  • isn't the track gauge in Japan 3 ft 6 inches?

  • @Amtrak1194 The bulk of it is 3'6". The high speed is all standard gauge. There are numerous railway companies in Japan and quite a variety of gauges in use. As a for instance the Sangi RR runs electric EMU trains on one line on 2'6".

  • THANK

  • is that the chitose line

  • @Liamted2000 It is.

  • Nice collection! That weird-looking train at 3:08 is a DMU? :O

  • really great video. thanks.

  • I suppose one needs to be "into" the rail thing, but I found this more than a little interesting (the above-average cam work helped, as well as my unfamiliarity with Japanese rail beyond the obvious Bullet Train stuff). Double points for whoever withstood the snowy cold to shot this. (Ask me why I know how hard this is...)

  • @amateriat I shot it, love the snow scene and going to Japan. Now tell me about your experiences in the snow, I'm curious.

  • Fk when i was on the train it went like 45

  • From my understanding most commercial trains have a speed limit of 115 km/h right?

  • @NattapatZ Depends entirely on which country you are in. The fastest that I have seen in Japan on the 3'6" is 130km/h. The new Keisei airport link to Narita will be 160km/h and of course the shinkansens are up to 300km/h. I would suggest that most developed countries are running at least 160km/h on main routes these days.

  • @Rocketboy1950 Well, i was in Japan for several months, most JRs and Hankyus in Kansai area doesn't go above 115 km/h. I do know that the maximum speed varies in different areas, but i've just never seen a "standard" commercial train going above 115 km/h in Japan before.

Yep, in my country (Thailand), we are still using the old school diesel-locos for hauling coachs :(

  • @Rocketboy1950 Here in the Netherlands they are planning to do 160 km/h on main routes, but to my opinion the railnetwork of my country is just too dense for that.

They are talking about it for a long time already, but PT-business takes a very long time in most cases: always costs more than the initial budget, and the time a project had to be finished is always delayed by about 40 to 100 % of the initial time ;)

  • makes me wish i could ride these expresses one day..especially cassiopia or hokutosei

  • Trains in Japan is just too great.

  • @Rocketboy1950

I like this video, but you seem rather rude.

  • Only in response to idiots and the idiot has removed his comments so you didn't see what I was responding to. I can be equally nice but I have a very low tolerance for stupid people making offensive comments.

  • Lucky it didn't hit that pole at 2:34! Skillful driver hehe.

  • @empiler1 How is that skillfull? You cannot steer a train :o.

  • @brybc4 coming from the fucking retard armed with a computer?

  • they're express trains... they're not stopping because they don't stop at this particular station...express trains in japan skip stations in order to arrive at others faster. Why don't you read the description of the video before you judge. Dumbass.......

  • It never fails to amaze me that the intelligentsia manage to make such eloquent observations on other peoples work and yet appear to lack either the initiative or know how to make and post a video themselves.

  • shortly after came the invention os anti-lock breaks...phfft dimwits

  • Yep, and anti lock BRAKES are commonly fitted to modern trains.

  • Japan has the most amazing railway lines and rolling stock in the world. Bar none!

  • At about 1:50 it appears that 2 switch engines are pulling a passenger train. I've never seen that before.

  • Whilst they may have the appearance of an old style US switcher these are main line locos. Most Japanese diesel locos have that shape. They are of course also used for switching work.. Have a look at some of the clips by go2batayan , you will see these on freight work in Hokkaido

  • 1:46

That is the Twilight Express! (the most luxurious train in Japan)

I want to ride on it just once in my life...

  • These passing trains are airport rapid service & long distance Express.

Local service trains are stopping that station, you can see.

  • wtf is this? stop 4 what?

    can't stop in the snow?

  • Not related to Einstein by any chance ? wtf does it look like you cretin.

  • maybe u should have bought a ticket.

how about a "trains will be stopping" vid?

  • Maybe I had a ticket, how do you think I got there

  • its not about how u got there, this is about getting out of there. the trains r not stopping so u can't leave.

  • Stop, think.......how did I get there

  • at 0:11 a green striped train, #F-3015, is shown stopped!

    this was your train?

  • No, they stop here every few minutes. The long distance and airport expresses do not.

  • thanx 4 the info.

  • Proper title: These trains will NOT be stopping. lolz

  • Perfect.

  • Very strange sounding horns they have!

  • Public transportation at its best!!!

  • would love to see uk trains run in that snow! :D

  • I spent 4 minutes watching this, and I dont know why. Still... I found it enjoyable.

  • Wow... I didnt know that it snows overthere.

  • It snows everywhere on the planet above and below certain latitudes.

  • Are you serious, dude? Sapporo is known for getting lots of snow. I mean...I'm from Toronto and I thought we already get lots of snow...turns out we average 130cm a year while the mighty Sapporo gets somewhere around 600cm.

  • Two months or more would go by in my area to see soo many trains, and they would not be passengers anyways.

Way better than stupid cars. I would not waste time watching videos about them.

Most train shown here are electrics powered?

Snow plowers are sure busy with each passing train bringing them more work....:)

    Thank you for this movie.

  • On the Yamanote Line a train comes every two minutes.

  • ahhhh green line

this vid made me reminisce about JR station announcements. thanks for the memory trip

  • They actually come at irregular intervals. Two minute intervals are few and far between. Mostly three or four.

    Check it out on HYPERDIA

  • Nice!

  • Any idea what the loco-hauled train was at 1:50?

  • The Twilight Express from Osaka. It's an overnight sleeper.

  • Cheers Rod.
