@FlamingKillamajig We see Marius' side of the tale because through him we see the Prime Evils for what they are to everyone who isn't a great hero like the players character.

These cinematics are there to provide an insight into the Prime Evils and their effect on the world of Sanctuary, not to be "epic".

I think this is something Blizzard forgot as well if you look at the new cinematics, they don't show of the terror of the demons, they are blandly "epic" in a non epic way.

In a nutshell, though, he was able to influence the Zarakum to shatter his crystal. Six shards were impaled into the council members' hands to control them, and the seventh embedded in the High Priest, whom he then possessed much like Diablo did the Warrior from the first game.

yeah, look for 'The Sin War' trilogy, by Richard A. Knaak.

Book one - 'Birthright'

Book two - 'Scales of the Serpent'

Book three - 'The Veiled Prophet'

they're basically set before the 'Diablo' series but contain some of the characters, Tyrael, Diablo, Baal, Mephisto etc. and follow the story of a human and his allies torn between the 'Sin War' between the angels and demons over human control. they're a pretty damn good read and add alot more depth to the game story!

Baal was basically grinding away at Tal Rasha's soul for a very long period of time

Prime Evils like that.

Maybe marius failed, but I'm impressed. Sneaking his way into the temple (That was supposed to be sealed) through the jungles and into the gathering without being noticed or 'sensed', while a level 19 hero can't walk two steps without being ambushed.

But It's not like Marius can just sprint his way into the portal, there are two prime evils there that would freeze you in fear just by looking at them, and waiting there would mean risking discovery. I mean they would only stand there for so long.

I just have to say, I love Paul Eiding's voice acting work. He voices Mephisto and the narrator from diablo games, judicator Aldaris from Starcraft 1 and Colonel Campbell from Metal Gear, among others. And I love the voice acting in every single case. :D
