@drixp1 It's one of my favorites as well, but then my musician husband pointed out the structure was a simple descending minor progression. Sacrilege! But really, how many composers could take that simple progression and turn it into something this glorious? I'd be curious about the recording or conductor is it's being conducted live. Would have liked to see a ballerina with that arabesque/line dance this.
@minissa2009 watch Barishnokov & Kirkland. Grand pas de deux from 1977. They put a different spin on iy. Instead of the sugar plum fairy it's, clara, the prince & uncle drosselmeyer, who's trying to yake clara home, while she struggles to stay with her price. She has amazing extensions, leaps etc. This is my absolute favorite composition from the nutcracker!
@oneill9875 Thanks, glad you agree! It seems to give more impact to the music itself. It makes the whole story of love more powerful. Too bad she wakes up & it's just a dream!

@darlaandme47 That was great I just viewed it and having Clara instead of the Sugar Plum Fairy was a nice twist!

I think you mean a descending major scale! That is about as simple as it gets, yet it is beautiful. That is what is special about it.
Joseph Hadyn starts a symphony with what is an ascending major scale. Just as simple, yet also beautiful!
