He wrestled Poeta when he was still in high school at the midlands and lost to him again in the finals of the Big Ten Championships his true freshman year. @swimhurl I think the 2011-2012 Welch would probably get a major or tech fall over this Welch. As for why people don’t do the same things as Poeta is because Poeta in my opinion is one of the best wrestlers to have not won an NCAA title.

@swimhurl Cael did not wrestle at the Schultz because it is the final push of the college season. Beyond anything else that is his main priority. I think it is about 50/50 if he even tries for the Olympics. I would put the percentage higher if they win the NCAA tournament.
As for Randy I don’t see him ever competing again. He had a mild stoke this year.

He is a very smart wrestler that was too big for 74 kilo and too small for 85 kilo. Herbert is a stud but his Achilles heal is his ability to scramble...

So what you have is a bigger stronger version of Cael at this point. Varner always had solid defense and now his offence has elevated to match his defense...

I have been around wrestling as a competitor and a fan since the early 1970s. I have only seen three other guys that I would say were better that Welch in high school. Dave Shultz, Cary Kolat and Jordan Oliver and even those guys did not have his gas tank...

I would love to see him compete in freestyle on the international level but I don’t think that is going to happen. He would have to adjust the funk style, drop down to 66 and incorporate more upper body moves. I think he could do it but I don’t think he can make 66 and he is too small for 74...

@swimhurl Brooks Kopsa was either a red shirt freshman or could not crack the line up at Iowa. Schools like Iowa have a lot of guys that you will never really hear about because they end up basically being training dummies for the starters in the room. In fact I can’t remember seeing Kopsa ever start for Iowa...

@swimhurl Yes they are both great scramblers. Welch is much more defensive about employing the funk where as Askren lived off the funk from every position. Welch is a much better athlete than Askren but Askren has the best mat awareness that I have ever seen. That is why he has become such a good submission grappler with only a couple of years doing it...

First off he is so tall for the weight class that the normal moves that work on everybody don’t work on him because you have to put in that extra 4-6 inches. What I found worked for me on a guy that tall was going to the body using a duck under and high crotch so I did not get caught underneath Welch needs to forget about that match and not let it get into his head...
@swimhurl As for the gas tank thing every match that I have seen Welch wrestle I have yet to see his pace slow from beginning to end. Shultz was never a gas tank guy what he had was unbelievable technique and could physically hurt anyone he wrestled. I have seen Oliver gas out a few times, Kolat always had a pretty good tank but not on Welch’s level. His ability to push the pace is very close to Brent Metcalf’s...

i wrestled collins once his senior year. he pinned me 1.52 in to the first period. bland beat collins every time. welch wrestled up and beat collins horribly. this whole process is pretty depressing

The last two high school kids jason lost to would be
Lewis Gonzales Turlock High school, Jason lost something like 11 - 3. Jason was a freshman and Gonzales was a senior , lost in the state finals.

Luke Manuel Nevada Union High school. Jason lost by only one or two points in the finals at five counties.. Manuel was a senior and jason was a sophmore

Bland was at a wrestling tournament, and I badly wanted to see him wrestle. Problem is, we both were 189, I didn't wrestle him, and I had to watch him after I had wrestled, and he like pinned everyone first round, first minute. I didn't see a single match; I was pissed.
SO crazy, what my friends josh me about is that my stance is like Jason's (horrible), and I did the splits in a match. But I didn't even make varsity freshman year. So my friends always tell me I'm Welch but retarded....
I go to Mission San Jose HS in Fremont CA. So I see him at least 5x a year in tournaments.

The last two high school kids jason lost to would be
Lewis Gonzales Turlock High school, Jason lost something like 11 - 3. Jason was a freshman and Gonzales was a senior , lost in the state finals.
and
Luke Manuel Nevada Union High school. Jason lost by only one or two points in the finals at five counties.. Manuel was a senior and jason was a sophmore
other than those two i can't think of any other high school kids he has lost to???

Bland was at a wrestling tournament, and I badly wanted to see him wrestle. Problem is, we both were 189, I didn't wrestle him, and I had to watch him after I had wrestled, and he like pinned everyone first round, first minute. I didn't see a single match; I was pissed.

SO crazy, what my friends josh me about is that my stance is like Jason's (horrible), and I did the splits in a match. But I didn't even make varsity freshman year. So my friends always tell me I'm Welch but retarded....
I go to Mission San Jose HS in Fremont CA. So I see him at least 5x a year in tournaments.

fuck central catholic, they get to recruit and shit, soo they have like all there sports teams are like allstar teams. like fuckin football, and wrestling. they should be in division 1, not divison 5. they fucked up our six consecutive section championships. i thought we would win it for the seventh time, but they beat us in the semi-finals. oh and us is Calaveras High, nobodys ever heard of it, soo yea.

if your from calaveras high as in being in the MLL you havent won 6 consecutive section championships. the only team from the MLL to win a section championship was oh yeah ARGONAUT where i went. but if your not from that calaveras then i apologize. but if you are ur a moron and need to stop makin shit up
