Who is better?.........Wow! that´s a BIG QUESTION right?? I am not a drum expert, but the size of Bonzo´s kit is near the half of Neil´s Kit...and the technology in sound, pedals, (in the time of Bonzo, there weren´t hydraulic pedals) But my answer to that question...Maybe you can´t compare them cause they are totally different drummers
i wonder what bonzo's kit would look like now, bet he'd still be on trusty old green sparkle and would hate heaps of drums like some drummers have now
Peart has moved beyond mastering this art. This solo is 25 years old. add 25 years of progression to this and it will give you an idea of his skill level. I love Bonzo and wonder where he'd be in his skill if he were still with us.
Two totally different drummers and different music! Can't compare them. They're both great. Me personally, I'll take Bonham. At least with Bonzo it was unpredictable and exciting. With Peart, he replicated the solo's exactly the same way in every performance. Meh...
Neil's popularity went mercurial with the release of Moving Pictures in 1981 ... and The Bonzo Years and his stratospheric popularity occurred from 1969 to 1980. Anything each drummer did prior to these years of popularity, however outstanding it may have been, is unfamiliar and does not seem to be a determining factor here.
Bonham had more RAW power while Peart is more TECHNICAL, but both are truly amazing drummers. Given what John had for a kit 1969 - 1980 and what was available at the time of his death vs. all the bells and whistle Neil has added for enhanced sound, John's was by far a more stark kit, yet he got everything he could out of it. My vote, therefore, goes to Bonzo.
I totally agree.Peart has better technique, but there is something about Bonzo that makes him very, very special. Plus he played in the greatest rock band ever : )
if we're talking about sound, bonzo has the most sought after drum tone in history. forget all the things Neil Peart has on his kit, bonzo had the best sounding kit ever. as far as skill, they are both masters of their craft, so as much as you people love saying who's bettrr, you can't. it's all a matter of preference, and people love bonzo because, for one, he' deceased, and he IS the father of modern rock.
If Bonhams playing doesnt affect you emtionaly absorbed you to the point of chills goosebumps and tear, well then its very simple you don't get IT. its not meant for you.
To catphsh454 hit the nail on the Mufkn head FROZEN SHIT No better way descibe it.
Now a question, Whch of you master dummers(?) can identify the 2 differnt time signatures used in Led Zeps "The Ocean" Lets see who ot there can count
i admit that bonzo's drumming style has a very spiritual quality. i think that a lot of it had to do with the context in which he played because led zeppelin's music had a very spiritual quality to it. and the ocean is mainly in 4/4 time signature, but in the chorus it starts 4/4 and then alternates between 7/8. amazing stuff indeed. however, i will give neil peart credit that because he is in a progressive band he does also make notable use of compound time signatures.
that play on those songs? it's like comparing alex lifeson with david gilmour. alex can play faster and impress me with solos such as "la villa strangiato." and gilmour's solos give me chills more often because it's all soul. "comfortably numb" is a great example. alex couldn't play like david, and vice versa. so why compare peart and bonham? if you're a zepplin fan, that's great, and we understand who you like more. same for rush fans. why not accept that both are fantastic in their own ways?
his face. otherwise he wouldn't still play. and also, after being so successful he still went back and learned new styles. he's always trying to improve despite being great (and ALOT of drummers say neil influenced them, so its not like he's overrated). and bonham grooves better, i'm a rush fan and i'll admit that. but that's his style. two completely different drummers here. two completely different bands. for example, "Xanadu" and "Kashmir" sound nothing alike. why compare the two drummers
the entire concept of comparing these two drummers is ridiculous. it's obvious that the Rush fans will say Peart and the Zepplin fans will say Bonham. And some will just choose a side. It doesn't make one better than the other! For those that say Neil looks bored while playing and has no feeling, how do you know? Feeling can't be defined by only facial expressions. It's internal. I'm sure he puts all his emotion into every millisecond he plays, his hands and feet and heart show his feeling, not
john bonham was in a different league then that neil guy. peart is on a high school level since everyone and their mother can play like him note for note... bonham on the other hand was the man of independence, hopping his left foot at a constant as the right rabbit foot played counter melodies with hands, sticks or no sticks. John Bonham is the anatomy of a drum set and solo Peart is just tries. bonham grabs the bull by the horns!
B.S.!!! Neil played for almost 20 years without electronics and ran circles around everyone. It became elctronic because it was the 80's and the times/change. Try listening to the the Exit Stage left solo( a FULL solo, not like this half/cut off for video one)...then try and comment
Anything Neil was in before Rush is not likely to be what the majority of people can base their opinions on. An opinion cannot be give on Neil's 20 years of electronic playing if we never heard it (though I am sure it was amazing). Neil and John are two very different drummers but both are simply phenomenal.
Led Zeppelin is way better than Rush and last time i checked they have way more hits than Rush and Led Zeppelin was named the greatest rock band of all time.
What's next? John Paul Jones is a better bass player than Geddy Lee? Jimmy "sloppy joe" Page is cleaner player than Alex Lifeson. Yeah, I know Zepp had more popular songs and were and are radio friendly. So is Brittany Spears albums. Does that make her and her musicians the greatest. Apparrantly so if we're judgeing off that.
Rush has far more gold and platinum records then Led Zepp even though I find Led Zepp is more radio friendly too but in Europe they are EXTREMELY popular.
I challenge anyone that thinks Bonhman was better feel player or drum guru to search Rush Xanadu on youtube. Take any song off Rush Hold Your Fire album. Neil's drum placements, feel, style, odd time playing surpasses easily. Rush came out in early 70's and put it to everyone and still do pushing 60. Let's not forget he wrote all lyrics and is on numerous instrumentals he helped create with killer drum breaks. Bonham has moby dick and end of Rock n Roll to his credit for drum breaks.
Just because Neil doesn't "show" his emotions when playing doesnt mean he doesnt play with them or feel them. People ask me "are you happy?" all the time because Im never smiling, the thing is that Im usualy happy but I never smile.
Well we all have to admit, these guys are the top 2 drummers of all time and it's very difficult to tell which ones better. But for this video i think Bonzo gets a bit of an edge.
Rush, overrated? Youre an idiot. If anything, they're underrated. Zep is great too. Best drummer: Larry Mullen Jr. haha jk. Really though, Gavin Harrison.
Ofcourse you can't put two different genre's of drummers and compare them, ofcourse it's gonna cause controversy. I actually preffer Ian Paice wayyyy over Bonham, as I do Deep Purple to Led Zeppelin. You could compare maybe Mike Portnoy to Neil Pert, two different genres of prog. I think that would be a good battle i'm still not sure who would win I think Portnoy is perhaps the best but, that's just my opinion.
Lol if you think Neils drumming was busy and stale then you dont know anything about Music. I dont mean music as in listening to music...I mean the background and studies of music.
actually, I have been playing drums 14 years...and could probably school you on a few things bud...
Sorry ,I understand and appreciate Neils talent, but from a drummers standpoint, he's kinda boring to listen to...Bonham just had so much more feeling to everything he played., Niel sounds like he's playing everything off a chart...ech...
sorry...he's boring to listen to..thats all there is to it...if your not a drummer then I can see how someone would think..."Niel Peart is god man!!!"...but to someone whose seen a LOT of VERY GOOD drummers...Niel Peart is nothing fancy...busy...but very simplistic...and I have a LARGE Rush collection myself..so I know what he can do...but its still uninspiring...
yes and I am entitled to it...but again...Neil is pretty good..but gets dull as frozen shit in about 2 mins....I can listen to Bonham all day long....
All I am saying is Bonham's playing affects my emotions. That's what artists do. pierce your heart with joyous type of agony through their craft. Also visual aspects, as you call them, have nothing to do with it. Let me put it this; years ago every student drummer wanted to play like Mr. Peart.. And the man is a great drummer! No argument there. But, through practice and dedication they were able to copy his style. But to this day no one has been able to copy bonzo in any way.
How do you know that nobody can copy Bonzo's style? have you heard every drummer in the world? No you haven't. For all you know he's living next door to you rocking out right now.
1st if you knew ANYTHING about music you'd know ANYBODY can copy/NOBODY can inherit anyone's style. Did Satch or Vai take over for Van Halen!?!
Did Burton or Claypool take Bruce or Lee!?There was a time when everyone wanted to sound like those that they proceeded! It's called influence;but the great ones find their own and make something of it. NO ONE can say they have done as much for modern rock drumming as Peart.Flat out.And I've heard PLENTY copy Bonham (hit any Zep tributes in this world)
these 2 gentlemen are the best of the best percussionists whom ever lived. mr. bonham trance like factual expressions & body language during solos was so cool. he could do more with less than anyone & mr. peart working his incredible magic on his very complex system. thy both are a real joy 2 watch. you 2 have been most amazing & thank you 4 the awesome performances.
peart does very little in the way of projecting emotion through his playing. that's becuase he is a technician not an artist. Bonzo on the other hand gives me goose bumps. A true artist has passion fire and most of all launches emotion into your heart. He makes you feel not just hear. One Earth One Bonzo. We get only one of each. Best Drummer ever lived.
u actually believe niel is "technician not an artist." lol visual aspects of a person paformance is not what qualifies a music artists. its the audio aspects, precision & creativity. that really matters my friend. neil has also singly hand written & composed nearly every album track rush has ever released.
I wanted to add to my last post, I was fortunate enough to see Zep in NY in the 70's I am not taken anything away from Bohham. He was awesome with his style. What upsets me is that these people who had it made can't take responsibility with their lives. It was a shame.
the difference between the two drummers in my opinion is that one was smarter in how to take care of himself as a human and as a musician. Thats why he is still around kicking all other drummers to the curb.
this is pretty funny.. Look, both drummers are/were very good. Its really silly to fuss over who is better. But if you want to check out a REALLY good drummer... I mean REALLY REALLY, good... check out Gavin Harrison.
Well I am a HUGE RUSH FAN. and a led zeppelin fan as well. but peart is better in his style of druming. Same as joohn is better in his they are both very good. why are you fighting over whos better both bands are excelent in their style of music. Rush is good in a fast mellow sort of sound. and Led Zeppelin is good in their slower jazzy tone. Both verry good aat what they do.
if you did any research you would know that peart didnt always have a huge kit. he sounds good either way. and neils testicle hairs play better drums than bonham. everyone that dies young gets more respect despite the fact that they might not even be that good
okay, John Bonham is wayyy better than Neil Pert. Neil Pert is just over rated. Just cause he has a big drum set doesn't mean he is the best. Anyone who knows what they're doing can sound good on a huge drum set.. Rush is just over rated in genral. They're good but not THAT good. Bonham and zeppelin are beyond comparison bonham is the best because he doesn't need a huge drum set to prove his sheer domonation....John Bonham took shits that play drums better than neil pert he has way more talent!!
You can't compare the two. They both play different styles in different bands. Also one has passed away and one is alive still, so this video is just for entertainment.
All you people that think Peart is the best....its really getting annoying, if you're not a musician dont keep reading, first i'd like to say, if you are a musician and you really think hes the best, you've mustve never listened to jazz, check that out, cause any pro jazz drummer could beat him, next Bonham definitely beats Peart, pearts got nothing to em, been doing the same solo since the 80s, bonhams triplets alone, beat peart for me, IMO, best rock drummer, Mitch Mitchell from Jimi Hendrix
It's a trigger with his foot. He does a lot of that, as well as triggers from his Roland v-drums at times. In more modern solos he does a lot more sound triggers.
I am a Doctor and I would like to enrol you in a study because I didn't think it possible to surf the net for youtube while high on crack cocaine. Bonhams dead 30 years but he has a much higher number of google pages and is held in higher regard by both drummers and other musicians. Frankly your granny must be a mix of Lenny Bruce and Richard Pryor...
a match often brought up to me, both are famous for very good reasons. neil is about impression, john is about expression. i've noticed that i turn up the volume much more often for zeplin. *me> drumming 30 min - 2 hrs every day, last 35 yrs. thank you JHB .
First off, I'd like to say that I'm a huge fan of both Neil Peart and of Rush. But no rock and roll drummer can stand up to John Bonham. Not even Neil. I mean look at it this way: John Bonham has been gone nearly 30 years, yet he is still regarded as one of the greatest drummers to ever have walked the planet. To me, he is the Godfather of rock and roll drumming and I miss him dearly. Thank you for your huge gift, John Henry "Bonzo" Bonham. You are gone but will never be forgotten.....
Neil can do what Bonham can, not the other way around.
Bonham has gained more respect the last 30 years because he's dead. Neil was always better. There are plenty of drummers better than Bonham and he knew it.
Bonzo was able to express himself with his drumming, he has been called the single most influential character in rock and roll music, he had a groove that was so profound he could do a thirty minute drum solo and make it work and make it fun and entertaining for the fans. He never considered himself the best but in my opnion non can really stand up to him. I love Peart and he has got the chops to kill a man, however unlike Bohnam he has not changed anything with his drums like Bohnam.
i personally prefer peart. but that's not at all like im saying bonham isnt good. they're both fucking incredible drummers, i just like peart's style over bonham. either way, the thing that separates me from alot of other people here, is i listen to BOTH OF THESE DRUMMERS, AND I FUCKIN LOVE THEM. XD any day of the week, ask me who i like more, and ill say peart, but ask me whos better, and ill slap you. XD they're both awesome. and about the vs thing in the title, THEY BOTH WIN. CASE CLOSED. XDD
Exactly, comparing players is pointless since it's a never-ending war of opinion. Both awesome, both iconic and world-famous... it's like appreciating 2 different 20-year single-malt scotches, like them both and enjoy your preference!
You know guys I have read all your comments and I do agree that mr peart is an awsome drummer...but I'm old school ..bohnam has more of a groove thing going and for me I test it by closing my eyes and yes I could picture buddy rich , gene krupa playing while john was playing....I can't say the same about neil. I only use buddy rich and gene krupa in the test because they are my personal favorites.. But if I were pressed ..#1-Buddy Rich#2-John Bonham#3-Gene Krupa...
Bonham For Zepplen Peart For Rush this is like comparing a apple to a pine apple to see which ones bigger they were two different styles. can you picure peart playing good times bad times or bonham playing tom sawyer i mean they both could but u'kno
i think peart is much more intertaining, mostly because i've heard that solo a million times and i still am bazzled by it. just because he has more drums doesn't make him worse you guys either! but bonham did have a major influence on all rock drummers after him so for that i give him credit. but peart is just an overall better player, like his chick chick boom solo, i can't even imagine doing stuff with that going on with me feet! and he's just overall better.
guys, both drummers are equally amazing and do better than most of us could. yes neil is more technically skilled but john is far more influential in all the music that came after him
Bonham's playing for Led Zeppelin was perfect for that particular format. His style and groove was impeccable. His fills were perfect and not overplayed. However, his solos were a bit dull at times. Neil, on the other hand; solos were well constructed, and more musical, and alot more diverse. It would of been interesting if Bonham could of pulled off, drumming duties of "YYZ" or "La Villa Strangotto (misspelled) . Mmmm.
just Neil's got a thousand drums & way too many accessories in his arsenal doesn't make him the greatest rock drummer ever! notice how he doesn't even use all those damn drums when he solos! Bonham got it done much better & way cooler with a 5 piece set. more drums & faster playing does not make you a better player!
It doesn't really matter how many drums you have, it's how you use them. That probably sounded stupid but look at this video, Neil does a drum solo with a pretty normal drum set. Type in "Neil Peart (Buddy Rich Memorial Concert".
Peart sounds more like a percusionnist than a drummer. He has a zillion things around him that he has to hit to justify their presence. Joking aside, they are(was) both great drummers.... but I prefer Bonham.
But everybody needs to stop fucking comparing these guys, they have much different styles of drumming. Peart plays very musically and innovatavely and Bonham plays powerful and hard.
The thing is, Peart has had HUGE influence from Bonham and he puts the odd time signatures and offbeats into all of his songs when Bonham only really did that with his solos.
Theres no question that Peart is the more talented one, but drumming isnt all about skill
Bohnam could take Niel on a short kit so I think that sums it up since Bonzo never needed a zillion toms to do what he could do. I remember reading a long time ago that Neil said Bohnam was his influence....
deff bonham pert is good but he can just hits the drums fast bonham has amazing triplites plus he can do any thing pert can do on a fration of the drum set give bonham perts set and lets see haw much of a fool hill make pert look like
ill say this neils a god because he has the best and most complicated drum set in the world and he knows how to use it at its fullest but bonhams has something he was born with.natural talent vs hard work
Virgil Donati frankly defies the laws of nature, but it is to some degree turning drumming into a sport or mathematical exercise; just because its hard to do, doesn't mean its especially good, You wouldn't after all pay to watch a physicist knock out equations would you? There are unknown classical composers alive today writing much more progressive and complex peices than John Lennon ever composed but I know given a choice between them and the Beatles I'd always go with the scousers. You cunt
John Bonham feels the groove, Neil Peart, while good, just doesn't have the same feel as John does.
John has a bare bones kit compared to Neil Peart, John can also surpass Neil Peart in drum solo's, he can keep going towards the 30 minute mark and beyond.
Dude, the 30 is a lot of wasted time. Cant you see he taking breathers. Buddy Rich the greatest of all time didnt do 30 minute solos! Because he and all the other great drummer that followed him solo in a way were they kick ass from start to finish, not like this schlock!
Listen to the two clips. Bonham has far more feel and groove than Peart. Peart just makes alot of noise.....Bonham's drumming actaully makes you feel something.........
While Peart has a much larger kit and and plays with a progressive band, I think Bonham is better because he was able to express feelings through drums, and that's hard to do.
If you listen to Bonham's playing in any Led Zeppelin song ever recorded, even if the riffs are insanely easy, he puts so much expression into the song. Neil Peart is extremely talented. I think Bonham was better.
their both great.. but buddy rich 1970 and 1978 are off this planet. truly amazing solos by buddy on half the size kits if not a third, check out 1970 for the fastest single roll on the planet. period.
Bonhams kit was actually smaller than Buddy Richs' in that he lacked the splash cymbal. Technically, no-one, Bonham included could hold a card to Buddy Rich. For a mark on history however, his influence on the next generation and his place in the cultural landscape, John Henry Bonham stands alone...
i liked Neils better but i dont know whos better i dont know shit about drummin or any instrument for that matter but rush and zeppelin both kick ass i saw enjoy them both or just one or the other and quit bitchin at people for having opinions because opinions are like assholes everyones got one
first neil took lessons as a kid like most. He now occassionally studies with other drummers as all drummers in industry do (he's not a graduate of music). second Bonham started nothing (he's not a founder of drums). Third, those who are old enough, ever see crown air drum to any Zep songs in concert? Nearly 3/4 of audience air drum to Rush at concerts. Even non players know who has better licks so why shouldn't drummers. Oh, i know why, it's preference in their music. NEIL DOMINATES.
No one other than Rush fans would even recognise Neil Peart on a wanted poster. Who samples Neil Peart? No-one, his drums sound the same as everyone elses, toneless, flat, bland. Neil took lessons? So what? Is that why he sounds like everyone else. Without Bonham, Baker and Moon, who brought drums to the masses (Krupa/Rich also), Peart works as an automechanic and the only drumsticks he ever handles are out of a KFC box. Bonham was more original, faster, more identifiable and much more original.
Quick google search shows 474,000 pages for Peart and 888,000 for Bonham and hes' been dead for almost 30 years. Only drummers and Rush fans follow Peart, where-as someone once wrote, only half-joking that John Bonham is the most influential musician in the history of rock music. That anyone would compare any other rock and roll drummer with Bonham and his acheivements is frankly laughable. Its not that Peart isn't eminantly capable its just that in the grand scheme of things, no one cares...
His drummings been dead even longer. Don't hate cause technically Peart whipped his ass when he was alive. Listen to the live stuff and recordings. Could Bonham please play 15 more minutes of boring single strokes on snare drum in intro. Dam I fell a sleep. Was there more maybe I missed the boring ass triplets that everyone on youtube copies.
Really? Did you think that through or did you just have a brain fart you fucking bedwetter? Take rhythm magazine, modern drummer, drum magazine, ANY of them and all their polls, be they by pro-drummers or by the public and every single time its either Bonham or Buddy Rich as the most important/influential drummer of all time. Neil Peart is a way off down the list, as so he should be; shit hat, shit drum-kit, shit sound, shit band, shit head, shit wanker fans like yourself. Get fucked you cunt...
OK loud mouth. Peart just won all around drummer for 2008 in Drum mag. against greater drummers than Bonham. Since your a loud mouth rude asshole I now challenge you to a drum contest. Show me what you know & learned. I already have drum vids on youtube to challenge abilties or are you like a poodle in the back yard just barking and no bite. Apparently you know a lot about Poles so bite my Pole and take the challenge. I think your scared to show me what you've learned from John Bonham. JACKASS!
Jackass? Fuck off you redneck cunt, he won because Bonham is dead and I think you'll find that thats no all time list you shit-eating fairy. So you've posted some drum licks on youtube,?Your mum has posted some stuff on pornotube which you should take a look at, it involves a cup a japanese girl and a whole lot of shit. Let me know your drum stuff so I can take a look at it, but how by the way, you simpleton am I to know its you, I could just as well claim to be Tony Royster Jr, so fuck off cunt
You corrected me Jackass!! You dumb redneck I spelled it Pole cause I'm referring that your a Pole Sniffer. I see, afraid to take the challenge. I've got drum licks but your afraid. Only licks you have are lickin my balls while I kick your ass on drums. POLE SNIFFERS afraid. Delete your ebay name and sit in the corner curled up sucking your thumb. POLL SNIFFER...is that better POLE BOY?
'Apparantly you know a lot about Poles, so bite my pole and take the challenge' Well look which thick cunt can't admit his own mistakes! Fucko, I'm better than you at just about anything you would care to mention but then after all my retarded compadre, WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH THIS DEBATE YOU THUNDERCUNT YOU? You cant spell, your taste in music is shit and I'm sure once I get a look at your drum clips we will see you embarassed yourself on that as well you fucking toilet smell...
Just watched your premier drum video, not bad, but you really shouldn't be offering ANYONE out on youtube you fuckin' infant. RLRLFF, well THAT was lifted from John Bonham and that is about 75% of your 2nd rate solo. The click track? You dick! Have you no sense of timing? Why not just set a Roland TD6 to do it for you? The machine would have more feel you Bell-end. I thought you would at least be technically impressive, but you lack feel AND technique; I bet you spent a fortune on lessons too!
I have to stop this, it can't go on any longer! I'm only taking the piss mate, I do like Bonham more than any other drummer but opinions are what they are. Its an emotive subject and it always makes me laugh when people take the bait. Good luck with the drumming, the cobra is out...
For arguments sake lets say you are better than me (you're not on the strength of that video) does that make Peart better than Bonham? Nope! Its irrelevant you fuckin' austistic, so why keep beating the drum so to speak? Why the fuck would I post a picture of myself playing my drums in my bedroom on youtube you sad, bearded minge? How old are you you fuckin' norman? I seriously doubt that you've made any livng playing the drums and if you have its due to you being in a decent band, not on talent
1 of the main reasons why bohnam is known as better is only because he made the drum parts and started it all but in the end neil is better bonham is good but not as good
its not called showing off haing a big kit expands what you can making the sounds, music and the drummer more creative and more known as a drummer bonham chose to have a small kit
they're too different to compare in theory.
but Peart's for nerds and chin strokers. Bonham was hard ass rock n' roll, and i'll take that anyday.

Who is better?.........Wow! that´s a BIG QUESTION right?? I am not a drum expert, but the size of Bonzo´s kit is near the half of Neil´s Kit...and the technology in sound, pedals, (in the time of Bonzo, there weren´t hydraulic pedals) But my answer to that question...Maybe you can´t compare them cause they are totally different drummers

i admit that bonzo's drumming style has a very spiritual quality. i think that a lot of it had to do with the context in which he played because led zeppelin's music had a very spiritual quality to it. and the ocean is mainly in 4/4 time signature, but in the chorus it starts 4/4 and then alternates between 7/8. amazing stuff indeed. however, i will give neil peart credit that because he is in a progressive band he does also make notable use of compound time signatures.

JOHN BONHAM
Riocoolnes 2 years ago 2
that play on those songs? it's like comparing alex lifeson with david gilmour. alex can play faster and impress me with solos such as "la villa strangiato." and gilmour's solos give me chills more often because it's all soul. "comfortably numb" is a great example. alex couldn't play like david, and vice versa. so why compare peart and bonham? if you're a zepplin fan, that's great, and we understand who you like more. same for rush fans. why not accept that both are fantastic in their own ways?
CallUsWhatYouWant 2 years ago
his face. otherwise he wouldn't still play. and also, after being so successful he still went back and learned new styles. he's always trying to improve despite being great (and ALOT of drummers say neil influenced them, so its not like he's overrated). and bonham grooves better, i'm a rush fan and i'll admit that. but that's his style. two completely different drummers here. two completely different bands. for example, "Xanadu" and "Kashmir" sound nothing alike. why compare the two drummers
CallUsWhatYouWant 2 years ago
the entire concept of comparing these two drummers is ridiculous. it's obvious that the Rush fans will say Peart and the Zepplin fans will say Bonham. And some will just choose a side. It doesn't make one better than the other! For those that say Neil looks bored while playing and has no feeling, how do you know? Feeling can't be defined by only facial expressions. It's internal. I'm sure he puts all his emotion into every millisecond he plays, his hands and feet and heart show his feeling, not
CallUsWhatYouWant 2 years ago
love 'em both, but it goes to Neil imo.
Makonu2 2 years ago
john bonham was in a different league then that neil guy. peart is on a high school level since everyone and their mother can play like him note for note... bonham on the other hand was the man of independence, hopping his left foot at a constant as the right rabbit foot played counter melodies with hands, sticks or no sticks. John Bonham is the anatomy of a drum set and solo Peart is just tries. bonham grabs the bull by the horns!

John Bonham is frightening. A mere human should not be able to play like that...
bonezor 2 years ago
This Neil guy is all technique and no soul. Bonham could make the drums sing & cry, w/o electronics. Not even worthy of comparison.
6066yg 2 years ago
B.S.!!! Neil played for almost 20 years without electronics and ran circles around everyone. It became elctronic because it was the 80's and the times/change. Try listening to the the Exit Stage left solo( a FULL solo, not like this half/cut off for video one)...then try and comment
negtype13 2 years ago
Anything Neil was in before Rush is not likely to be what the majority of people can base their opinions on. An opinion cannot be give on Neil's 20 years of electronic playing if we never heard it (though I am sure it was amazing). Neil and John are two very different drummers but both are simply phenomenal.

Apparrantly so if we're judgeing off that.
oak3drum 2 years ago
Rush has far more gold and platinum records then Led Zepp even though I find Led Zepp is more radio friendly too but in Europe they are EXTREMELY popular.
Rushworshiper92 2 years ago
I challenge anyone that thinks Bonhman was better feel player or drum guru to search Rush Xanadu on youtube. Take any song off Rush Hold Your Fire album. Neil's drum placements, feel, style, odd time playing surpasses easily. Rush came out in early 70's and put it to everyone and still do pushing 60. Let's not forget he wrote all lyrics and is on numerous instrumentals he helped create with killer drum breaks. Bonham has moby dick and end of Rock n Roll to his credit for drum breaks.

Rushworshiper92 2 years ago
Well we all have to admit, these guys are the top 2 drummers of all time and it's very difficult to tell which ones better. But for this video i think Bonzo gets a bit of an edge.

Rush, overrated? Youre an idiot. If anything, they're underrated. Zep is great too. Best drummer: Larry Mullen Jr. haha jk. Really though, Gavin Harrison.
sonoflife74 2 years ago
Ofcourse you can't put two different genre's of drummers and compare them, ofcourse it's gonna cause controversy. I actually preffer Ian Paice wayyyy over Bonham, as I do Deep Purple to Led Zeppelin. You could compare maybe Mike Portnoy to Neil Pert, two different genres of prog. I think that would be a good battle i'm still not sure who would win I think Portnoy is perhaps the best but, that's just my opinion.

Rushworshiper92 2 years ago
yes and I am entitled to it...but again...Neil is pretty good..but gets dull as frozen shit in about 2 mins....I can listen to Bonham all day long....
catphish454 2 years ago
All I am saying is Bonham's playing affects my emotions. That's what artists do. pierce your heart with joyous type of agony through their craft. Also visual aspects, as you call them, have nothing to do with it. Let me put it this; years ago every student drummer wanted to play like Mr. Peart.. And the man is a great drummer! No argument there. But, through practice and dedication they were able to copy his style. But to this day no one has been able to copy bonzo in any way.
ryouseph 2 years ago
How do you know that nobody can copy Bonzo's style? have you heard every drummer in the world? No you haven't. For all you know he's living next door to you rocking out right now.
Rushworshiper92 2 years ago
1st if you knew ANYTHING about music you'd know ANYBODY can copy/NOBODY can inherit anyone's style. Did Satch or Vai take over for Van Halen!?!
Did Burton or Claypool take Bruce or Lee!?There was a time when everyone wanted to sound like those that they proceeded! It's called influence;but the great ones find their own and make something of it. NO ONE can say they have done as much for modern rock drumming as Peart.Flat out.And I've heard PLENTY copy Bonham (hit any Zep tributes in this world)
negtype13 2 years ago
Not trying to undermine your argument, and i prefer Bonzo, but look up bonzonichy on Youtube search he is the best Bonzo impersonator by far.
drummerboy0987 2 years ago
these 2 gentlemen are the best of the best percussionists whom ever lived. mr. bonham trance like factual expressions & body language during solos was so cool. he could do more with less than anyone & mr. peart working his incredible magic on his very complex system. thy both are a real joy 2 watch. you 2 have been most amazing & thank you 4 the awesome performances.
nightstick99 2 years ago
peart does very little in the way of projecting emotion through his playing. that's becuase he is a technician not an artist. Bonzo on the other hand gives me goose bumps. A true artist has passion fire and most of all launches emotion into your heart. He makes you feel not just hear. One Earth One Bonzo. We get only one of each. Best Drummer ever lived.
ryouseph 2 years ago
u actually believe niel is "technician not an artist." lol visual aspects of a person paformance is not what qualifies a music artists. its the audio aspects, precision & creativity. that really matters my friend. neil has also singly hand written & composed nearly every album track rush has ever released.

I wanted to add to my last post, I was fortunate enough to see Zep in NY in the 70's I am not taken anything away from Bohham. He was awesome with his style. What upsets me is that these people who had it made can't take responsibility with their lives. It was a shame.
SYLMAR1890 2 years ago
the difference between the two drummers in my opinion is that one was smarter in how to take care of himself as a human and as a musician. Thats why he is still around kicking all other drummers to the curb.
SYLMAR1890 2 years ago
this is pretty funny..

MrRush1974 2 years ago
if you did any research you would know that peart didnt always have a huge kit. he sounds good either way. and neils testicle hairs play better drums than bonham. everyone that dies young gets more respect despite the fact that they might not even be that good

Bonham being dead has nothing to do with the respect shown him...sorry..missed on that one bud...and I am pretty sure Neil shaves his bag...

okay, John Bonham is wayyy better than Neil Pert.

You are gone but will never be forgotten.....
lsdrums 2 years ago 4
Sorry, Neil rules, Bonzo not even close.
Neil can do what Bonham can, not the other way around.
Bonham has gained more respect the last 30 years because he's dead. Neil was always better. There are plenty of drummers better than Bonham and he knew it.

I disagree
scoobes11 2 years ago
Bonzo was able to express himself with his drumming, he has been called the single most influential character in rock and roll music, he had a groove that was so profound he could do a thirty minute drum solo and make it work and make it fun and entertaining for the fans. He never considered himself the best but in my opnion non can really stand up to him. I love Peart and he has got the chops to kill a man, however unlike Bohnam he has not changed anything with his drums like Bohnam.

i think peart is much more intertaining, mostly because i've heard that solo a million times and i still am bazzled by it. just because he has more drums doesn't make him worse you guys either! but bonham did have a major influence on all rock drummers after him so for that i give him credit. but peart is just an overall better player, like his chick chick boom solo, i can't even imagine doing stuff with that going on with me feet! and he's just overall better.

I think my channel name sums up my opinion.
Theres no question that Peart is the more talented one, but drumming isnt all about skill

first neil took lessons as a kid like most. NEIL DOMINATES.
oak3drum 2 years ago
No one other than Rush fans would even recognise Neil Peart on a wanted poster. Who samples Neil Peart? No-one, his drums sound the same as everyone elses, toneless, flat, bland. Neil took lessons? So what? Is that why he sounds like everyone else. Without Bonham, Baker and Moon, who brought drums to the masses (Krupa/Rich also), Peart works as an automechanic and the only drumsticks he ever handles are out of a KFC box. Bonham was more original, faster, more identifiable and much more original.
motorcitycobra2009 2 years ago 4
i'd have to disagree neil peart stands out over all of them..anyone who knows bonham knows neil peart and vice versa
joshpcnerd 2 years ago
Quick google search shows 474,000 pages for Peart and 888,000 for Bonham and hes' been dead for almost 30 years. Only drummers and Rush fans follow Peart, where-as someone once wrote, only half-joking that John Bonham is the most influential musician in the history of rock music. That anyone would compare any other rock and roll drummer with Bonham and his acheivements is frankly laughable. Its not that Peart isn't eminantly capable its just that in the grand scheme of things, no one cares...
motorcitycobra2009 2 years ago 4
His drummings been dead even longer. Don't hate cause technically Peart whipped his ass when he was alive. Listen to the live stuff and recordings.

Oh yeah, dont you mean 'poll' as opposed to 'pole'? Now you've been corrected why don't you suck my cock you fuckin' turd burglar..
motorcitycobra2009 2 years ago

Good luck with the drumming, the cobra is out...
motorcitycobra2009 2 years ago

Bonham by a long shot. Pearts good but no one will ever be better than BONHAM PS: Pearts kind of a show off with his big kit Bonham had a simple kit
12LOCOCOCLOCO 2 years ago
its not called showing off haing a big kit expands what you can making the sounds, music and the drummer more creative and more known as a drummer bonham chose to have a small kit
