I agree. A couple of these drummers are very good. But you would never know it b/c they are all playing at the same time. A lot of music producers in NYC won't hire young Black drummers b/c they feel that we are undisciplined and can't keep a steady beat. Remember, most music is based on a simple 4/4 time signature. Not crazy bashing solos.
yeah but this is the place where all these drummers who are used to JUST keeping steady beats in church get to take a crazy bashing solo. everything is in context. the point of a shed is to show off... its a friendly competition...
and half these drummers are the major cats out there doing it big... aaron spears is the american idol dude, gerald heyward with destinys child and whatnot.. so i agree that mainstream music is all about discipline.. but even these guys like to have fun sometimes

My point was that you can't tell if these guys can really play - b/c they are playing at the same time. In the real world, that's a "no-no". I've been in session with big time names in the game, and they didn't play over one another - and the listener enjoyed each person's solo. Contrary to what you have here.

its funny how we as black drummers do not expand our horizon or minds to bigger and better things in music. If u look and listen they almost play the same solos in a way. Watch drummers like Dave Weckl to become an all music drummer (not just Gospel and R&B.
I will have to agree with carl545,,I would also like to throw a name in the hat as a black drummer, that if he was INVITED to come, I believe the WHOLE game would have been changed and he goes by the name of CHRIS "DADDY" DAVE! Nough said, TRUST!
