The RAF Bomber Command Memorial will finally pay a public debt of gratitude to the 55,573 aircrew who lost their lives in World War II defending us against the oppression of the Nazis. All volunteers, they took to the skies knowing the odds they faced, but did so anyway. To raise much needed funds for this memorial the RAF Bomber Command Time Capsule allows you to leave your personal tribute to those who gave everything for us: bombercommand,com/timecapsule
Not all of the footage was taken by Patterson. One of the 88 Sqn Bostons carried a camera, and I think took the footage of strafing the buildings on the run in.
@Aussiephil99 Sqd Ldr L.H. Trent won a vc, he was shot down and made a prisoner of war, i think 10 out of 11 487 squadron venturas were shot down that day. Not long after this they upgraded to the mosquito and used them in operation jericho with the raf and the raaf. Though we did use the ventrua in the pacific also right through to the end of the war.
The mosquito is a beauty, but this raid marked the ending of the Ventura's career as a medium bomber in the RAF - nine of the 47 Venturas were downed during the raid
@saxamaphone it's your favourite plane and you never knew it didn't have rear guns? do you not have any books or even bothered to look online to check the specs?
Have flown several WWII types. Mosquito is the ultimate on my wish list.
The idea of taking a Boston or Ventura into combat over occupied Europe would take more guts than I think I could have mustered.
