Interesting subject. However, the ASV uses the terms "this world" and "that world." "Age" therefore is confusing. I wonder, what does the original Greek papyrus read?
Reincarnation may be entertaining but it is not a Bible subject worthy of attention in my view. We have the covenant body of eschatological fulfillment now. The passages you are quoting are Old Covenant texts and unless you are an advocate of the continued temple cultus, they are fulfilled and not future prophecies. We cannot die because we are sons of the resurrection and that is longer than a thousand years!
You need to define resurrection. Resurrection is who you REALLY are -
a Spirit Being of light. You are not "human". This body is of the earth and will return there. Now, the question is how long will you NOT have a body?
Christ says there will be a "regeneration" of the heavens and the earth. And that he will rule here 1000 years. Isaiah 65:21 says we will have the life span of a tree during this time (if we are chosen; He scores), so we will have a flesh body again here on this earth.
@themanningsjdsjjj "resurrection" is from the Greek word "anastasis" a compound of ana (up or again) and "histemi" (to stand). It' means to stand again. The object or subject must be determined by context. We cannot assume that the appearance of the word resurrection means physical body or spiritual body or even a body at all. That information is supplied by context which is why those not familiar often misinterpret.
I don't believe anyone speaking the Greek language was around when God laid the foundation of the earth and formed man from the dust of the ground. Clearly, we are, in our true form, a Spirit Being, made in the image of God. Christ stated without dispute that at death we are like the Angels in heaven and without a sex. I will take His word for it.
@themanningsjdsjjj Your point would be valid only if you accept that the resurrection has in fact occurred. If you yet believe resurrection is future, then it cannot be the case that the deceased are like the angels because the text offers the "conditional statement" [those who are counted worthy to attain that age AND, the resurrection of the dead... Therefore, if they have not attained to the age/resurrection,--the first condition, then they do not qualify for the latter.
How beautiful is the truth!! How confused can futurists be! Resurrection is already fulfilled! If the nature of death was spiritual death, so the resurrection was also spiritual!
The Bible does not say Jesus went thru walls after He was raised. But even if He did we must remember that He walked on water before He was raised. He was resurrected in the exact same body that went into the grave. Our resurrection is spiritual not physical.
"I AM THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE!" BOOM! Well done.
An objection I might anticipate is that while the question was regarding Levirate marriage, that doesn't necessarily mean Jesus' answer is limited to such. If those in the resurrection "neither marry nor are given in marriage," generally speaking, that could include but not be limited to Levirate marriage. A general truth can be used to answer a specific question. Thoughts?
@ShallNotPass70 I was thinking this too. Could it not be, that there is a spiritual ressurection as well as a 'bodily' one. Jesus was the first fruit of the 'dead' and had a resurrection 'body' that could go through walls etc. Is it the case then, that when we die physically, we are 'raised' into the spirit realm to be with Jesus? I'm still confused about this. I thought we had a 'kind' of rebirth now, a spiritual resurrection if you like, but we'll also have a bodily one at a later date?
@ShallNotPass70 I would have to agree especially since the language says, "but those who are counted worthy to attain that age." That certainly cannot be limited to just a few but to all who attain to it. I've been meaning to respond to this a while back as at least a half dozen raised the issue. That is one of the great blessings of sharing our concepts on scripture openly. The dialogue makes us all the better for it. Keep up the great work.
William, great u have done a good job. I am student in Tyndale and I have come to know most of the time the preacher give their own opinion than to clearly explain the text. So they either forget the level of the audience. You have taken a passage and then in given time you have not gone here and there but given the real true picture of Biblical preaching ..... Shehzad Sam
William, great little study on this passage. Too many times people, in trying to explain passages in the NT, completely divorce the passage from any Biblical context and twist the meaning to serve their own purposes. We must always remember that Christ came to the lost sheep of Israel and the Gospel was to the Jew first. This was in fullfillment of God's promises to his chosen people, Israel. It was necessary for the promises to be fulfilled in order for salvation to come to all men.
William, this was great. I'm teaching a friend fulfilled covenant and the way you did this will be so helpful to her. It's very understandable the way you put it, thank you so much.
I appreciate your messages, and follow TGAAB ad70 audio. But I do not see Spiritual death...ie:Jhn 10:28 "I GIVE them eternal Life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand." Jesus must GIVE the “Spiritual” life after physical life has ended. The tree of Life became unobtainable (Gen 3:24) so Christ must give “Spiritual” Life (1Cr 15:45), this perishable body must put on the imperishable (1Cr 15:53) allowing access back to the tree of Life ((Rev 22:14). ty, Peace
I am still studying eschotology, but I am leaning heavily toward preterism. My son in law is leaning toward Amillianialism, and I believe this issue of a bodily resurrection is the sticking point for him, although he is still undecided. I am also discussing preterism with my pastors dad, who is also starting to lean toward the perterist view. My pastor is apparently undecided at this point. I am working on him. As you can see, this study is going to be very helpful in this matter. Thanks.
William, I'm a preterist and I was recently challenged with this very question by a futurist during a discussion about preterism. Your answer is right on target and I plan to present it to him shortly. The key is simply understanding which age we are in presently. Great job, I can't wait for next video!
