If your on a budget buy a cheap card, if you got lots of money buy an expensive card, Ahh wow thanks do i'm minted and having been buying shit 512MB cards for years, now I see the problem.
Buy a 6000 series if you're strapped for cash, otherwise buy the 7000 series...
...no crap?
Stating the "black and white" is something everyone can do. How about making this video more meaningful by explaining the "gray" parts? Y'know, price-to-performance... possible CF'ing 6000 series > a single 7000 series due to being less pricey + better performance... list goes on.
All I'm saying is that your video is pretty meaningless. That is all.
i still have a 5870, 6000 series are less powerful unless you go 6890 or higher.. my 5870 still handles games i play above 60fps.
I hear 7000 series are again a rehash so i am guessing they are not going to be greatly powerful?. The only card i hear is worth waiting for are nvidia's 512bit bus near the end of this year which are apparently going to be a ton faster.
I just find the 5 series much better to use as they perform around the same level at the same price point yet Nvidias drivers are certainly much better to use and the cooler on the equivalent 5 series cards is much better, making far less noise at load.
@slizza90 Haha yeah i suppose you're right, i definitely agree that Nvidia drivers are much better But i'm not to certain on the coolers for the 5 series? i've never really had first hand experience with a 5 series card to compare them.
@slizza90 True True, they got one the hd version thats smaller than the other versions. I bet you sli a big one being the one on top with the smaller at the bottom you get better air flow while in sli.....
one question I have a 6970 xfx edition but I don't seem to be getting the performance that I want out of it. I have a 635 amd quad core processor 6gb of ddr2 ram at 800mhz and a hdd not an ssd.
I'm currently using a gtx 260 but will upgrade to a gtx 570 HD when the vendor restocks. Looking foward to playing Bf3, Witcher 3, and games that use tessellation like dx3. Also I always avoid ati due to consistent complaints about the drivers. My closest friend got ati and had plenty problems not only with driver but heat also...
@2142bf i'm sure this won't change your mind and it's purely anecdotal, but i've been using ati cards for a couple years and haven't had any problems at all. currently have an his iceq x turbo radeon hd 6950 2gb and haven't had any problems with it at all. temps don't go much higher than 70c at full load and so far it's been able to run every game i play maxed (metro2033 the most demanding i have). Also, the 6950 and 570 perform about the same but the 6950 is about $50-$100 cheaper.
@Odemine thats good though i guess its just a matter of what you play @ what resolutions but for example i play bf2 and bench shows 570gtx @ 1680x res my min/max fps 63/82 vs 6950 2gb fps 53/74 and so the reason why i am going with nvidia vs ati
@2142bf That's actually the opposite for me, I am an Ati and AMD user and I've had no problems with the drivers or the heat, it might be because your friends computer case doesn't have much ventilation. I'm using mine's in a Phatmon full-tower case and the parts stay at a nice cool level of 34 digress.
@CyberMcRock I agree with you, certain cards benefit from certain enclosures and I am happy that your setup works for you and i would really enjoy having a amd pc thats not heavy on my wallet but performs great and also overclock =) its a great time right now with all the products out right now
@2142bf i bought a 6870 because my 6850 fried at the weekend, The 6870 came, and within 24 hours i had decided i was sending it back for a full refund. The idle fan speed was at 50% and its idle temp was 55*c, XFX advised me to reinstall the drivers, i did as they said and the card also fried, im getting a gtx560 ti instead now. Dont think ill touch AMD again
Statistics show there is coherence when price performance is looked at, AMD mostly has the edge over the competition. The 7000 series is priced were it should be so as a consumer it's your choice to spend what you need to obtain what you consider a good gaming experience. My personal choice is always the top single GPU card that AMD offers.
@nooblady2310 The performance is actually quite close to one another, and in my case the 6970s would cost distinctly more.
Of course, the price varies by location and store though. Maybe it's cheaper for you. I think it's stupid to announce the 6970 CF as the better bang for buck when prices aren't going to be fixed.
Well some 7000 cards like the 7970 is out so u can buy it or better yet wait for NVidia's GTX 700 series card.. Personally i have a GTX 580 and i will wait for the GTX 700 series
the 6000 series are still decent i dont really see the need for a 7000 series card yet to be honest im still with a 6870 there awesome cards but in a few days im getting a 6950.
Ya sure the 7970 is a great card. But I think people need to realize this is a pci-e 3.0 card. Meaning if you use it with a current 2.0 or 2.1 setup, you are going to see reduced performance because this card is designed for a 3.0 slot. Yes, ASUS has release a 3.0 mobo, but it is intel only and even then you are going to need a fairly high end processor (2500K or above) to fully utilize this card. So you are talking around $1000 (give or take). The smart thing to do is WAIT.
@Solidus5578 Graphics cards don't get a massive kick out of the PCIe 3.0 - they will have a fair performance increase. PCIe 3 will mainly increase PCIe SSD performance (by a lot). Graphics cards right now are at their limit for Bandwidth across the lanes - mainly why they get a much smaller kick out of PCIe 3 than some think :) Just pointing that out (you are correct indeed though)
@RossM236 U make a very good point, and I know this. My point is if you are buying this card and using it in a 2.1 slot, you are honestly wasting time and money. You will have ppl complaining saying "this card sucks, its worse than my old card" and thats because again, you should be using this card in a 3.0 slot. I have done my research and you will see performance drops. My opinion, get that 6000 series card. Unless you have a 3.0 mobo, this card is a waste. Research before you buy
If you're on a budget - get a lower-end 7K card. If you'd get more performance for the money, it'd just be better to save up - the newer features will benefit most people [better AF, compute power, etc.] and drivers will mature and probably make the card faster than the 6K card that one may be planning to purchase. In the end, as a user, you'd thank yourself doing that. Cutting corners never works.
