love this song! it's a really catchy melody! i've spent most of my life listening to other music besides my own country, so now i've got like a music list dat i wan to try out, dis just happens to be the first song i searched! if you can upload more song it would be really great for my list!
I love this song. I'm going to be doing a remix of it and try very very hard emphasize her singing. Where can I find a picture of the woman who sang this song? I keep finding different pictures, I don't know which one is actually her.
Hi Jeffmagic I really really love that tree flower at the end of this video.. I would like to know the name of that flower tree with that HummingBird sucking on. It so beautiful and where is this tree are growing at. Is it in Cambodia?
Thank you so much. I am Cuban American and this song makes me cry every tie i hear it. maybe it is because we both know war and lost love. I don't know. thank you again.
can someone recommend more Khmer music like this for me?
I am not sure how to advise you, since there are so many Khmer oldies songs, in every imaginable genre. The best advise I can give is to check out some other songs here on youtube. Check out some songs I have uploaded or favorited, and songs from my friends and people I subscribe to. If you have any slightly more specific questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Papamalo, i suggest you type "Oun Nuk kern thae", "Srey na praujun pdey", "merl Maeyk merl srey" for a start.. and a warm welcome to the world of khmer music!
right after the Khmer rouge were overthrown, people would sing this roamvong song at wedding receptions. it was just us longing for our own past before it was snatched away by Pol Pot.
this song remind of the past during khmer rouge struggles and make me sad but can't cry because i can not forgive myself to the dark pass. i use to listen to this during labor camp. when they play at the ground .
This is quite possibly one of the 10 greatest songs ever written. From death comes life, from life comes death. The birds chirping. Humanity doesn't get better than this.
I post a comment on the same song on the other video. But I'm going to post a comment again. B/c I really love this song!!When I listen to the oldies music, it just makes me feel at peace. Its not only touches my heart but grabbed my soul. That is one of the main reason why I gotta say this..I'm so proud to be Koun Khmer and all my ancestors who created what and who we are now today! We are truly blessed!!And I'm very thankful!!
the birds are chirping, to and fro, my love, have you forgotten me? as water can't cut through the sand, i can't cut you out of my memeories, The bridge( between you and i) has broken, the pathway is gone, and the water to cross is so very deep, how am i to find you on the other side, so far away? though this isn't an exact translation, i think it ads more sentiment and is easier to understand to a forgiener. Khmer phrases and notions aren't the same as western ones.
i've only heard the covers and always thought it was a duet like most khmer songs. please email the song to me. i rather not rip it directly off the video.

Amazing song.
The structure reminds me - very very strangely - of a couple of Dylan classics from 1965-66 ('She's Your Lover Now' and 'One of Us Must Know').
Maybe it's just the piano or something.
This is even better.

does anyone have a translation of the lyrics?
thanks.

All I can tell you is the gist of it is:
"Birds are singing but my lover won't return"
From the cambodian cassette archives.
Chilling song considering that Vanna was one of the few pop artists to survive the Rouge years.
Any people who have translations or even khmer lyrics to these songs please MESSAGE ME! =|

The birds are singing & talking.
My love, have you forgotten me?
The water runs along the sand,
my heart can't forget you.
The bridge is broken,
the water is deep.
How am I supposed to go look for you?
:)
