just wondering how you manage to keep the railway waterproof. Are the locos just standard or have they been modified. And lastly how do you get the track powered. Thanks for any info provided.
@traindude92 Hiya mate. Sorry for late reply; never really look at the comments bit! lol. Bad really. Anywho, the railway basically isn't waterproof. The track is silver coated (like all new HORNBY stuff) so is fine. The points are a bit iffy tho. Just had 2 replace four of them. They are now covered with freezer bags with a rock on top when not in use. Keeps them dry and free from heavy dirt, as well as wildlife. That way we can keep the amount of damage to the contacts to a minimum
@traindude92 In answer to your second question, the railway's loco are not modified in any way. The loco you see in this video is a standard 45xx 2-6-2 by Bachmann. Newer locos always run better on dirtier track than older ones; the contact is generally better. Thats why 4560 did so well in the above video. One of my older engines wouldn't have even thought about running on snowbound rails!! lol. haha. Generally, the locos are pretty weather proof as long as the motors are covered.
@traindude92 We always dry our locos out as well. Like, after the above was filmed, 4560 had a bit of snow in her wheel spokes and in her underframe. Though the motor is pretty well protected, damp is never good. SO, best thing to do is just give them a wipe and make sure they don't go into storage too wet. Apart from that; anything goes. I've never had any trouble with rain, wind, snow or even thunder storms!
@traindude92 We've even had instances where thunder and lightning has been roaring outside, completely out of nowhere. Therefore, whilst we drank tea in the warm, cosy, dry train shed, one of the loco's, or even two, would go down the line and collect any rolling stock that was stranded out there. I remember once the blue king got stranded on a bank in heavy rain with an express so 5775 had to go down and collect it, dragging it back up the bank in style :). Hope that helps...cheers mate.
the snow on my railway covered the two large bridges and froze the track solid, so no running for me, mind you a few days later and i was out there all the time as i just bought a new A4 with sound & lights fitted, fantastic!!
i got the new teak coaches not railroad but thee very good and on 1 i made a modification i swaped the boggie with the pull man 1 witch lights up so now the teak lights up lol
The teaks are actually neither! They are products of the mid-1990s, and were brought brand new. Therefore, they are now knocking 13-15 years old. But, I bet their molds are the same ones which Railroad use today! They are reliable, useful and stick to the rails very well. Thanks for commenting.
@porter6669196327 I bet it is considering its ground level! Ours was about 3 inches deep in it before these shots were filmed. As soon as I stopped, the track was buried again within 2-3 minutes! Couldn't even tell that any trains had ran! Thanks for commenting mate, glad you're still watching! =) Have you seen our train ride vid too? Thats something a little different!
@howarth004 Thank you! =) It was very, very cold. In fact, I had to have the heater on in the shed which, during any other temperatures, I wouldn't even dream of. (Sends the electricity bill sky high you see!!). =). I had about half an hour outside in the cold in the end, couldn't stand it anymore. Much better to sit in the warm with a hot cuppa' and watch the train go round! Thanks for the comment.

@Jamesta360 Too right, that particular engine, 4560, goes much better in reverse as the front pony truck is a bit of a hopper!
