I'm german and I live in a region where this is our dialect.

It's just incredible for me that our dialect also exists in Brasil because I haven't known it before.

Most germans are unaware of the massive german immigration to southern Brazil between 1824 and 1870.

The immigration was promoted by Princess Leopoldina, daughter of the Austrian-Hungarian Emperor. She married the brazilian Emperor (Dom Pedro I, of the Portuguese Royal House) and they promoted german immigration to southern Brazil, which was quite empty (and vulnerable to invasions) back then.

many foreigners think that the only germans in Brazil are nazis who fled after World War 2. It couldnt be FARTHER from the truth.

In fact, the ONLY REASON nazis fled to Brazil and Argentina was because the 2 countries had big and widespread german colonies long before WW2, including some distant relatives.

@ZuckZuck12345 if you pay attention ONLY to brazilian football, you may think all brazilians are dark skinned. (you would think the same of americans watching only american basketball).

but if you ever watched (at the Olympics for example) brazilian volleyball, tennis, swimming, basketball, etc, you will start to have a different view of Brazil´s population.

PS: guess the name of the two best ever brazilian basketball players? Oscar Schmitt and now Tiago Splitter.

@zaitsev1972 Para sua informação, as colônias alemãs que foram formadas em Santa Catarina são, na sua grande maioria, compostas por luteranos. A imigração para cá foi muito antes da 2 guerra mundial. A primeira leva de imigrantes chegou em São Pedro de Alcântara em 1829.

Este é o verdadeiro dialeto falado na Colônia de São Pedro de Alcântara e que foi preservado pelos descendentes dos primeiros imigrantes de 1829. Ainda há pessoas no interior que só falam este dialeto. Ele é diferente de todos os outros falados no Estado de Santa Catarina e Rio Grande do Sul. Parabéns! Dat es schön wida híera.

Então, esse dialeto Alemão é de uma região que fica próxima da França. Por isso absorveu algumas coisas, como o Herrstahlhoefer disse. E não ao contrário.

Eu falo muito pouco o alemão (Hochdeutsch) e entendi mais ou menos até o 1min/ 1:15.
