and used every piece of it . because alot of guys out there have huge sets but only use a few toms, a few cymbals and the rest is all for show. .

  • that is one FINE video you got thanks for posting!! BEST drummer on the PLANET hands down.

  • anyone who thinks neil peart isnt the God if drums is a dumbass!

  • The man is a beast

  • Idk how to be playing for soooo many years he can still be so creative

  • I heard he had to wear that hat so the lights wouldn't give him melanoma while he was undergoing cancer treatment. Is that true? Get better soon, Neil!

  • Neil Peart destroys all the other solos not only because he's fast, but because every single one of his limbs is doing something different.

  • Come to Brazil,please!

  • Chris from Hell, go suck a dick. You ingrate. When was the last time YOU did a drum solo, prick?

  • @daimajinbuu dude... he's talking about how people will say "he isn't the fastest so isnt the best, shut up". It's like David Gilmore's solo in Comfortably Numb. It's not super hard or fast, but it just sounds so orgasmic.

  • With Rush it is all about CREATIVITY. any numb-nut can bang drums.

  • Tom Hanks on the drums¡

  • @mix3848 Aye Tom Hanks looks like Neil Peart ;D Not the other way around :)

  • Judging by the end of the description, i assume the poster of this video is canadian.

  • This is the first Neil Peart solo I don't really like.

  • Neil is still "Growing" the talent he is, doesen't seem he's into stagnation.

"ME--MEEP" Neil, guess you were the Road Runner. Fast and Lots of ideas.

    Gail

  • He looks exactly like Tom Hanks!

  • @dannyman727 Nothing like Tom Hanks????

  • @dannyman727 No. Tom Hanks look like him.

  • @ZildjianL4D2 he must be concentrate , maybe ??

  • great recording bud ...thanks!!!

  • his solos got weird after gruber

  • Its not that it would be difficult, or doesn't fit into our prejudice as to what a drum solo should or shouldn't be, its that its musical, melodic, personal, and bio-graphical of the artist. A giving of part of the soul and communicating some of the feeling and experience of the artist. Thats why its "good" (effective, communicative, relatable) to me. Though I must admit I'm speaking mostly of the first half.

  • Beautiful. That's some killer drumming. Next level type-stuff. I love it.

  • BOOT LEG VIDEO'S SUCK!

  • deamn neil has these awsome drumm sets....love he's set up's

  • i would love neil peart way more if he had a simple acustic set with the snare, toms, bass and cymbols...nothing else, no xylophones

  • I wanna see the 10 haters cover this.

  • @RebelliousToast god that would be so hard

  • @BeastFromTheEast94 Oh for sure.

  • you rock

  • interesting but not impressive ... anyway there are much better Neil solos

  • I'm not sure most people understand how complex this can be keeping a steady boom-ch-ch with your feet and playing over that with crazy smooth hands.

  • Peart's a legend, but I prefer the pre-electronics sound.

  • Is he in control of making the horn type sounds?! I am a little confused about whether that was him or if that was Geddy or if it was a stage production trick.

  • They're not the hardest? Wait, wut?

  • Only Neil could make this.

  • He isn't just a drummer.. he is a percussionist drums are just one of the instruments he plays.. He also plays zylophone, and other percussion instruments. You guys also know that he writes ALL the lyrics for Rush's songs There isn't any timing in music he can't play.. truly one of the best the world has ever seen.

  • his solos just have a meaning, tehnique is imposible... Every solo is a song for itself!

  • Ahhh I was there to see this!!!! My friend got me a free ticket in and I've practically thanked him every day since.

  • Der Trommler!!

  • The real skill IS in the conception. Thank you Neil for all you do!

  • I see where Danny Carrey (Tool) got most of his inspirations for becoming a drummer from. These are the drummers that are so amazing, they are different, they dont have the same beats over and over again unlike other drummers.

  • Neil is telling us storys with his drums. He's reciting a poem. It's the way every drum solo by Neil is.

  • SICK!!!!!!

  • Does anyone know about how much one of those small cymbals cost, if you do,reply. Thanks.

  • @nicknhl123 they are called splash cymbal. price varies by brand, model and size.

  • BEST DRUMER IN THE WORLD !!! <33

  • man I can't wait to see them live. By the Time they get to Salt Lake they will be loose as a goose.

  • he may be getting older.....but he isn't slowing down a bit!

  • The best drummers learn from other great drummers and from our roots, which is jazz. It's great if you can play a fast double bass pattern with your feet, but it's much better if you can think in a creative way and play solos like Neils.... That's why I enjoy Rush's music over any other "metal" or "rock" band.

  • thank you for saying so alot of people don't realize that fast isn't always better, just because the music is fast doesn't mean it sounds good

  • Thats just so creative. Neil's really pushing the compositional aspect of drumming here. He's basically an electronic drummer but with that foundation has more of a palette of expression. He loves those V-Drums for sure. At the core of course is that mastery of timing and independence in timing, the almost fundamental technicality of drumming and then he ads composition and performance over it. Taking drumming further in a way. Thats why he's the man, Peart.

  • best drummer ever...amazing

  • all the great drummers were influenced by jazz

  • What camera are you using, going to see them in July and I wanna get quality video.

  • Fucking amazing.......

  • Here it is: the only 2,000-piece drumset on the planet!

  • @gorillabelly1 hehehe check out Terry Bozio's kit. It dwarfs Neil's. And Neil's is a monster.

  • Bummer that this isn't the whole solo, I was there this night. Just before this movement, before the big snare solo, he switched from matched to trad. grip and dropped his left stick on the snare. The entire audience gasped! Neil shook his head, rolled his eyes, smiled, picked up the stick and continued. I thought it was pretty cool to see that he's human, not some machine, like some people choose to make him out to be. Rumors of a tour late 2010. Woo hoo!! I'll be there! Long live RUSH!

  • I agree!

  • @mistarax Yep, Rush coming to my town in Sep 2010 (Sep 21, Tulsa OK).

  • sdfoisjdofjosfkg!

  • wtf look at his small bass drum

  • @spizzkid: It's an electronic kick trigger, not an actual drum.

  • i want to be like that dude one day

  • Viva a Dennis Chambers!!!!!!!!!!

  • Neil Pert... you can't even dream of a beat he can'y play...

  • @p0rkjell0 are you saying he Can't Play? if you are then what the hell are you talking about, tell me someone who is way better than him??

  • @rush4ever1 No you dumb ass retard... re-read my comment...

I was saying there is no beat he can't play...

  • oh, well that doesn't mean im a retard, by the way you said it, it sounded like you were saying that he sucked

  • @p0rkjell0 Neil is like the Chuck Norris of drumming lulz

  • @crazydrummer444 think bruce lee might be a much better analogy

  • Very cool. Was it at the Sports Arena?

  • no it's actually the amphitheater in Chula Vista

  • hehe he'd literally have to climb over the drums to get out.

  • Actually, I've seen his set all around. There's little escape between his electric xylophone and electric snare.

  • god damn you shake the camera so much

  • coolest drum kit i have ever seen

  • this just his drumming with rush, hes an amazing big band drummer too

  • not my style of music but damn good music

  • not true at all, his Snakes and Arrows solos were a bit off from what he normally does.

  • just cuz his solos arent the hardest to play doesnt mean he isnt one of the best. drum solos arent just about randomly hitting drums like a retard having a seizure.

  • @ChrisFromHell13

well, according to waynes world, they are. LOL!

  • @ChrisFromHell13 lol.. retard having a seizure...

  • @ChrisFromHell13

unless you're garth from wanes world

  • wow seriously guys wake up...Neil Peart is good but best drummer ever? what the shit? have you ever heard of Wally Schnalle or Stanton Moore, or better yet you want to talk mastery of the drum Jojo Mayer trust me "secret weapons for the modern drummer" best informational drumming video ever that man is a true genius. Now I dont know THAT much about Neil Peart but I have listened to his "legendary solos" and really anybody can do that

  • You wake up cappizzle09! It is all about preference! Let us have our time in the sun and enjoy what we want in our opinions of what we think is the best drummer ever (which is of course Neil Peart I might add :] ) as you go adore you favorite drummers!

  • if you don't know much about neil peart then SHUT THE FUCK UP!

  • Agreed.

    NEAL PERT FTW!

  • Yes there is no one and i repeat no one like the masterful Neil peart. HE IS A CONSTANT student and always looks to improve his mastery of the drum. His thirst for knowledge of drumming is limitless. He is a genius in every sense of the word. He is the greatest living drummer and arguably of all time. I love Keith moon, stewart copeland, and john bonham but neil is more diverse and talented than all of them. Buddy rich passed the torch to neil.

  • he is by far the greatest drummer ever and will b either forever or for a very very very long time

  • So any way, Back to the fantastic Neil and his amazing playing

  • Sorry to get caught up in a stupid convo I just happened to read, but I seriously hate (yes, HATE) people who think people who listen to black or satanic metal are automatically Satanists. No real Satanist flamers, please. I am not a devout Christian, but I get tired of hearing, "Fuck God! Praise Hell Satan!" -_-

  • HURRAY FOR STUPID RELIGION ARGUMENTS!!!!!! ...anyways GO PEART! nice new solo <3

  • As far as soenberg and his poor timing buddies. What else can you say except it must suck to be them. Like Van Gogh i presume. Die penniless w/out any gratification and then wham a mere century later your painting fetches an all time art auction price and you've been glorified as the greatest oil man in history. It's like thanks a lot God I could've used the bread and adulation to stave off insanity. Who knows? God's will only

  • Yeah Like look at the latent slip from thinchap. No offense until finally he blurts that what? "I would have to admit the existence of a Christian God, which doesn't exist". You see Thinchap is in the metaphorical closet so to speak. I know there are others cloaked in stealth. Adulterers in jazz channel? OH yeah but you've got those everywhere. Dime a dozen.

  • Yet you don't see me or anyone else bitching about them anywhere. Relax. Move past the things you don't like and can't control. Time to grow up.

Ever think that maybe Thinchap is trying to wind you up and isn't serious? Quite likely, considering his comments on your page.

  • Dude that wasn't a "Latent Slip", If satan exists, so does god. I cannot worship satan because i don't beleive in the existence of either. I also don't beleive in Santa or the Tooth fairy. What i do believe in is respecting people that deserve respect, and trying to encourage people to be at peace with themselves. let go of your anger my friend or it will destroy you.

  • "What i do believe in is respecting people that deserve respect,"

Respect is no more real than god or satan.

Equally ambiguous. Just another subjective concept.

  • The way I recall it is I get incensed by some message by some guy w/666 in his name maybe it came to my comments. then I go to the group and rage cause Iknow their are more out there in there that don't even have the balls to put 666 in their name. So it's like attacking a single organism at once. I don't really care since this whole youtube micro doesn't even reflect life as I lactually live it. I find that it has made me real aggressive. Way over the top and not what I do in world.

  • No, you don't "know" that there are more out there. You THINK there are more out there. It's like me going to a jazz channel and bitching everybody out because there's "probably" one adulterer in there.

If you get so angry and aggressive, leave. It's an internet service.

  • And yes I listened to the classic stuff and I don't like it. I am not the kind of Christian that is in anybodys face except if they want to loudly advocated satanism. That has never happened outside of this youtube for me as of yet. I look at spiritualism in a fatalistic kind of way actually. Like who's name is in the tree of life kinda thing. I believe kinda that the names get inked as the soul entered. God's last minute deal.

  • Yes, you ARE the kind of Christian that is in people's faces for no reason. You're on metal channels calling everyone in sight "satan worshippers" when most people there aren't and even IF the band's lyrics are satanic (highly unlikely for Nile and Meshuggah), you yourself said you can't understand it anyway so you base everything off your own opinion.

  • Man this Christian thing is out of hand. Have I vere said Neil Peart is going to hell. Yeah I lumped like archie bunker all the death/metal fans in one big nipple ring. But it's the 666 idiots that get to me seriously. Also very intolerant for so called atheists which I know are full of shit. Ok dude let's call it a higher power like AA does so we don't alienate the to proud to want God types. Seen alot of them in AA. but only in the beginning of sobriety do they deny God. Always after sober

  • God doesn't exist? But evil does? that's a satanist for you. putting the devil before riighteousness. well we all know how that plays out. I certainly can let (duh) Np do his thing but I can't seem to let you all false idolize the non drum champ for what that is. period. he ain't a drum champ. period.

  • Thinchap's right about one thing: most vocal, outspoken Christians are (in my experience) harsh, judgmental bigots who carry around "repent" signs and tell people they're going to hell for whatever reason. Christianity only REQUIRES faith, but Jesus wanted us to love and forgive, not judge and condemn, even if it's not required for salvation. A true Christian wants to share God's love, not threaten with God's wrath.

  • 1 ) i don't idolise him in the slightest, i'm not even a rush fan tbh.

    2) i beleive in human nature, people do good and bad things through their own choices without the urging from superstitional beings from either end of the spectrum.

    3) i only brought christianity into the debate because that's another thing you seem intent on ramming down peoples throats.

  • Contempt ,hatred and anger?Typical fucking Christian hypocrisy? Spoken from what? Another typical Demon Worshipper?Well we all know how that battle ends. Loser

  • no my friend, i cannot possibly worship satan because i would have to admit the existence of the christian god, which doesn't exist. And once again you contradict yourself, your anger, hatred and contempt are evident everytime you open your mouth ( or hide behind your keyboard ). Also, get your own fucking camera, you can pick one up cheap as shit, asking me to provide you with one is just a lame copout because you know damn well you can't back up your statements with evidence.

  • Yes, on page 3 and 4 we start to see some skeptics and realists about the mediocrity being displayed by the Neil peart solo. Ths boring and same old NP solo. Of course all the -rated comments are closed for view but one guy nails it perfectly when he says that NP could never play anything close to what Carl palmer has laid down and that is the winning ticket for correctness. Ain't shit to Carl Palmer. I thought everybody still knew that. So fuck off np wannabees.

  • lol what a mo mo

  • And to any pitiful sucker that needs Neil Peart to be great to justify your wanna be copycatting of the guy I say you're just sorry ass followers. You chose a mediocre model. An Edsel. Hey Ed, you got thiss solo down yet? You only had 30 years? Need more time. Don't have more time ED.People just don't care anymore.Rush is dead

  • I need a camera and two mcs. You send those and I'm up w/pleasure. It ain't bragging if you can do it.Hatred and contempt?Doubt that. Why would I have it. I'm very comfortable in my skin and in my drumming ability.'m fixated on Neil Peart lately I'll admit that. I just can't see the adulation forever over a guy that's just soso. Rush sucks so I just don't get why they are almost liked as much as Zep who blew them out 30 years ago. These Rush dudes just sound the same and the quality goes down.

  • Dude you're fixated on any drummer that isn't in your worship list. I thought that Christianity was supposed to be about forgiveness and understanding, this is why you're a hypocrite, you cannot forgive them for being less (in your opinion) than your idols, and you refuse to understand that they are being themselves. Just like a good Christian. well done, God loves you my boy.

  • Weaverhighschool. A twenty year old guitar hero drummer. And a shitty no talent for even that one to boot. You have a lot of nerve even fantasising that you are a drummer.Did you finally save up enough dough from your paper route? What a fucking joke you are.

  • Show us your skills dude, you're so full of contempt and hatred and anger (typical fucking christian hypocrisy) for anyone that's not you, show us some vids of you that might earn you some respect. Go on, i double dare you motherfucker.

  • yes thank you for making my point for me...oh and post away i dont really care...

  • That you hate my truth telling about Bozo here. I'm going to post a whole bunch more just for you and the other asswipe non-players to get upset over. You have made my day punkass. Thank you

  • rrdrums once again fails, what a fuckwitt.

  • my comment pertained to rrdrums110. just saying,

  • Oh and he plays the way he plays because thats what he wants to play!! when you have over 40 Gold and Platnum records im sure you would play what you like as well. As far as endurance goes, I saw Rush last year and they played 3 1/2 hours with no opening act.

  • wow! rrdrums in yet another Peart thread spreading his negetivity...amazing!!! What are you the Peart police??? anyone who thinks too highly of Peart I guess its your duty to set them straight. you obviously dont like Peart...ive figured that out. what i have not figured out is why you insist on going from one thread to the next insulting people who like him...the truth is i know why u do it...

  • He always goes to the sound effects cause his weak ass wrists are tired. And you dumbasses think he's creative. HAHA. Boy does he fuck your head over. He's just catching his breath cause he's got shit for endurance. never did have any. Buddy rich influence? does he sound like Buddy to you? not achance Jasper. he just doesn't have the chops.

  • Dude stick that cock deeper in your ass. Peart is drum god, he is very technical, something that your clearly to nearsighted to see. He said him self he has never felt jazz as much as Buddy, but he is still amazing. Even if you don't like him, just shut your fucking mouth and be respectful to a 57 year old god, instead of going around to a bunch of videos and making a deal over something you can't understand.

  • of course he won't sound like buddy, cuz he's not. He is NEIL PEART! you can't sound like someone your not. He has his own style and whether you like him or not, there will always be others(me, as well as all the other Rush fans out there) who will like what he plays, how he solos, and no matter what the fuck you say NEIL PEART IS STILL GOING DOWN AS ONE OF THE MOST BADASS DRUMMERS TO HAVE EVER LIVED! one person not liking him isn't gonna change that, so fuck off rrdrums

  • Its funny that you have no idea what the fuck you are talking about. you don't know shit about Neil Peart. So do everyone a favor and quit trolling because nobody cares about what you have to say. Enough said you fucking loser.

  • LIKE NO OTHER!

  • Most drummers will tell ya tht no two solos are exactly the same, and thts wht makes drumming so damn difficult and speical

  • well I think for each different tour he sort of comes up with a kind of main solo and leave some room for improving, and then it is different for each tour. So you might have seen ones from the same tour, where it has the same base, but is altered a litlle here or there. All I know is first time i saw him, it completely got me back into drumming, and I always think it is worth the ticket price just for the solo, but the rest of the show is great too.

  • ive seen like 3 different drum solos from him and they all sound similar...

  • A standard for others to be measured by.

  • I was there, 5th row, the man is amazing. Hail to the Chief!

  • obviously the two mother fuckers below me suck dick. look at rrdrums110 profile. that mother fucker has nothing but bad comments. fuck you bitches. this is music. music does not have to be loud fast stuff to be good, so, FUCK YOU!

  • You are so naive... You think that all solos are just double bass and hitting the same drum over and over again like so many do... Great drummers like Neil Pert have solos that contain things so inconceivably amazing and original that its almost impossible to reproduce... He uses more than just toms and snare, he uses all forms of percussion. Percussion has NO limits to sound.

P.S.. You're right, its easy to reproduce a solo, but the real skill is making it up.

  • thank you

  • ahh this dude knos wat hes talking about

  • And that my friend is how i can tell you are a real drummer, becuase regardless of how good you are you love drumming and understand good drumming when you hear it.

  • @PepDrumLow

well i think most drummers just jam at drum solos...and that's why at a solo you can see if the drummer is all about speed and shit or if he has skill inside him

  • To do all his hand work while playing the simple rhythm on his feet is an absoloute brainteaser to try. Hes just a God of drumming. An absoloute master.

  • it different it dusnt suk just think hes nearly 60 give him some credit hes still the greatest drummer

  • soooooooo boring!

  • you try it

  • you are obviously ignorant to talent then, and should go commence fucking yourself.

  • The man's a friggin genius!

  • only the ending =(

  • ...anything musically and rhythmically correct that is

  • you the bitch, this is the best rock drummer ever, you calling that man some shit like that ,you pussy!

  • i'd like to see you try and play anything over a waltz foot pattern.

  • I love how he has the sounds of different instruments on his vpads and cymbals it makes it so bad ass.

  • WOW...how do u not think neil is an amazing drummer. I would love to see you play better than him

  • Umm....have you listened to ANY rush songs, not just part of one of his solos?

  • So my guess is Sirburnallot that you're not a drummer.

  • your defently not a drummer if you think neil peart is a bad drummer. either that your you are just a really bad one.

  • your a douche, this man is very good at drumming and you should really not say anything about it because hes awesome

  • And who are you again?

  • this is only part of the drum solo... its the last part the actual whole thing is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better and its 8:30 minutes long or somethin like that.

  • I AM YET TO SEE RUSH LIVE...

  • Esquisito...

  • was this that snakes and arrows tour? is the new album any good?
