@jchang33 I don't. I think he just kind of expanded on some of the ideas that Sean had in Human. Human was Death getting progressive, and Hoglan just kept with the progressive themes and did fills to kind of fit that theme. It sounds similar to Sean's work but there are many things that Gene did totally differently than Sean on this album. I can see why you would think he ripped off Sean though.
I understand if people don't like Chucks vocals, but the lyrics he spews out are some of the deepest and most real lyrics you will ever read by ANY band.

July 1993, I just turned 12. I was out swimming with friends when my step-dad showed up. "wanna go to a concert?" "hecka!". Next thing I knew, we were driving 150 miles south to San Francisco to go see Death, Gorefest, Thanatopsis, and some other bands @ The Stone in San Francisco (a couple years before it burned down). Gawd....thems were the days.
The relatablity of the emotions in a song compared to the emotions of Holden Caulfield in A Catcher in the Rye. It actually made a lot of sense, too. XD

@TeknophagistMusic - I disagree, at-least Necrophagist is "Groovy" like Death and Meshuggah- gives us room to Headbang with. Bands like "the Faceless" seem to only want to make things complex for the sake of it, but I can sometimes appreciate it for what it is. Its just nice to have some longer groove lines with the mathematical brutality :).

All I've heard about Braindrill is that they are really crappy for tech death. If anything, Nile is where it's at. (the technicality anyways). Nile is extremely technical, the drummer is insane, and they still manage to keep it catchy.

actually, they're a shitty version of technical. Listen to their musical influence with a musical ear, it's barely any musical dominant changes or any advanced theory. You are right about necrophagist, they are fucking amazing. Seriously... the theory involvement is INSANE. like Diminished To B, all based on B diminished. All I've heard about Braindrill is that they are really crappy for tech death. If anything, Nile is where it's at. (the technicality anyways). Nile is extremely technical, the drummer is insane, and they still manage to keep it catchy.

its a mindfuck to try to pick apart musically. they are all extremely talented, but the music almost sounds like an original nintendo on crack. once you get used to it though its not bad.

@saturnian74 This and The Sound Of Perseverance are probably Death's most technical and progressive albums out of all their releases with Symbolic as a close second to both of them.
