Very much Pop that became Jazz Funk and then Smooth Jazz!! But they are happy to play any of those styles now...

  • i used to have hair like that gurl......... now it only grows on my bak n ears

  • xxxxxx You goose xx

  • Shakatak was a one of the luckiest band. Because they're a few bands that can balanced an artistry and commercial music.

They didn't succumb and falling to commercial and turned to be money-maker band but losing their inspiration. The same thing as Level 42 fell from before.

I disgusted the lip-sync & playback live. Glad that they didn't appear to TOTP again. Because the band deserved to be excellent live-show bands. Not record label puppet.

  • Wow! She's got a hair visor. This is so cheesy it makes me feel wrong.

  • So soulful...beautiful!!

  • grandi Shakatak

    bei ricordi dell'state 04!!!

  • love it

  • makes me way to shake my bootaaaay !

Oh God, the music of the past was really better !

  • Me fascina esta cancion!!! they're awesome!!!!!

  • Got the idea for their name from Jaws film so I heard anyway !

  • The band was named after a record store in south London...which, I believe, no longer exists.

  • It's a problem nawadays becouse she is

    looking older now dude!

    anyway she's great!

  • @LeonGrinberg LOL course she is looking older it WAS 26 years ago !!!

When they were live it was rumoured she was going TOTALLY Commando at the gigs where she wore a long raincoat, hold that thought and breathe out ................

  • @Protechflyer1

I didn't ment enything bad about her man.

if you could'nt see i wrote that she great,

no metter how old she is. it eas my opinion for the other guy ok......

  • Great stuff pre Swing Out Sister. You know, Swing Out Sister had some US success why couldn't they?

  • lol, very true, never made the connection

  • kik-ass tune!

  • Los vi actuar en vivo en Studio 54 BCN..........Que tiempos!!! Those where the days :))

  • I have a similar performance of this one shown on TOTP2 from 2001 !!

  • "Pop Goes the Band" March 30th Living TV to be repeated Sunday 5th April. Shakatak was by far the best of all the 6 six shows - totalling entertaining, hillarious - you will laugh all he way through and watch it again and again - well done Shakatak.

  • Total disco inferno amazing was 16yrs old when this was out... Class

  • Please can i borrow someones time machine, i want to go back to this era, fab music, clothes, and the hair, OMG!!

  • @falamimire I am going to email Doc Brown from back to the future, he may have a spare flux capasitor hanging round somewhere!!! Wouldn't that be ace!!

  • @louieeyes Vey good idea and I shall be the first one to buy a ticket to "back to the PAST"- who will come with me with a huge list of old souvenirs of the 80's

  • @louieeyes My God, how I love the girl style , the music , that time, my brilliant and good time.. Amanda, If you will find the time machine give me know, I want to go there too and may be with you if you want :-))

  • I'm getting dizzy from recalling these tunes from the mid '80s. Loved those yrs. of music.

  • Great!

  • what a great band stands the test of time!!

  • Skaka & 42, simply the best UK Funk bands.....

  • Big hair and lots of pastel makeup..those were the daze!!!!

  • Have loved this for years but always thought the singer was black until now!

  • I love the 80s !! i was 20 when this came ...good times.

  • Great soul song!!

  • Geeez, I was Nine years old at this time (1984) and knew it would be the kind of musiK i would still listen today (FUNK, BOOGIE, SOUL).

  • this is sooo cool, love this band

  • Musicians looked happy then, now its all about looking moody and cool, when did music become miserable

  • i agree, the 80s and 90s were happier times for music.

  • Thanks, Music can be the same as then, as long as we have the right artists and right consumers

  • One under rated Lady , very ,very ,talented .

    Sexsymbol number 1 !

  • Saw the TV facelift article in the Daily Mail. Looking forward to seeing Jill slipping back into this little blue dress when Living TV show the programme "Bands Go Pop" - did she or didn't she that is the quesion ???

  • british jazzfunk at its best!!!

  • great band. what a sound and a voice !

  • and the piano

  • What beautiful song!!

  • Come on, how many people were waiting for them to say "where the faces shine" in a really corny wail?

  • i was :)

  • i love this song...

  • wow i love this song ! thanks !

  • also, you're suggesting that the demise of youtube will come about through people acknowledging their misdeeds and apologising for them.next time,my conscience can get fucked.

  • was there seriously a butterfly called a blatspanner? or am i in danger of being hoisted by my own petard?

  • okay, even i'm not callous enough to keep this going: my brother is alive and well, all that stuff about him being kicked to death was cruel, cruel nonsense. genuine apologies if that freaked you out.read my other postings and see what a bullshitter i am.

  • blatspanner, you are not a bullshitter. You are really, really sick.

  • can't i be both?

  • I guess you are both a bullshitter - which is a mild expression for what you are doing- and very, very sick. poor blatspanner butterfly after which you named yourself. It is people like you who will evenutally be responsible for the demise of youtube. Think about it. Do not abuse your freedom or you may lose it.

  • wow, excellent comment dude!!

  • president 152,my brother was attacked and killed by a gang singing shakatak songs in 1983. they kicked him until his kidneys failed and he died in his own urine.you might want to think about that when you propagate pro-shakatak nonsense.

  • I am deeply sorry to hear about what happened to your brother, as I am sure the group itself, other Shakatak fans & any decent human being would be. I hope the vile people concerned were caught, brought to justice and dealt with very severely. Obviously I was unaware of your situation, & was merely trying to say that is good to see other fans of the music (which is very good in my opinion) sharing our interests here. No disrespect was meant to your brother's memory.

  • Oh no.. terrible. My brother too got slapped by a group of Kajagoogoo fans who were singing 'never ending story'. We did however get them back with a Human League 12' remix, so maybe theres hope for you...

  • thankyou for having a sense of humour.united we shall prevail against the funk-pop scourge.

  • Humour? You've obviously never seen a man have his nuts sliced off with a 12' disc of vinyl.

  • i have,and it was hilarious. the record,by the way,was 'papa's got a brand new pig-bag'.

  • Shakatak Fantastic I did see them live at the falcrum in Slough when down on the street was in the uk charts it was a great gig. There best album has to be Night Birds but i think they are all good in my opinion

  • Great to see this and other Shakatak fans around on the site. I have just got permissiom from Roger Odell to upload a selection of Shakatak vodeos on here. Please check my channel over the coming days for Shakatak additions.

    Best...

  • Whats this about UK Slags ?

How dare you mouth Jill Saward .

Come to Blackpool and I will make your head bleed you no good shit !!

This woman has an Army behind her .

  • im sure that the girs singing are the uk slags session singer as most of the band were might be wrong but i do own 2 albums which say somthing along thoses lines

  • Back in the 80's when I first heard it,I used to think this song and Mel & Kim's 'Showing Out' were by the same group. I was wrong. Love both these groups, Shakatak and Mel & Kim.

  • as a student I saw them live !!!!

  • Its a shame coz they are a great band being held back by the ageing singer.

  • A great band made by their ageing singer .

This woman can still perform 110%

Her talent , charisma and looks still overcome.

  • That's what this decade is missing, mature artists (note: artists) who can sing, and have fun...

and not put ALL energy into posing, so

    FUCK YEAH!! GO AGE!!!!!

    ;)

  • Unfortunately the girl singer has doubled her weight since 1984...

  • Haven't we all :-)...well maybe not doubled the weight but certainly a couple of love handles.

  • ahh well, I'd still give her one ;)

  • Join the club so would I !!!!!!!

  • anchorman13 is correct one of the uk slags and earned the name quite honourably so go ahead give her one, I have !!

  • better than shalamar, who were around at the same time

  • love this group.the 1st jazz group i fall in love with.

  • FANTASTIC GROUP!

  • is that her real hair, if its a wig where can i by it, i'll use it for a drag act.

  • I remember being in a night club in my home town, and they did a Saturday night promo appearance, circa 1986/7; the only problem was, that only Jill Saward appeared! Bill Sharpe was 'ill', I think ;-)

It resulted in her desperately trying to rope blokes in to dance with her, as she mimed to their latest release & this track (with the women bitching about what she was wearing, her make-up, etc lol)

The life of a pop idol, right enough! lol

  • Wow! Where was this home town of yours? And you mentioned "Bill Sharpe" is this of the same "Numan and Sharpe"?

  • Just a small town in the UK; plenty of groups (mainly on the slide, popularity-wise) made those kind of promo plugs back then i.e. 10mins in there, then grab the money & run! lol

And yes, it was the same Bill Sharpe.

  • A classic tune! Fantastic music and singing.

  • god bless the 80's....best decade ever!!!!!

  • Shakatak are a good band - still going strong after all those years. Check out their back catalogue - loads of real quality stuff. I saw them live at Dean St Pizza Express in February.

  • I used to think they were a bit corny not prpoer jazz funk but it sounds so cool now. I wish I had a time machine I just go back and relive those days again

  • Shakatak are so underatted today...loved kajagoogoo and wham too but dont tell anyone!!

  • Night birds, Invitation, Down on the street... Shakatak was the first jazz funk band i was listened. Now i love that music.

  • I love Shakatak. I've inherited the vynil album 'Night Birds' and 2 tapes 'Invitations' and 'Down on the Street' from my Dad who also love them, God rest his soul. I'll always remember dancing to 'Down on the Street' on TOTP at the age of 12/13 in my parents living room. Excellent musicians - Excellent music:)

  • Cool - it reminds me on my Abitur in 1985

  • George's bass is well made - built to last and looking good just like him !!!

  • hey...i agree ... lets share the news ..did you meet him like me .... he is my dream and i am sure many knows he plays well and not just the bass guitar ***** .... i have news he is not married anymore *** ..... hey cool ... shakatak are coming to tokyo again and now im going crazy ....

  • let you in on a little secret here... Jills big Hair wasnt real!! lol
