they should remake this... i can't stand the ancient style -_-... it was made 18 years before i was born... actually they just need to make a GOOD modern space anime.
In Starblazer, Wildstar's bro makes a heroic stand so Avatar can escape. In the original, he basically calls Avatar as coward for not fighting. Love it.
Classic. I've been meaning to watch this for years. Nice look back into a time where sci-fi was more to the imagination then trying to make it seem realistic
@nexivdr oh my god i can't believe how illiterate some american people are. you really have no fucking clue of the world outside of the states (or inside as well in this case). it's the ONE AND ONLY country where all this great pieces of art and goods come from. and that distinctive style of art is self-explanatory. it's the language of that same country, you wouldn't even find on the world map. hint: sony is from that country. the 'Dramatic Chipmunk" video as well. even rock-paper-scissors

Space battleship Yamato, the West would NEVER bring back an enemy ship of that size they would never allow it it would be for the US to do this it would be the Arizona at pearl harbour that they would bring back I just know it, or have the Montana Class battleship, it was never built but it was big
Japan’s Asahi news service has filed a brief report stating that Yoshinobu Nishizaki has passed away after reportedly falling overboard from a ship sailing near the Chichijima islands in Ogasawara, Tokyo around 12:30PM local time. Nishizaki was best known for producing the Space Battleship Yamato series, known in the US as Star Blazers
I loved Star Blazers in the 70"s. I ran home from school to see it, or it came on early morning. I fell in love with Robotech and anime in the 80's because of it. I have wanted to see the original because I enjoy the real anime now not the edited version for western audiences. I am looking forward to this series again in the original (but with subtitles)
according to Wikipedia, George Lucas acknowledges that the plot and characters in the 1958 Japanese film The Hidden Fortress were a major inspiration. if you have an interest in it, look at my favorites (George Lucas talks about the influence of samurai movies on Star Wars).
@SamuraiTogo SW took a lot of things from a lot of sources. Lucas himself admitted that his most important inspiration was, along with Kurosawa´s movie, Flash Gordon serial (just look at the rolling text intro and a lot of the designs!), and the french comic Valerian (Han Solo and the Millenium Falcon are almost exact copies of Valerian and his ship, not to speak about the design of alien species)
@ppp1000p High box office revenue doesn't indicate quality.
While I did enjoy the movie, the third act just felt needlessly brutal and the ending is downright anticlimactic; the TV series version of the story at least brought more satisfying closure to the story.
Is it better to watch this, or Space Battleship Yamato, the movie? I know the movie is a compilation of the first season, but was just curious if watching the whole season is better for explaining some things?
I remember how this left an image upon me- I remember how it was about story- in 1978 it was unique. I remember the cape over one shoulder was cool. A group of kids in my group must have seen the same episodes . We would have accepted any hard-core thing you presented.
It only came to NZ on VHS in the early 80's, but it was unknown as all anime was at the time. But by chance I came across it while in college, and watched it many times wondering if I would see this and more in the coming months? But it never came out!! now as the i guess last fleet battle with earth forces, how com the , i think smaller earth ships which seemed to be a torpedo destroyers didn't all breake and attack? next why didn't the battleship fire all five gun turrets at one gamilan to get through the enemy armour
i wonder if the battleship had fired all five turrets at that one gamilan could they have destroyed it???
I was 5 years old in 1978 when it began airing in the U.S. I cried when I missed the first episode. Still the best kids cartoon series ever made, I think. I watched them all while getting ready for school. Ahh, fond memories.

There's like 3 seasons. The better ones are the first (plot) and the second (better designs). The third one isn't that popular or good it seems. I believe each season had 26 episodes...
Good old anime theme songs are a lot like national anthem - the wonderful 2nd - 4th verses almost never get hearing.
Guys, get to know the unsung verses of your national anthem; you'll learn more about your nation and her heritage. (Not applicable to Japanese one as I hear it has only a single verse.)
I never said I hated the title of the anime. In fact i love how the named it that cause the battleship in WWII was amazing. Its just probably wouldnt be the best idea to name a space battleship after a real battleship that was also thought to be near invincible, but was destroyed.
As in "Nuts to you!" which is an American colloquialism similar to "Get lost" or "Forget you". Essentially announcing that you do not care what they say or do you are going to do things your way.
I suppose "Nuts" might also have meant "You're nuts!" Saying that means you think the other person is insane. So maybe the Americans meant "You're insane to think we'll surrender"
The scene in Space Battleship Yamato was obviously intended to evoke this event.
It's so retro...i love it!

The 6th line again -
"they are counting on us."
Good old anime theme songs are a lot like national anthem - the wonderful 2nd - 4th verses almost never get hearing.
Guys, get to know the unsung verses of your national anthem; you'll learn more about your nation and her heritage. (Not applicable to Japanese one as I hear it has only a single verse.)

space battleship yamato have NO connection with WW2. are you stupid?
zukaruteutoka 3 years ago
except for the name and the fact that its a huge batlleship. Why dont you go look it up?
l0nelydude 3 years ago
if you hate this title of anime. you better only watch "star Blazers " which are really sucks export version.

I never said I hated the title of the anime. In fact i love how the named it that cause the battleship in WWII was amazing. Its just probably wouldnt be the best idea to name a space battleship after a real battleship that was also thought to be near invincible, but was destroyed.

"Yamato" means "Japan." Hope it solves the mystery.

There are zillions of things which include the word "Yamato" in Japan, although not as common as finding the word "America" in USA.

One word: classic.

"This is Earth command ship 225. Idiots. Over.!"
Hilarious!

I heard American really said that to Germans during the WW.
Hesuku 3 years ago
Actually they said: "Nuts!"
