@dirtslug Gene Wilder did a good job on this. They are using this song, with Gene's voice in a commercial of late on TV. I do like Johnny's intrepretation on this song. Thanks for dropping by.
The first time I heard this song, it was the Michael Feinstein version, and I thought to myself, Johnny Mathis would do a great job on this song, and as it turns out I was right. I just hope they do a studio recording of this song for inclusion on one of his new releases.
Mystic47 Hi, yes Johnny does a great job on is song. I've long believed that the basis of every action is a thought.
I like the way the actress Debra Winger's character puts it to Richard Gere's character in that old movie "An Officer And A Gentlemen." He's saying he hopes he can "get jets." She says, "You saw it, and it happened." I like to think it's a person making their dreams come true, I think it starts with a thought or as the song says "Pure Imagination." Thanks for your post Mystic.
When I heard this song, on the PBS Special of the 50th Anniversary Concert, I had to ask my husband, where I had heard it before. He told me, "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." I couldn't even remember it from the movie. Once you hear Johnny Mathis sing it, you'll never forget where, or who sang it! It is wonderful having the DVD to play over and over, again, of the concert!
svnnhshirl, great post here. To me hearing Johnny sing a song, any song I don't want to hear it by any other singer.
Johnny could have been an Olympic athlete, instead he took his God given talent and became one of the best singers and entertainers around. Long live Johnny Mathis.

maguirs, my only complaint about this song is it's too short. I think Johnny does a great job on it.
