돈이 없어서 집 밖에 나갈 수가 없어요. <--- Story of my life. xD Also, why is there a "가" between "수" & "없어요"? I thought it was just -ㄹ 수 없어요 if you wanted to express that you can't do something? :o

i dont quite understand "수가 없어요".

@hillcalf Hi! 수(가) 있다 (can) and 수(가) 없다 (cannot) are expressions of ability. ^_^; I don't know exactly why, but think of it as having / not having the ability to do something. Use it like this:

Verbs whose bases end in vowel sounds: add ㄹ 수가 있어요/없어요.

e.g., 쓰다 (to write) -> 한국말을 쓸 수 있어요? (Can you write Korean?)

Bases ending in ㄹ: add 수가 있어요/없어요.

e.g., 살다 (to live) -> 살 수가 있어요. (I can live.)

Bases ending in other consonants: add 을 수가 있어요/없어요.

e.g., 먹다 (to eat) -> 이걸 먹을 수 없어요. (I can't eat this.)
